i think the bible is a great reference? i mean we can all pool our ignorance or we can refer to the truth? this stuff should be talked about more in the christian community and if we get too graphic its good to help each other out with some gentle council now rack off losers and take a reality pill- the internets full of bad stuff just cause the territory is taken over by bad doesnt mean we chuck it in and say defeat-we fill it with good words ....losers.... |

I completely agree that it's quite natural to use scripture when discussing the sin of pornography (the thread has sin in the title, so I assume it's a sub-sin of lust?) Whet it comes to referring to the Bible as the truth, one would have to assume that every word of the Bible is entirely correct and factual, and in no way open to interpretation or meant as allegories or illustrations. One would also have to assume a perfect translation of every minute detail into the language and version of the current Bible you're holding in your hand. I must admit I find this to be a rather less likely alternative compared to all the other possibilities out there. |

Read it. Doesn't mention internet porn. I know this is a flippant response. So let's think about WHY it doesn't mention internet porn? Well because there was no internet back then. What did they have? postitution, slavery, and rape. So OF COURSE its going to be against any kind of extramarital sexual relation, when all of these undermine the fundamental human rights every man and woman has (this is supposed to be, after all, a Good book). Times have moved on since then, thank God, and the way people interact with each other has changed. Solidrockcorps, I don't think I really understood what you were saying: The Bible is a book. It isn't my life. Please clarify... |

Hrm. Looks like I'm agreeing wholeheartedly with my former nemesis. He's got a really good point- especially considering the passage of time: In our incredibly liberal society, seeing a woman without her top on is very common, in fact, its a woman's right to go topless where she wants (in Canada, at least). I'm pretty sure that a picture of a half naked woman would be considered pornographic in nature by the Bible, but now it's all too common. I'm not saying that it's a good thing, but the point is that opinions and values change. |

While a temporary ban may help me chill for a while, I still don't get what you're saying... The Bible is life (first it was my life, now all life). Now, I'm guessing that is a metaphor for something... |

*looking up "sustinance"*...Ah, great! Though I assume that rater than "proof" you mean "argument in favor of", I'm still eagerly awaiting your reply. (<-- That may sound sarcastic, but it's only meant to be so a little bit )

For one, just because Society changes doesn't mean it's ok. Ever listen to socially acceptable by DC Talk? Heres a link anyways: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ph7ct8-7Og But really. If God is eternal, I am, I was and I am to come. Shouldn't what he says be the same as well? That's my lazy answer. |

Actually, you're right. Just because society likes it doesn't make it okay. That decision is yours alone. If you think you can look yourself in the mirror with the decision you make, then it is okay. The old Testament is full of rules, while Jesus gave only two (although, I argue that the two are truly one): Love God and Love your neighbour. That treats you as the adult. You don't need to be told not to kill some one else's animal, or their relative, or their friend, or their spouse, etc. ad nausium. You have do make the decision for yourself about what is the moral decision. If you get it wrong: learn from it. If you get it right: learn from it. If you think looking at internet porn makes you a bad person, then for heaven's sake don't do it. I don't think it makes you a bad person, nor does it lead you to do bad things. So if you think some porn is what you're after, enjoy it! (As a friend of mine once said: if God wanted us to be celibate, he wouldn't have given us privates - The joke worked slightly differently because he was in the army but I think it still stands) |
