"Alright everybody! It's been a long day and many of our contestants have been blown away by their competition. However, it's now time for the best 16 of the Gunpla Battle Beginner's Tournament to strut their stuff~!" Announcer-san, mic in hand, stood on the stage overlooking the eight Gunpla Battlefields that had been setup within the grounds.

Each Battle Field consisted of seven fields set together, creating a moderately large battlefield for the contestants. With all eight setup within the community center's indoor field area, there was still plenty of room between the fields as well as a spectator and participant area.

GUNPLA BATTLE COMBAT MODE, STARTUP. MODEL DAMAGE LEVEL, SET TO B.

The systems began to hum to life as the Plavsky Particles started to build up, indicating it was time to begin.

PLEASE, SET YOUR GP BASE.

"Everyone is now setting their GP Base! The fields are generating now... looks like we have a nice variety of fields today for everyone to tear each other apart!"

BEGINNING PLAVSKY PARTICLE DISPERSAL... FIELD 12, ISLAND. PLEASE SET YOUR GUNPLA.

"And with this, everyone has set their Gunpla... it's time to....!" with the audience cheering in the background, Announcer-san pointed her mic out towards the battle fields.

BATTLE START.

Vincent was, in all honesty, a bit surprised with himself. He had decided to participate in this tournament to get a better feel for the local talent, but wasn't expecting to have come into its best sixteen. "I suppose the line has been drawn between those with mere dreams and those with determination." he said to himself, then made a curious face. "Eh... that sounded lame." he mumbled. In any case, there was no point in letting up now. Vincent originally came to spectate but decided to participate at the last moment; he was more interested in writing a piece on this tourney than winning it, however he understood the importance of the competition and wasn't taking these matches lightly.

As the battle system warmed up and requested he set his tools, Vincent complied. He set his GP base into its designated spot with a click, and the information on his Campion came up following the Yajima logo. He then set his Gunpla down on the adjacent platform. Plavsky particles took hold of the little model, making its head tilt and eyes light up. They then came together to form the iconic catapult launching system as the control box formed around Vincent.

"Vincent Mongibello, TR-1 Campion. Launch!"

As the Campion entered the arena the catapult system disappeared behind it. Vincent took note of the map chosen by the system as he head into the battle. "Island huh? Might be able to make some use of the terrain, but more importantly I'll have to pay attention to where I am myself." Keeping that in mind, Vincent kept alert for signs of his opponent.

In all honesty Aida wasn't sure why he entered the tournament. No, that was a lie, Matt was the reason. After what went down at Gigun-Z he had a huge bone to pick with the older teen. So when he heard he was entering the beginner's tournament Aida joined himself without hesitation. Even though he technically wasn't a beginner he still had only been playing for two years so he qualified. He felt a bit terrible about beating up on the new generation but whatever it took to face Matt in the finals. With the best 16 chosen it was time for the real fights to begin. Today Aida was wearing his signature black longcoat over a dark grey dog eared hoodie. Aida was known for his array of hoodies that he often wore with the hood up even indoors. He was also known for being something of a social recluse. Ever since the accident involving his sister he faded from the public eye despite being the Kansai regional champion. It was certainly odd that he wasn't participating in a tournament in his local area but here.

Aida walked to the battle arena and calmly set his GP base and gunpla. He only took a few casual glances at his opponent, an older fellow who just screamed paparazzi. He hated the press. There was a special place in hell for those gossip mongers. Still if he was a gunpla battler he couldn't be all that bad right? Guess he'd have to see in the match.

Aida placed the Yojimbo down and a small smile crossed his face. There were a few people in the audience who seemed to recognize him and began to let out howls. Back when his sister stood at his side she use to amp their fans up by howling, a play on the canine motif they styled themselves with. It was kind of endearing that, even without Ayame here, the crowd still did it for him. It got his blood all fired up. "Alright alright, let's do this! Tsukuro Aida, G-Exia Yo!Jim!Bo!, let's go!" Each syllable of the gunpla's name was yelled out with emphasis and passion before the suit launched into the battlefield.

Immediately Aida vanished deep into the forest. The patient predator stalked its prey and observed before attacking. He wouldn't rush headlong into this fight. He'd wait to see what his opponent did first before making a move.

"Hm. Not one for the straight-forward approach I guess." Vincent said, having not seen his opponent come straight out like most tended to. "This might take some time then." Vincent backed carefully into the foggy marshes, making sure not to land himself in a pit of mud. The sensor that ran along the Campion's head lit up a dim, solid green and surveyed the surrounding area. Nothing, or at least nothing moving, was nearby according to the various instruments equipped. Vincent sucked his teeth and moved the Campion's booster pod back, then turned it up so the shield booster would cover the rear. He moved slowly, deeper into the marsh, keeping his shield up and rifle at his side. It wasn't the best move, but he would be hidden to a degree at least.

The thick, fog covered, swampy forest provided both excellent cover and a dangerous battlefield to traverse. It required a light step to move in and out of the trees without sinking into the muck. A lighter one still to prevent tripping any sensors the opponent might have. Long ranged attacks in this dense forest would be impossible. That left close quarters combat; exactly what Aida wanted. This was a long game he was willing to play. Eventually though he'd have to come out of hiding and attack. The Yojimbo edged closer and closer, waiting, watching, observing. He stayed just out of sensor range and waited to see what his opponent might do. Which one of them would be the first to blink?

Vincent pressed on, a little quicker now as he was getting impatient. There was still no sign of his opponent. "I'd have rather a snow storm than this fog." He was disgruntled at the crippling field conditions, though with each complaint he had he came up with ideas for upgrades to the Campion. Adaptable parts, new sensors, new equipment; his frustration quickly turned into glee as his mind wandered a bit. Win or lose, he knew exactly where he was going after this tournament was over.

Anticipation was on the wind. The waiting game... it surely wore on his opponent's nerves by now. It was certainly wearing on Aida's own. His was a self inflicted condition however so he had no one to blame but his own cautious nature. He gathered enough data by now though. It was time to act. Thrusters fired on all cylinders, gears whirred, drives engaged, and the Yojimbo accelerated rapidly across the swamp land. Bursting out of the treeline at high speeds towards his opponent. Aida fired off a cluster of shots from his DDOS rifle and brought his shield up ahead of time after to protect from the return volley his opponent was sure to fire in response. His shots were aimed at his opponent's gunpla's legs. His aim was to take advantage of the hazardous terrain and impede his opponent's mobility. Letting the suit succumb to the swamp instead of using outright firepower to destroy it.

As the Yojimbo moved in it tripped the Campion's own sensor. "Damn, I passed it!" Vincent said as he turned his machine to see the blurry silhouette growing quickly in the fog. Before he could think, his body reacted. The Campion's main and shield boosters were thrown into action and the Gunpla "jumped" into the air, though not without taking a hit to its left leg from the Yojimbo's attack. The legs were kicked out and their thrusters also engaged to help slow the Gunpla's fall, as it was not made for self-sustained flight, although the shot to the left leg seemed to have given its thruster trouble keeping a steady output. Vincent followed up his movement with a few shots from his rifle, firing down on the Yojimbo. One of the multipurpose launchers then popped up and fired a surprise pair of high-explosive rockets as well.

Direct hit. Too bad the machine was a lot more durable than Aida pegged it for. Oh well. Good thing he preempted raising his shield or the return volley would have peppered the Yojimbo. Most of the shots pinged off the shield leaving some nice dents in it. The shield was designed to take a beating but it wasn't any kind of special shield or anything. Which meant those rockets were going to be a problem. Aida quickly threw the Yojimbo into reverse to dodge the rocket fire. He was just fractions of a second too late to avoid the explosion completely. The rockets slammed into the ground where the Yojimbo previously was sending a cascade of earth and muck airborne. The splash of the explosion also rocked the Yojimbo sending into a spin out. Aida was quick to right the machine but the explosion was enough to tear the bottom half of its shield off.

"Tch"

Aida returned fire once more firing off another volley of beam shots at the Campion.

The Campion made a rough landing on its backside, mud and dirt splashing up from the impact, but thankfully didn't incur any serious damage. As the Campion was righted, the Yojimbo fired on it yet again. Vincent brought up the shield, protecting the machine from the incoming beam fire. Vincent felt it was time to go on the offensive. He adjusted the movable booster and shield up and forward, covering himself with two shots from the beam rifle, then started the thrusters and flew toward the Yojimbo. He fired another three shots as he attempted to close the distance.

If it was a close range battle Vince wanted it was a close range battle he was gonna get. Aida fired up the boosters on the Yojimbo and rocketed forward at max speed aiming to meet the Campion head on. With skillful dodging and weaving he avoided the volley of beam fire and even used the remains of his shield to knock one of the beams away when he couldn't dodge it in time. The shield was pretty useless now for more than that though. The shield though was really just a facade. The remains of the shield ejected away from what was revealed to be a circular charging rack for what appeared to be the hilt of a katana blade. A piece on the Yojimbo's back opened up and Aida locked the rack in place for safe keeping until he felt the time to use the Shigure blade was right. The Yojimbo's left hand was now freed up use one of its twin GN beam sabers. It reached down to hip armor and the saber's handle ejected into its waiting hand. Within mere feet of the Campion Aida ignited the emerald green blade and brought down to bear on the Campion's rifle, aiming to cut it in twain and to truly turn this into a saber duel. If he was successful he'd cast aside his own rifle and bring out the other saber just to make things fair.

Vincent was surprised, though glad, that Aida moved forward over staying put and defending himself. Just as its controller had planned, the Yojimbo's attack connected and cut the rifle from the Campion's hand. Vincent stepped back and tossed the weapon a fair distance, letting it splash and sink into a puddle of mud. The Campion the reached behind its head and drew its own saber from the backpack, then took up some sort of stance. The left leg was in front, the shield held up across the Campion's torso, and the saber stayed tucked against its side. "I like your style, fella. It's not my forte, but this aught to be much more interesting than shooting at each other all day." Vincent told Aida.

Aida's attack landed true. The sizzle of the beam saber slicing through the rifle was a satisfying melody for a well planned attack. The battle was now shifted to what Aida was good at, melee. He grinned, "Thanks, good luck." Aida said in response. Aida was nothing if not honorable and as soon as his attack finished he backed off to give his opponent time to draw and prepare for his next attack. Aida cast aside his rifle and drew his second beam saber and took up a stance as well. Minutes past before Aida pressed the attack again. He launched forward with a vicious cross slash aiming to slicing the Campion to ribbons. The thing was strong but Aida was relentless.

With the Yojimbo's speed, Vincent only barely had time to raise his shield in defense. The attack was indeed a vicious one, as the joints of the Campion's left arm were beginning to warp and weaken. Despite Vincent's ingenuity, the Campion itself was largely a straight build and didn't have quite the same levels of performance as the Yojimbo; it seemed the machine would soon reach its limit. "But I've still got a trick or two left." Vincent said to himself. Locked in blocking the Yojimbo's attack, the Campion's other multi-purpose launcher popped up and fired another pair of rockets at the ground under the Yojimbo. It was certainly a risky move, but the best option Vincent could think of in the moment.

Aida eyed a gauge on the hud for the Yojimbo. It wasn't full but it wasn't time to show that trump card yet, no, that would be saved for Matt or any other opponent who pushed him far enough to use it. Vincent here was tough, he was a good opponent, but he wasn't of the caliber that Aida felt he needed to go all out. The Yojimbo was indeed fast. Its attacks were relentless but Vince had managed to block him. A dangerous gambit, Aida was just as fast to react as his machine. The instant the multi-purpose launcher came up Aida disengaged and dodged the explosion. Had he not been faster the Yojimbo likely would have taken some serious damage. Aida grinned and chimed in over the clearing smoke and debris, "Not bad Not bad. You're pretty good. I guess I'm going to have to get a little bit serious. Apologies in advanced I'm terrible at holding back so your gunpla might get a bit broken."

Various bits of the Yojimbo's armor began to slide open revealing its RG frame underneath. Translucent blue crystalline parts with what appeared to be gear shafts and gears in them began to whir into action. The largest of these was in the lower abdomen of the Yojimbo. Blue particle emissions flowed free and the entire unit began to glow a brilliant azure blue.

"Particle Full Burst, On, 50% output. Engage" the mechanical voice of the system that regulated the Full Burst echoed from the GP base.

Aida let out a loud howl before the Yojimbo vanished, its speed more than tripled from the full burst, "NOW SHINE MY BRILLIANT BLUE GUNPLA!" The Yojimbo reappeared behind the Campion and unleashed a relentlessly string of attacks, 3 hits, 9 hits, 12 hits, the attacking didn't stop. It was massive hit chain of sword slashes that cast particle shockwaves with every swing.

Vincent's plan to surprise and cripple the Yojimbo had failed as well as it could have. The impact from the explosion destroyed the shield and finished off the crippling left arm. The Campion stumbled back, though managed to keep from falling over. Vincent was about to change his style, however it wouldn't be enough to help him defend against Aida's next attack. The Yojimbo seemingly faded from view, leaving Vincent startled and confused. There wasn't much time for that either though, as the Yojimbo was already behind the Campion, slicing away at its back. The Yojimbo continued its relentless assault while Vincent grit his teeth and instinctively tried to free his machine, though it evidently wasn't up to the task. Soon the Campion stopped responding at all. When the Yojimbo's attack had ceased, what remained of the Campion fell to the ground destroyed. A familiar explosion of pink smoke shook the field, signaling the end of the match.

BATTLE ENDED

Vincent walked around the battle system to collect the remains of his model. The damage level had been set to C, so the actual damage to the Gunpla was minimal, but it didn't matter much in this case. With the ideas he got from this battle alone rebuilding the Campion from scratch would be the better course of action anyhow. Vincent dropped the pieces in his pocket and mumbled to himself.

"To the spectator's box with me looks like. Have to say, that system was surprising. Still, it gave me some ideas for the Hlessi." Vincent looked over at Aida with a grin and gave him a short wave before moving to leave the floor.
