I find it funny, how of all the people you could've mentioned, you mentioned shakespeare. A notable author.
An author is like an artist.
WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU EQUATED GOD TO.
Nuff Caps Lue.
Basically.. by equating you determined God deserves praise.

did I ever equate god to an artist?

That doesn't sound like something I would do...

@Conc its written like that for our benefit
Now THAT was an interesting statement, ARAZEC.

I think that if you are able to explain to me your reasoning behind that statement (which may take days) I would get a much clearer understanding of how you think. Which would be great, at least for me :)

No, but you equated God deserving respect for making a painting.
Which is equating god to an artist, which is like a writer.
There is a method to my madness, you just need to see it.

The LORD Speaks
1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said:
2 "Who is this that darkens my counsel
with words without knowledge?

3 Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.

4 "Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.

5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?

6 On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone-

7 while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels [a] shouted for joy?

8 "Who shut up the sea behind doors
when it burst forth from the womb,

9 when I made the clouds its garment
and wrapped it in thick darkness,

10 when I fixed limits for it
and set its doors and bars in place,

11 when I said, 'This far you may come and no farther;
here is where your proud waves halt'?

12 "Have you ever given orders to the morning,
or shown the dawn its place,

13 that it might take the earth by the edges
and shake the wicked out of it?

14 The earth takes shape like clay under a seal;
its features stand out like those of a garment.

15 The wicked are denied their light,
and their upraised arm is broken.

16 "Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea
or walked in the recesses of the deep?

17 Have the gates of death been shown to you?
Have you seen the gates of the shadow of death ?

18 Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth?
Tell me, if you know all this.

19 "What is the way to the abode of light?
And where does darkness reside?

20 Can you take them to their places?
Do you know the paths to their dwellings?

21 Surely you know, for you were already born!
You have lived so many years!

22 "Have you entered the storehouses of the snow
or seen the storehouses of the hail,

23 which I reserve for times of trouble,
for days of war and battle?

24 What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed,
or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?

25 Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,
and a path for the thunderstorm,

26 to water a land where no man lives,
a desert with no one in it,

27 to satisfy a desolate wasteland
and make it sprout with grass?

28 Does the rain have a father?
Who fathers the drops of dew?

29 From whose womb comes the ice?
Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens

30 when the waters become hard as stone,
when the surface of the deep is frozen?

31 "Can you bind the beautiful [c] Pleiades?
Can you loose the cords of Orion?

32 Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons [d]
or lead out the Bear [e] with its cubs?

33 Do you know the laws of the heavens?
Can you set up God's [f] dominion over the earth?

34 "Can you raise your voice to the clouds
and cover yourself with a flood of water?

35 Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?
Do they report to you, 'Here we are'?

36 Who endowed the heart [g] with wisdom
or gave understanding to the mind [h] ?

37 Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?
Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens

38 when the dust becomes hard
and the clods of earth stick together?

39 "Do you hunt the prey for the lioness
and satisfy the hunger of the lions

40 when they crouch in their dens
or lie in wait in a thicket?

41 Who provides food for the raven
when its young cry out to God
and wander about for lack of food?

I think Shakespear is worthy of praise. I think Ghandi and Che Guevara, Watson and Crick, Jenner, and Salk are worthy of praise. In fact, I believe a lot of people are worthy of praise. To say that God alone is worthy of praise makes me wonder if you actually appreciate what your fellow man has done to improve your life.

I've got better things to do with my time than spend it prostating myself towards your egocentric image of God.

I'm not so sure God deserves any praise: respect maybe, but not praise. If you were omnipotent and you made a pretty picture, would you expect praise? What if instead of a pretty picture you made malaria, how about now?
Does God actually use his power to reduce suffering in the world? Well, even if you argue he does (which you could), he doesn't reduce it as much as he could. Norman Borlaug isn't even omnipotent and he contributed to save over a billion lives by feeding the hungry. Now, are you telling me that he doesn't deserve any praise?

I don't get why thou doth mention paying tithes. Have we suddenly been transported to the middle ages

incedentally: solidrockcorps, you're pretty amazing too.
HAHAHAHAHA!!! wow you make me laugh, I do appreciate their contributions to "improving" my life. if you call that much improvement. haha i dont think there contributions made my life better but made a lot of others lives focus off away from God and into other worldly topics. My God is not Egocentric. God doesnt need to use his power to reduce the suffering that we brought upon our own stupid selves. We commited the crime and we were without protection. But because of his Mercy and Grace God performs his wonders signs and miracles, to show his power, but he wont just do it freehand we have to ask him and pray and fast. and im am not amazing. Everything i do that is good is all God. Its not me but the God who works through me, Im am nothing but a mere vessel for his great works to been shown through. I bow below my master as his good and faithful servant.

Job :spamz: ?

o.k i see ur point :$

My point is mans knowledge is but chaff in the wind.

Man is destined to die and all will face the question of their own morality.
Jesus offers you eternal life- something unattainable with human wisdom and he offers it as a free gift to us all-

conrad, is there such a thing as cold? such a thing as dark? a normal person would say yes. but dark and cold are not actual terms, they just describe the absence of light, and heat. when you go into a dark room, the room cannot get darker. when you are in the frigid reaches of space, it can't get any colder. God didn't create evil, as you would assume... he created free will. if you choose to use that free will to sin, you are not a certain level of evil, evil is evil either way. evil is the absence of god. if there is evil in this world it is ours and ours alone. tell me, conrad, do you give money to every organization you can? do you go on mission trips to give food to the little Somalian children, or to give mosquito nets to people in brazil? hopefully you do, but if you don't... you have nothing to stand by. we are here to care for the earth and most of us succeed in that, but some let it rot. personal gain. You're not like that, are you?

don't get me wrong, I love personal gain. But I also love helping people. I don't give any money, mainly because I'm broke, but I do volunteer with St John Ambulance. Sure, they aren't as high profile as feeding somalian children, but they do save lives.

@solid: God might not need to help us fix the problems you say we brought on ourselves, but if God's going to sit on his hands, I'll thank Zeus for Marshal and Warren's commitment to saving lives and relieving suffering. As for praying and fasting: I think the effectiveness of that has been found to be a little dubious. Sure some people claim miracles cures and things, but one thing is for sure: there are no more miracle cases of smallpox being cured - I think that's more of a miracle than anything else.

Back to Junior: I think you might find it odd that there is no blue either. You look at a blue object, and what your are observing are a few wavelengths of light, and if you were wired differently you would perceive as green.
But moreover: You say that if there is evil in the world it is ours and ours alone: YES! I agree! It is up to us to put right wrongs and replace hate with love, prejudice with wisdom. Its no use waiting for God to do it, or blaming it on demons or devils or goblins. When Jesus spoke about the Kingdom of Heaven, he was speaking in very earthly terms - Rome in all its spender referred to itself as the Kingdom - it is up for us to make the build a perfect world.

but god is the source of all our power. so techncally, yes he is helping. he inspired me to give up porn and convert to christianity. which brings us back to the subject of the thread in general. man, we got way off the topic as of late.

@ARAZEC: Are you mixing this thread with the Bible Reading thread? That would explain the lack of posting in that thread, and also your extensive Bible-quotes in this thread :)
ARAZEC

My point is mans knowledge is but chaff in the wind.
That may be, but I think that's the best we have.

I'd rather hold on to a thread of string than a rope that is not there. And if you tell me there is such a rope, and that I should let go of my string to grab it, I must inform you that I see no rope where you claim it to be and i do not feel it when I reach for it.

I will also have to inform you that you are not the only one to claim there is a rope, there are countless others who assure me of other ropes, ladders, escalators and stairs. I do not see these either, nor do I find any one of their claims to be either more or less believable than yours.

@junior: I think you've completely missed my point about Rome. Jesus was speaking in very earthly, political terms of the day. He was contrasting the Kingdom of heaven, which we were to establish, to the Kingdom of the present day. This guy was a revolutionary!

@Arazec: I don't have a problem with God. I have a problem with it when people treat God like an omnipotent imaginary friend. God is so much bigger daft things like porn

Lol first off God is the omnipotent one and He calls me Friend! Because you say he is bigger than porn does not mean he doesnt hate it. and yes thank you junior for bringing back the main thread, and to you conradw if your going to post something at least talk about the thread not whatever your trying to prove, its useless your not going to change anyone else's mind on here. Cause you have never experience God like we have and im sorry for that.
