@concolor: aww shucks! you remembered!

@luemas: me? not like the bible? what gave you that impression?
And I actually mean that genuinely - what have i said in this thread that makes you think I don't like the bible?

And for the record - I think the best bits of the bible are the ones we rarely get to enjoy - Proverbs leaps to mind. Instead we have to put up with Paul's incessant diatribes.

also getting us back on topic: one bit of the bible that really love:
Quote:

And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

This is often read at weddings, referring to the love of two people. It gets us nicely back on topic because it is said by one woman to another (gasp!)

Yeah, her MOTHER IN LAW.

I always thought that kinda strange, you know, the mother in law usually being insane and whatnot.
But Ruth, being a widow, and a Moabite, marrying a jew, most likely abandoned her people upon that marriage, and widows couldn't exactly get a job and move on.

Yeah -i wouldnt say its a common wedding passage- but it is a common passage that non-beleivers try to twist to mean a sexual love rather than a loyal platonic love between kin.

Uh...and apparently now also theists.

About the woman being her mother in law, that wouldn't really be incest since they're not related by blood. And as far as I've seen the Bible does not have a problem with incest at all.

love is love. whether it involves hot girl on girl action is irrelevant.

And as someone who worked in a church - yes, it is a common wedding passage. You'll have to trust me on this one.

"girl on girl action" is not love. there is a difference between love and lust.

@conradw: Which congregation? I'll bet you it's one of those evil denominations who have a completely wrong interpretation of the Bible. As opposed to those who have an accurate interpretation of the Bible.

Man, I'm Catholic: we have the One True Interpretation! Don't make me pull Papal Infallibility on you!

and so wait - is what Ruth is saying an example of love or lust?

Most likely an example of loyalty.
Did anyone here forget that she's her mother in law?
HER MOTHER IN LAW?
I mean seriously?

No, I wasn't using the hate.
I was using the assumption of it being a love passage of a different sort of love than normal.

nue!!!! cant two women love each other in a non-relationship way? good gracious back then if two women said "i love you" yes they loved each other but not in, like, a man-woman relationship. like friends. seriously if two people say, "love you" today people always take it like they love-love each other!
its love, for shizniz sake, does nobody read lue's posts? mother...in.....law.....cough.
augh so american... ^o)

hmmm
i'm noticing a trend here: when its the feeling i feel for my female friend you call it lust.
When its between two people of the same sex its loyalty (or, of course sodomy).

Yeah, that's love but its not 'love-love' or real love (or worst of all: 'man-woman relationship'), you say.

To that, I say: if those aren't real love then nothing is!
