Here is a little love story on how rip Tides came to be. Class assignment.

Agatha Rippe, Goddess of the Serpents
By Helena

Agatha stood facing the writhing ocean, thrashing across the rocks as if ot knew this was the day Agatha had to jump. Agatha Rippe, with long, sparkling olive hair and tall, thin figure, couldn’t believe the mess she had gotten herself in. She wondered why she made that bet with Romal, the God of Small Life, in the first place.
Months ago, Agatha was perched on her warm rock in the middle of the forest, speaking to the wood snakes. She spoke to snakes in a language nobody could understand, but it sounded like she was whispering a song under her breath.
Most people associate serpents with evil, but Agatha knew people just didn’t understand them. She believed they could transport messages to the Gods in codes using their slithering bodies.
So Agatha sat there, minding her own business, when the stocky and very irritable Romal, God of the Small Lifes, came bashing through the trees.
“Your slimy reptiles,” thundered Romal, “Are eating my sweet little mice and gophers and rabbits.” Romal kicked aside a Python that was trying to eat his toes. “Can’t you keep these pests under control?”
“MY creatures are pests?” hissed Agatha. “You do realize my little angels are saving the people by eating your crop-devouring mammals.”
“Well,” sneered Romal, “If your snakes stop eating my creatures, I’ll command mine to feast elsewhere.”
“And what if they don’t?” growled Agatha
“If either of our animals eat the food forbidden, then their God or Goddess will have to........” Romal fiddled with his robe. “The God or Goddess will have to jump into the sea!”
“Hmph.” commented Agatha, a very good swimmer. “Fine. I bet your dumb voles will crack first.”
“Mmmmm.......I know how much your Garters love vole meat......” replied Romal with a smirk.
That night, Agatha sat with her friend, Tyde, God of the different waves of the sea. She explained her situation to him, and asked for help.
Tyde had always felt a strong passion towards Agatha. He promised to help her as best he could.
The next day, Tyde caused a huge wave to crash against the fields, leaving them moist and saltily seasoned. The rodents didn’t touch a single wheat stalk.
Romal had his tricks, too. He fed his hungry pests only butter, and soon they became soft and fat. The serpents went crazy with hunger, but stuck to eating berries.
Soon, Romal’s little finches ate every berry in the woods. Just as Romal said, the snakes, not wanting to turn to cannibalism, finally cracked. The first snake to eat what was forbidden was, in fact, a Garter. He ate a Blue Jay.
When Romal found out, he laughed in triumph. Agatha forgave the serpent, but was angry at Tyde. She told him off in blind fury and left him sitting on the beach by himself. Tyde’s heart was broken, so the trashing waves matched his mood.
Agatha stood on the cliff above the untamed sea, and just as she was above to jump, Tyde came behind her and tried to grab her hand. This startled Agatha, and she fell into the sea.
Tyde cried, but realized he could calm the waves. He caused them to slowly go bak and forth, like a serpent, and Agatha fell into the small, unharmful waves. She tried to swim towards shore, but the sea held her and thrashed her back and forth. Guilty of his stupid mistake, Tyde named the gentle tugging waves after her, calling them a Rippe Tyde. They hide in the calm ocean, pulling anyone who comes near, so they can give company to the vengeful Agatha Rippe.
