Here's some role-playing terms that may come into play during the game. Abbreviations are included in parenthesis. This is a work in progress, make suggestions and be prepared to reread it once it's completed. Role-Playing Game (RPG): What we're doing. It's like a story where the players each play the part of a character in the story and shape the story with their actions. Game Master (GM): The game master runs and controls the game. He is in charge. Player: The person who runs a character in the story. Character: The person in the story who is controlled by the player. Non-Player Character (NPC): This is a character who is not controlled by any character, but by the GM. These are the imaginary people you will interact with while playing. Player Character (PC): Another name for a character. It specifies clearly that this is not an NPC. Round: A round is when all the players' take a turn. In this game, all the players get one turn each day, so every day consists of one round. Turn: A turn is a chance for a player to make a move or a series of moves. Think of it as if Bob, Sue, and John were playing monopoly. Bob takes his turn by rolling his dice, and moving his token. Sue takes her turn buy rolling, moving, and buying Boardwalk. John takes his turn by rolling to get out of jail. This has been one round. Next round they'll each get another turn. In CharacterA phrase meaning that the action was done by the character. Sample sentence: When I said "You're and idiot," I said that in character. I think that you're pretty smart in real life. Out of Game: A statement made out of normal gameplay. This is usually said to distinguish between what the player is saying and what her character is saying. Sample: Out of game, I'm going to get up and grab a soda. I'll be back to playing in a few minutes. 2d6This is a notation. It meand roll 2 dice, specifically 6-sided dice. A d6 is a six-sided die. A d20 is a twenty-sided die, used almost exclusively in role-playing. A d2 is a coin that is flipped. Since I'm doing this on a computer, I can use any type of die I want, be it 3-sided, 17-sided, or 1000 sided. There's not a lot of dice-rolling in this particular game but I may use it to determine luck at some points. Plus, if we ever do a different system, there will probably be dice rolling. |
