I have a friend who is letting me borrow some of his games. They are all legal copies, etc. There's one caveat that's bugging me, though: Are they illegal because I'm not borrowing the discs? My friend doesn't trust ANYONE with his game discs, since too many people have ruined them after borrowing them. so instead of risking his discs, he made .iso files (a digital copy of the disc) of the games I wanted to borrow and gave them to me. The question I have here is this: Is giving me a copy of the game that I did not buy but do not intend to distribute piracy, or just lending to a friend? And rest assured, I have no intention of distributing the .iso files over the Internet, EVER. |

Well besides the fact you have to mess with your xbox to make the games work, or so I've heard, which I wouldn't trust myself doing any day of the week. The verse thou shalt not steal comes to mind. It isn't stealing from your friend if he gives it to you, and technically it belongs to him as he payed for it. I'm sure some legal paperwork would say it's actually the companies and I just saw a way my argument could be used wrongly. So I excommunicate myself from this till I get some common sense. |

Nah. Its just sharing. But if you really like the game, go buy a copy for yourself. |

He's borrowing a game, but his friend took the game, and gave him the basic info on the game, the ROM or in this case ISO file, which is the game, just not on the CD. And he would take that file, burn it on a CD and put it in his XBox and whatnot. Or so I think. |

DRAGON S - the actual law here is you are not allowed to make copies and so from a law point of view you are in pocession of an illegal item. Laws made if followed by all,all the time, are meant to be for the the overall good so if your Law abiding you add to the number that make them work its most likely something you are getting a prompting to look into your own life in a bigger picture to do with issues that really matter in relation to integrity i sound like a friggin fortuneteller... ?it is sharing and majoring on the minors but its great you have a heart to even concern yourself with it

This depends on the law in the current jurisdiction you are in. In Norway it has usually been allowed to make as many copies as you'd like for personal use. (Like putting your favorite DVD in a bank vault in case your house burns down or something). These laws may have changed lately, but it has at least not come to my knowledge. You should check your country's webpages. |

OK, to answer your questions: 1) I live in the USA. Copying your DVDs, CDS, etc., is legal for archival purposes here. 2) This is on the computer. Xboxes have controls and such to prevent me from making copies, etc. 3) Yes, I am borrowing the games from my friend. In the cases where I need a authentication key, I am using his. 4) This stuff isn't pirated, per se. I didn't steal, so...yeah. There you have it. 5) Yes, I mind very much if you copy/paste this into the Godlimations Chronicles. What are they, anyway? I'm going to take your answers as "No, it's not stealing or illegal." |
