exactly, that's the point. We don't have to do those things because Jesus dying on the cross made stoning people and not eating shellfish obsolete. He didn't fulfill them, he fulfilled the need to do them, therefore, I don't need to kill a baby sheep every time I curse, I just pray and mean it. |

@Junior: Let's try this one more time: So when Exodus 20:13 says "You shall not murder" I can safely ignore that rule as it only applies to old Israeli tribesmen? |

so we don't have to do them? great! sorry guys, I gotta go seduce a virgin :D:D:D:D - i've been holding off doing it until we'd sorted it out... Luemas, you're not going to convince me that you can stop someone sinning by killing them. Isn't there a '... cast the first stone' issue related to that? |

I'm not talking New Testament here. I'm talking Torah. Put on your skull caps and grow out your beard, because that's how I roll. Besides, that wasn't my point. The whole point of the Law was to point out to the people what was sin, and to explain to them, how sin brings Death. Now Jesus, as Junior said, DIED on the cross to fulfill the law and it's purpose. Not rendering it null, because it was there to identify sin. And once they identified their sin, they would come before God with repentance. |

@Luemas: As we say in Norway: Nice rowing there, but the shore is in the other direction ![]() Are you saying that we should follow all the laws of the old testament, or that Jesus fulfilled the laws and rendered them obsolete? Or perhaps the Bible is teaching us relative morals that change over time? |

No, what I'm saying is that the message of the laws was to stop sin. And when Jesus died, he died to stop all sin. But that doesn't mean we can't sin, it just means that if we sin it goes on his shoulders. And we don't want to sin because if we truly love God we'll keep his commandments, which are to not sin. Yeah. |

@concolor, the ten commandments plus the other two in the new testament are the only ones you have to follow. Exodus is, if I have read the bible verses correctly all those times, where the ten commandments are listed. |

not i didnt if you dont understand the meaning of something you can just ask like you always do when you dont want to answer something-Jesus coming did not abolish the law he came so that the law AND THE PROPHETS would endure forever-my previous post was saying that. None of the Law of Moses did fail- Christ fulfilled it 100% then he nailed it to the cross Col 2 14-16 Now if you truely want to understand how the law is meant to be you cant study this unless you study what Jesus says and the plan of redeemption. |

@Juniour: Why don't we have to follow the rest? @ARAZEC: To quote my previous post:

see, I think you'll be suprised to hear that I like that notion: Don't sin, but if you do, don't worry about it in any sort of Cosmic sense. but about the ten commandments: I think there are a lot of rules you ought to obey which aren't in the Ten: like ones about rape, torture, slavery, traffiking. |

not quite little one.... its called living under Grace not law. Jesus fulfilled the purpose of God's laws. He did not destroy the fact that people should obey God, even though his crucifixion brought a change in some of the details of how they obey God. |

@conradw, you're once again leaving out the new testament to fit your purposes. There are 12 commandments. the ten plus love thy neighbor and put god first. if you loved thy neighbor and put god first you wouldn't rape or torture, or take slaves, or any of that. |

If you loved your neighbour, you wouldn't steal, murder, covet, bear false witness. You don't need the original Ten. You only need Jesus's two (although, I insist that the two are one - but that's a side issue). So we don't need any of the old testament laws... not even the ten commandments. only Jesus's teaching and some common sense |

@conradw: You heretic you. Common sense isn't in the Bible! ![]() And if you need to invoke all this external common sense on these teachings, what keeps you from combining your common sense with something else. Like love? then you don't have to read all those scriptures, you just listen to your heart and apply common sense (and in my opinion rationality) to that. |
