How about "why eating babies is good for the economy"? (<- this is a joke, by the way)

But I am always ready to take a controversial stand on basically any topic. Why teaching kids about sex leads to fewer teen pregnancies. Why agnostics and jews are more popular on dating sites. How people who do crime should not neccesarily be put in jail etc. etc.

You name 'em, I'll have an unorthodox position on 'em (probably)

@Concolor why do you see yourself as most likely not conforming to accepted rules or standards ?

That's an... interesting one you've got there. Sex ed for younger kids. How young are we talking?

(Then again, Kids 13 are getting pregnant, so I would say atleast by then, if not younger o_0)

Ugh. Sex ed. they always save it for the last week of school...
We could always debate the subject of kids picking religion based on their uprasing.
Or along with that how much people actually question and think about the religion they choose.

@ARAZEC: I meant "controversial" as in "might not be mainstream opinion on this site" not "conforming to accepted rules or standards". After all, a Norwegian atheist on an American christian site is likely to have opinions who deviate from the mainstream opinions of the site.

@Lue: I dunno what age really. I learned all this when I was 5 or 6, but I don't know what would be optimal on average. I agree with you that they should learn before they get sexually active, so apparently before teenage in the case you mention.

@Vamp: Yeah that's an interesting question. Why do kids overwhelmingly often get the same religion as their parents?

@Concolor, Jaaar, mainstream on this site ? you divisive in your opinions ? mostly there is aggreement on this site and I wouldnt say you really have polemic views-look at your signature for example...you dont really beleive that sacrificing live babies is a good idea your views are pretty mainstream for an atheist-To me there seems to be more that is agreed upon than not.
What views do you have that are really controversial ?

Because people don't think about their religion. Enough. Well, some do. Like Lue or Arzy or...A lot of folks on here. Which is quite rare actually, I asked someone why they picked their religion and their response was:
"Uh...er...My parents are Christian."
You'd think since religion is this important in the world that people would think about it and question it more to themselves.

People don't like to think, as a rule.
I don't. If I could, I would use speech to text software and say all of this. But it usually doesn't work. And it doesn't put in all the comma's, that I like to put in, almost obscenely so, because I like to accent phrases.

But yes. Most christians don't really like people like those. I have more respect for an atheist who chose his path then christians like those. Because they're not christians. They're facades.
And while facade is one of my favorite words, I don't like it when people have them. Except me. Because I'm special.

@ARAZEC: Examples of controversial positions: I would claim that my opinion that there are no Gods could be counted as controversial on a christian site. My view that life changes over time as according to the theory of evolution through natural selection is not necessarily universally accepted here.

Also, my signature is highly anti-religious, as it puts reason, compassion and love before everything else - especially faith. I would find it difficult to call someone highly religious if they allowed their faith to be changed by reason, compassion or love.

@Vamp: I must admit that I do hold more intellectual respect for those who truly take a position as to what they think about important questions in life. Yet I must also admit that I'm glad that most people do not care, as I see religious texts as altogether unwholesome and would be disconcerted if many people chose to actually follow the writings in practice.

oh,thats odd.
Because according to the Bible "God is Love" & a "reason" plus volition is whats required to exhibit true "compassion"

I dont see "faith" in your sig
But I admire you because it does take a lot of faith to be an Athiest ! espeacially as their isnt any proof whatsoever to prove that there are no Gods ! :)

I do not follow proof (unless in math and formal logic), only evidence ;)
