No, I'm just saying, we have pretty awesome technology. I wouldn't actually do that. Unless I worked at one of those places, and it was bring random person to work day.

See, I don't think that people who believe in Zeus do actually believe that Hephestos is actually toiling away making lightning bolts.

Similarly with Thor, I imagine its more to do with things like Norwegian identity, belief in the supernatural, metaphorical etc etc...

Not necessarily, most of them are not even Scandinavian. Yet I do agree that the modern versions are probably a bit more vague and untestable than back in the days when ritual sacrifices was seen as integral for a good harvest.

I would actually back up Lue's original post the way I read it: If you still haven't learned your lesson to choose a religion where your deity sits firmly in an untestable supernatural dimension you should be prepared to have the lightning bolt of empiric evidence blow your sky-daddy out of the water. That's one of the ways norsemen were converted from their religion. When the followers of "White-Christ" destroyed their wooden statues and demonstrated that it was rats inside who ate the sacrifices they put out. When the norsemen asked where "White-Christ" was so they could do the same test the other way, the Christians pointed to the skies where their God could not be reached to be tested.

@Arazec, you sure know how to bait a trap...

@Concolor. Admittedly, I don't know anyone who does follow Thor (other than comic book fans, and I don't know many of them either). But here in the UK, there is a fair bit of the whole druidic thing going on (they come out more about this time of year with the spring) and a lot of that has to do with the "Merrie England" notion - you know, before all this horrible (read: American) stuff like pollution and drugs and rock music and sewer systems.

I'm not sure I understand that...

maybe I used an idiom that's unfamiliar to me. My Mum's fine and while I'm sure she would be delighted by a cuddle, she would probably be surprised by the fact that I spent £50 on a train fare to do it...

I did not use bait as in trap as in web as in spinster. Nor do i know what cark it means. For all I know, after reading your post it might be sexual (but I've learned to expect a little more dignity from you than that). What ever the meaning, if it makes you unhappy, please don't do it.

I didn't get it either, but then again it was hard to hear it over the shattering glass-house :P

Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

My old band teacher always said that.

Good times...

@ARAZEC: I must admit it would be a tad easier to discuss these things with you if you kept each discussion to it's own thread. Right now your last two posts seem to belong to two completely separate threads (and none of them to this one).

I won't either. It would be interesting to know what goes on in there brains.

OH WHO AM I KIDDING? Boys and girls are exactly the same, except we express ourselves differently. And I don't mean we're twins or anything.

Actually, scientifically, male and female brains are wired 23% differently.
Which is why women can talk more easily about their emotions.

Not that I'm saying the general of the specific and vice versa.
Just saying.
