I've heard a lot recently about the ideals of communism, and the whole "everyone being equal" idea. Put your ideas out here, if you want. Just so you guys know, I'm vehemently opposed to communism, to the point of fascism (but not really), so have at it if you're for the lefties. I mean, it'd be your perfect world, right? |

The problem with communism, in my opinion, is the same as with all other political ideologies. The plan is usually: Step 1: Get underpants (or, you know, install a communistic regime) Step 2: ? Step 3: Profit! (fabulous society where all are equal and you give what you can and get what you need) I think Joukai hit the nail on the head by pointing out that all these ideologies only work in theory, not in practice because they deny our human nature. |

Ah, allow me to play the devil's advocate (and probably completely misunderstand your question): If I understand correctly the idea would be to have specially skilled people, and that these people would be motivated to obtain and use that skill not through the possibility of economic gain, but the possibility to help others and use their talents. |

Actually, I figure I might as well give out my main argument: Because there is no competition in communism (competition exists only in capitalist societies, where companies struggle against each other), there is absolutely zero quality control. Also, as all people are given near the same amount money, people feel no need to spend so much time studying to become a specialist, such as a surgeon. Therefore, communism leads to a lack of highly trained individuals. |

Socialism is a great thing. It would be wonderful if we all worked for the common good without concern for personal gain. However, humans are evil conniving jerks. Capitalism tends to funnel our natural greedy impulses into serving others. This doesn't always turn out for the best, but it creates a workable system. It's an imperfect idea that works in an imperfect world. |

Socialism is great. Free healthcare for one thing. I loves my free healthcare. It means I can climb as many trees as I like. I heard america had like 50 million people without healthcare. That's comparable to the population of the UK. You know what? all of them have healthcare! They also live longer :), and the more socialist Scandinavians even make more money than you do. A public education system is another good thing about it.  communism is a big fat lame cow, and capitalism is greedy and uncaring. Middle road = best of both worlds

And notice how much Canada and England love their social health care? And the Australians. Oh wait that's right. I'm pretty sure this has been spoken on before. But socialism is good in idea, if it weren't for human nature messing everything up and the lust for power we have. |
