See, here's just one problem.
The definition has been changed before.
I know you live in Australia, and I'm not sure if it's the same there though. :P It was only in 1967 that interracial marriage was accepted, legalized. People always used the same excuse that is was bad, that is was going against traditional marriage, that it was going to affect the values that marriage brings. Look at it now, it's more than widely accepted, it's just as equal as "traditional" marriage before the interracial aspect was legalized. I don't even like referring to homosexuals marrying as "gay marriage". We fight for the right for homosexuals getting married, but considering gay marriage any different from heterosexual marriage is unequal in itself. Of course it's mostly an identity used to define the difference between heterosexual couples marrying and homosexuals marrying, but I don't want it to turn into a case where homosexuals start gaining more rights than heterosexuals just because they feel like they've been oppressed for so long. That's not equality.
Agreed on the equality front. Giving people "extra" rights just to make up for past discrimination just makes the minority begin to feel entitled and the majority increasingly resentful. It's just counterproductive.

While I understand why people compare interracial marriage with homosexual marriage, it still annoys me. Race is not a choice, orientation--or at least indulging that orientation--is. The Bible never speaks against different races, it does speak against homosexuality. And the argument "This was forbidden, now it's allowed, clearly this other forbidden thing should be allowed also" makes no logical sense. By the same logic, one could argue for child/adult marriages, brother/sister marriages, and animal/human marriages.

Understand that I'm not saying YOU are arguing for this, or even that most proponents of gay marriage would. But then, I don't know how many supporters of interracial marriage back in 1967 would have argued for gay marriage.

And of course if you use the same argument don't forget polygamy !
If you want to change the definition of marriage to suit yourself their will be people out there that want to marry 2 sheep or horses 🐴🐴 instead of just their cat !🐱
So again, I don't understand why it's a equal rights issue at all.
Homosexual Gay or whatever people describe themselves as CAN GET MARRIED.
It's not denied or forbidden them.
marriage is between a man & a women it's the union of a man & a women.
Its a universal fundamental aspect of marriage.
A union between people who want the same benefits as marriage is a civil union.

I honestly have no problem with polygamy. If three or more people decide they want to get married, who am I to step in the way of that? Arzy, I know you live in Australia so I'm not completely sure if this goes for you as well. Here we have separation of church and state, so the bible speaking out against homosexuality shouldn't be brought up when attempting to keep it illegal or legalizing it. the bible doesn't even refer to homosexual marriage, though it does speak out against homosexual intercourse, as stated in Leviticus. The definition of marriage has changed several times, I mean hell, here it used to be a privilege only Caucasians had. People often think homosexual marriages will lead to beastiality or incestuous marriage, but I find that a bit ridiculous. Trying to marry an animal isn't right due to the fact it can't consent, nor does it have any knowledge of marriage or the aspects it implies. Incestuous marriage in itself doesn't harm anyone, but children born from incest generally have deadly malformations. I'm glad that the federal government is now unable to make the decision; it's up to the states to decide. I believe California and Michigan have already started issuing licences. Anyway, to me it's normal because I feel attracted to both sexes.
