When I was still in High-school, I read a book about a complete study set of Greek Mythologies.
When the Chapter started when Humans finally had a chance to interfere with the business of the gods, it was divided like this:

Golden Age.
During this Age, men are as happy as the gods. They are not powerful yet they are content for they could ask for nothing more...but they did, which started the Silver Age
Silver Age.
Driven by desire for power and Authority, the race of humanity was abolished and forced to toil the ground. Their hardships and sufferings caused them to grow seeds of jealousy to their brothers and sisters
Bronze Age.
Violence and Cruelty had become the everyday of mankind. Though they are merciless, they still have honor and never tried to lie
Modern Age.
Treachery and Betrayal became the international language. Shameless creatures that even crafted Mythologies showing their gods in a level as they are. Sinners that were honored as Saints was placed on a pedestal to be considered as a hero

The introduction for the chapter of mankind ended there. Now lets put it into Christianity:
"Blessed are those who believe yet did not see"
Translated as: "Be Guillible"
But was it really that way before?

When Jesus was nailed to the cross, The people of Israel realized that they abused their powers and became no better than animals (Except the people of the emperor who persecuted Christians). Now lets compare it with the silver age.

Difference
Silver Age=People were persecuted by toiling the soil
Early Christians= Persecuted by their belief
Similarities:
Both honors their brother and sister and they do not rely on treachery for survival

When Christianity was finally accepted by the Romans, they built temples to honor the Messiah and Yahweh. Yet they have disputes with Islam for they considers themselves as the chosen civilization but Muslims resists their approaches.

Difference:
Bronze Age= People wage wars with their brothers
Early Christians= Discriminates other people with their belief
Similarities:
Both do not rely on treachery and are not corrupted with power

When the dispute flamed up, and Jerusalem was taken over, the medieval era occured. Guess you know what happened but I will still write it down:
The first Crusade consisted of Farmers who was blinded by the promise of the pope that their debts will be considered paid in full. Untrained and unexperience, they were easily destroyed
The second Crusade consisted of 3 divisions. Each had a king of their own. The first one was killed, the second drowned and the third made it to Jerusalem but still lose.
The third crusade was the worst one. They were called "Crusaders" yet they merely slaughtered their brothers who was born in the Eastern Orthodox and plundered their treasures

Difference:
None
Similarities:
All

Based on how it started, we could see that our Brothers and Sisters who toiled the ground trusted those at the top. Yet those at the top saw the power of faith and used to to their own purposes at the cost of others. Where we could conclude that Faith was once a beautiful word that meant "Impenetrable Trust" but history corrupted it and it became the description of Ignorance.
Though there are still cases that it is still used the same way as it was but it is no longer as powerful as it it once was

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by frost.
