I fought for you I spat out cruel words against cruel words Every night the battles distracted me from you Is that what you thought was neglect Maybe it was your fault for causing trouble Maybe it was my fault for being strong For trying to be strong You’re a beautiful person Why must your presence cause quarrels Did I scare you when I lashed out It was all for your sake You tremble at my touch But it is no longer love Shyness Want and passion When your cold eyes rest upon me You remind me of what I did for you And my heart is warmed And then you look away And my bruises sting |

omfg sure, that would get readers ![]() im actually writing something publishable right now, heres the prologue- Imagine a world. Imagine a populated area, streaming with robot-like people. Forget the scene you've created -- People walking around each other in crowded streets, bumping into each other, the needy ignored, not knowing who you stare in the face before you pass them by and never see them again. Erase these things from your memory and create a different scenario -- The liars, the thieves, the cheaters, all those who have done wrong could be picked out of the crowd in an instant. The busy people, quick to judge, would stop in their tracks, move a few feet away to let the sinner pass by, guard their belongings or push their child's face towards their skirts, still walking to their desired destination. Maybe thinking about the physical features, so seemingly normal, of the robber who just whisked by them, or maybe not thinking about it at all, completely immune to the criminal’s icy demeanor. But how are these wrongdoers singled out from the rest of your imaginary people? Here is a real place for you to think about--Dream of a place where every sin left a different colored mark on your left arm; white for, of course, a white lie, (a thin line, for everyone had one) a thick band of navy blue for adultery, a purple bruise-like color for thievery, a yellow stain for cheating, a deep green patch for malicious thoughts, an orange stripe for blasphemy. There were, of course, hundreds of colors, and only the serious sins would be highly visible. A small pink line for envy could be ignored while a purple one was an immediate warning--stay away, don't trust! It could ruin you, and for many, it did. Every time a body washed up under a bridge, it would have a deep, menacing color gracing its arm--and the terrible grey streak for suicide. Jails were as full as they are now, just the innocent stayed out and the evil stayed in. The only reason a court existed was to embarrass the criminal being convicted. But how did these strange markings appear? Nobody truly understood the scientific reason for them. All the people of this place knew, was that there was no way to wash these tally marks of immorality off of their skin, it was embedded deep inside them like a tattoo that ran along your muscle. Many had tried to scrub away these marks of tort, and just ended up in the hospital with a multicolored bone exposed. Only one sin did not create a blemish on the arm--instead, it formed an “X” across your heart. A red “X”, big and bold, that covered the chest of many prisoners; and that big red symbol meant murder. But why was murder so hidden, when petty theft was placed out in the open, for everyone to see? With crime being so easily avoided, there was a funny little bit of karma mixed into the streets of this world. Not amusing? Welcome to a world where options aren't optional. The only marking that nobody could classify was one that couldn't be seen.....you would never know if you had the invisible streak until you committed your next sin and the colorful brand was spaced very far from your last one. Only then could you know that you had done this concealable wrongdoing. The thing is, with it being undetectable on the skin, nobody knew what this sin was, for you couldn't see it appear on your arm as soon as you carried out your imperfect act. Nobody knew if this sin was extremely grave, or if it was something simple. Many had tried to perform transgressions that hadn't been done before, and then committing an old crime to try and see if they could unlock the mystery of this invisible streak, but they always just ended up making new colors: puces, muddy greens. Perhaps the humans were thinking too hard. Maybe it was just two petty crimes mixed; stealing something and lying about it. But nobody other than the daredevils would attempt this, and they were busy experimenting with more dangerous acts of unrighteousness. Even the children of this earth were interested in the invisible sin. At high schools, kids would tease those with even the smallest space between their mark for lying and their mark for sloth or whatever sins there happened to be room between. For the younger children, still innocent, they would ink their skin blotchily and pretend that they had done wrong. It wasn't something the adults liked their offspring doing, but there was no stopping it. No matter what planet you're on, evil is as plentiful as good. One day, four teens got a little too interested in the former. |
