I once condemmed that Euthanasia was an undeniable Murder in Disguise but after watching the movie "Million Dollar Baby" i started to change my mind about it To those who havent watched the movie, it goes something like this: A girl had so many dreams about boxing and she is willing to do anything about it so an old man had trained her to reach her dreams. They gotten so close and they are like a father and a daugther to each other. Until one terrible day, the girl met a *beeeeeeep* enemy who cant accept defeat so after the count reach ten, the enemy just attack the girl! Her head landed on the metal corner of the ring so hard she was paralyzed. For 9 terrible years she stayed at the hospital until she realized that her life no longer has meaning so she tried commiting suicide by bitting her tounge and let it bleed but it failed so this happened The Terribly Sad nding I just want to here your opinion about Euthanasia Edited by Babaylan, 31 Jul 2010, 04:31 AM.

Well, Euthanasia is one of those foggy questions. Here's how I view it. 1. A proponent of Eugenics, like what the Nazi's did. 2. An attempt at suicide, or assisted suicide, as what Dr. Kavorkian did. (I think that's how you spell that...) 3. This is... the grey part for me. If someone is a vegetable, or is being kept alive by a machine, I could see it. I guess this is really the major meaning of it, as in mercy killing. However, If there's any hope at all... I mean, if someone is suffering, and their only life is in a hospital bed hooked up to a dozen different machines... I generally defer to Thou Shalt Not Kill... |

The Nazi's Euthanasia thing? They didn't kill only people who had miserable life, which could sound okay- they killed also mad people, cripple people and retardeds- their life did not have to end, and even did not have to be bad at all... The Nazis did Euthanasia because they believed in the purity of blood- and anyone that did not seem to them "pure" in a way- which means anyone who was not healthy etc- was considered impure and could risk the Nazis' "pure" race- so he had to go. There was no real compassion behind these deeds. There were only low hate of the different, stupidity and violence. |

@both Lue and Rose: Actually, as far as I know, euthanasia has nothing to do with what the Nazi's did. Euthanasia can fall into the categories #2 or #3 that Luemas put up. Basically, it is about helping people die. It can be assisted suicide in the form of prescribing medication that will end a persons life, helping a person take this medication, giving such high doses of painkillers that it will shorten the final part of the death stages or simply stopping life prolonging treatment (like "pulling the chord"). It can also be not to give life prolonging treatment in the first place. Now what the Nazis did was just plain old murder, but you are both right in that this was linked to their view of eugenics and they view on racism (which they believed in). @Babaylan: The use of euthanasia is practiced differently depending on where you are in the world. Often, there is a debate about if people who want to die rather than being artificially kept alive (like in the movie) have a right to die or not. Many countries are clear that their citizens have a right to life, but it is often left out to address the question if that means they also have a right to end their life. In some states in the USA and some countries in Europe, people are allowed some kinds of euthanasia. In Norway it is not allowed, so if someone helped me to end my life they could go to jail. I think people should have the right to end their life if they want to, and I don't want to be kept artificially alive if that means to have a week extra in terrible pain and indignity, or if I am brain-damaged and have to spend my life as a vegetable. Therefore I have joined a special association where you get a card (kinda like a donor-card) that says I do not wish to be kept artificially alive etc. However, this has limited effect since the law prohibits the doctors and my family from helping me. It could still be a helpful in case of a trial, that the people who have helped me might get reduced sentence, or in a borderline case they might go free. |

Life is beautiful, love heals, people come through. Reason, compassion and love comes first. Everything else is secondary. Except for Skittles. - And emperor Cheezy!
