Health: 600/600 Posts: 1,574 Group: Admin Member #8 Joined: 6 January 2008	Rose is an idea for a turn-based RPG. The little of it I shared with my amateur programmer friend he didn't like. Main Theme: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/228844 Blake: Eyes: Cobalt Hair: Cobalt Weapon: Blue Sword. Damage: 5 (+2/lvl) Health: 50 (+10/lvl) Blake is asleep in his bed. A single blue rose sits in a vase on his nightstand. Screen fades to white. Black text fades onto the screen: "Roses are not always red..." Music starts: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/201982 Blake: Where am I? What is this place? It's so bright... Battle starts. Same music plays throughout battle. Blake: A sword? Why do I have this? And what are those things? Innocence (2): Health: 5 Damage: 1 Appearance: White clouds with large black eyes. Weapon: Light bursts on target. When one is defeated: Did...did it just die? I killed it. With my own hands I killed it... When battle is over, music fades. Blake: What were those things? They seemed so innocent. But, why did they attack me? ???: Who are you that draws the ire of the Innocent? A girl appears Blake: Huh, who are you? What is this place? Natalie: My name is Natalie. This is the realm of Purity. Blake: Purity? Natalie: Everything here is friendly and peaceful. What have you done to make Innocence attack you? Blake: Nothing! I don't even know how I got here. Natalie: Stronger forces are coming. What is happening here? I guess I shouldn't have run away from my brother... Blake: I'm no warrior! Please, you've got to help me! Natalie: Alright. My brother always tells me forgiveness is the most powerful force. Blake: But I haven't done anything wrong! Natalie: Everyone has done something wrong. Everyone is shackled by guilt and forgiveness is the key to unlock the chains... New Character: Natalie: Eyes: Sky-blue Hair: White-blonde. Long Health: 30 Damage: 3 Weapon: Magic white crescent-shaped bolt. Blake gains a level Battle starts. Music: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/3270 Friendship: Health:13 Damage: 2 Appearance: Same as Innocence, except pink Laughter: Health: 7 Damage: 7 Appearance: Same, except powder blue Note: Monsters only attack Blake After battle, music fades ???: Laughter is powerful, yet only lasts for a moment, while friendship lasts almost forever. They shouldn't be violent though... Natalie: Nathan! Brother! I'm so glad I found you! Nathan: Who is this you're with? Blake: My name is Blake. Nathan: What have you done to anger the spirits? Blake: I don't know. I don't know how I got here. I just woke up here... Natalie: Nathan, look. Is that what I think it is? Nathan: It's the Rose of Happiness. But what is it doing? It's coming closer... Blake: It's coming for me...but why? Nathan: It shouldn't be doing this. I'll protect you... New Character: Nathan Eyes: Sky-blue Hair: White-blonde. Short Health: 60 Damage: 8 Weapon: Light Sword. Battle starts. Music:http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/47050 Rose of Happiness: Health: 90 Damage:10 (only to Blake) Appearance: A single white rose. Weapon: Flurry of small white petals shooting towards target. Once it's defeated, but before it dies: "Those who radiate happiness have none left inside." The petals of the rose open to form a dark portal that sucks Blake in, leaving his knew comrades behind. Screen fades to black. White text appears: "Deep in shadows, they are blue..." Music starts: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/151445 Blake: Where am I? I can barely see, it's so dark. Battle Starts Sadness: Health: 21 Damage: 1 Appearance: Shadowy humanoid with bright yellow eyes. Looks sad. Weapon: Black tri-slash. Sorrow: Health: 7 Damage: 20 Appearance: Same as Sadness Weapon: Same as Sadness Battle ends Blake: Weird. One was so much stronger than the other... ???: Sorrow cuts deep, but sadness can last a lifetime. Blake: What, who's there? ???: You can't see me? Blake: No. Who are you? ???: You must have a strong spirit to be blind to pain. My name is Susan. Blake: Why can't I see anything? Susan: You do not know true pain. You can't comprehend what's around you. Blake: But I can't even see you. Susan: There is no light in this world. Only pain. We were doomed to eternal torture long ago. Blake: What happened? Susan: We were once a world of light, of peace, of happiness. Then darkness touched our world, and damned us. It was so long ago. Nobody has been happy since then. Now the melancholy is in the very air we breathe. You have not known enough pain to be able to understand this world. Consider yourself lucky. You don't want to see this world. Blake: Actually, I would. If I hurt myself, would I be able to see? Susan: I can for you. Pain in this world is almost a force in itself. It gives these dark beings you fought life. The very emotion lives. If you really wish to see, I can hurt your heart. Then you will see the pain of this world. Blake: Do it. I've never liked not understanding things. Susan: Brace yourself. Pain sound. Music stops. New music begins:http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/160919 Blake: I can see. I can't see much, but it's enough. Susan: Uh-oh. Demons are coming. Blake: Demons? Susan: Manifestations of pain. They torment everyone here. I hope my brother is okay. Blake: I'll help you. Susan: You look dead on your feet. It's okay, I've endured much, I can handle a little more pain. Wait, these seem more powerful. Fine, you can help. Take this. Blake: I can't see what it is. Susan: Just eat it. It'll ease your pain. Blake: But I won't be able to see! Susan: Don't worry. You know the pain now. Your sight won't go away. Now get ready. New Character: Susan: Eyes: Black Hair: Black. Long. Health: 70 Damage:10 Weapon: Black Whip. Blake's health restored Battle starts: Music: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/85046 Heartbreak: Health: 17 Damage: 30 Appearance: Same as Sadness, except blood red. Meloncholy: Health: 51 Damage: 2 Appearance: Navy Heartbreak. Battle ends. Music ends. Blake gains a level. New music:http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/160005 Susan: Heartbreak hurts so much... Blake: Yeah ???: Nobody had better be breaking my sis's heart. Susan: Sean! I hope you're okay. Sean: I'm okay. And who's this little guy tagging along? Blake: My name's Blake. Sean: What brings you here Blake? Blake: I don't really know. I...I just sort of fell into this world. Sean: From where? Blake: I don't know where I was before. I'm not exactly sure where I am now. It's all so strange... Susan: Sean! Oh Sean! Look! Sean: No...it's coming. Blake: What's coming. I can barely see, remember! Susan: It's the Rose. The Rose of Torment. It must know you're here Blake. I guess it must want to open your eyes to all of this world. Oh Sean! We can't let it hurt him! Sean: We can't stand up to it all by ourselves. It's too powerful. All we have to fight with is our own pain. You can't fight pain with pain. Susan: Sean! You don't understand! Blake doesn't know the kind of pain we do. He doesn't know our sorrow. He can fight it. And if he wins, we'll be free...finally free... Sean:...fine. Blake, prepare yourself. You don't know the kind of pain it can inflict. You're going to be more susceptible to it. I'll try and shield you as best I can. New Character: Sean: Health: 100 Damage: 15 Eyes: Black Hair: Black. Short. Weapon: V-shaped 'pain' bolt. Special: Takes damage that would normally go to Blake. Battle starts. Music: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/148404 Rose of Torment: Health: 560 (Blake does 10x damage) Damage:25 (Rose only attacks Blake.) Appearance: A single black rose, with thorns on its stem. When defeated but before it dies: "Those who are cut and slashed bleed on the outside. Those who hearts and souls are stabbed and tore apart bleed on the inside..." The rose dissolves into a pool of blood. Music ends. New Music: Susan: Sean! Oh Sean, please tell me you're okay! Sean: Susan...I...I don't think I'm going to...make it...but...it was....worth it....we're.........free...free...........free... Susan: NO! You can't die! Don't leave me Sean! Sean: There's....no more......pain...You're......safe... Susan: I still need you! Sean: I'm....sorry........goodbye...sis... Blake: Thank-you, Sean. Sean: No...thank....you...for....freedom... Susan: Dead...my brother is dead... Blake: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry... Susan: He did what he had to. It's not fair. He saves all of us, and he doesn't even get the reward...it's just not fair... Blake: Wait. Look. Is the Rose's blood...glowing? Susan: It looks like....it looks like it's a portal... Blake: I think I have to go... Susan: No, you can't leave me too Blake! Blake: Stay here, where you belong Susan. You're stronger than me, I know you'll make it here. The pain is gone. You have nothing to fear now. Go and lead your people. Protect them. Do what Sean would've done. Susan: You didn't know him Blake...how do you know what he would want? Blake: He protected me so that I could save this whole world. He protected the world. That's what he died for. Stay here and continue what he died doing. Susan: Ok. Go save another world. I'll protect this one... Blake steps into the pool of blood, and slowly sinks into it. The screen fades to blood-red. Blue text appears: "True passion may not mean being sweet." Music starts: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/100727 Blake: This place. It makes me feel so alive... Blake gains a level. Battle starts. Rage: Health: 11 Damage: 80 Appearance: Blood red humanoid, floating in the air with their hands over their hearts. Weapon: Red energy burst. This was originally going to be a really simple game for my friend who's been only coding for like a year now in C++. And who is using paint for graphics. So, like the battles are FF-ish with little to no animation, and the outside battle scenes could be still drawings. Just wondering though, did anyone notice how the monster's damage and health works? I'm hoping that's easy to understand since that's the only difficult thing I can do with this game really. With constant health, damage, etc. figuring out which monster to kill first so you don't die is one of the challenges. It's a little bit of a puzzle and an RPG.
