After walking a few paces, breathing deeply along the way Misaki anger was subsequently brushed aside. In retrospect she had really thrown a tantrum for dumb reasons, however the feeling that mere disapproval wouldn't have been enough to shake off Matteo and Alex still lingered. It wasn't anything personal against them but their overall cocky boyish attitude coupled with the frustration she felt earlier where a potent mix that resulted in that angry outburst. " Sorry about that, Sempai." She stopped her march giving Mei Ling a weak apology after that hot headed reaction when it was clear Matteo was one of her friend or acquaintances. Surely, her close friend Sia had lost to that boy, but things like that where bound to happen in a tournament. She was still going to avenge her teammate in spades when the semi finals came, though.

However someone else followed the pair of girls. That tall foreigner with the funny accent caught up to them and pondered an interesting question, clearly he was new in town. " You can go to Akihabara its about half hour walk to the North from here." Since this Australian fellow was not directly involved and after that embarrassing outburst Misaki offered proper advice as a sign of atonement. " you'll know you're there when you see the extra large signs of anime characters if you keep going trough that avenue, I dont really see the point of walking there if you'r already here. might as well wait at the line, unless you're looking for non Gundam merchandize." G-muse offered plenty of amusement for any respectable Gundam Otaku after all.

Mei-ling smiled cheerfully, shaking her head as after a while the thought of what just happened was starting to amuse her as she realized how childish the whole thing was. Leaning the boxes against her body, she reached out with a hand and patted Misaki on the head. It wasn't her fault that she got mad, though it still confused Mei-ling to no end as to why exactly the club leader had gotten so frustrated. She wondered if it was because of the wager thing.

"It's fine, Misaki. I'm sure you meant to do that." She would say, pulling her hand back to resume carrying the boxes of supplies meant for their club room.

For some reason every time Ling made a gesture like patting her head Misaki would recoil in embarrassment as if she was a stranger to affection. The girl would simply shut her eyes, squirming slightly almost as if it tickled until it her senior was done with the warm physical gestures. It was like that all the time having nothing to do with them being in public or talking to someone else.

" I even forgot to check out the new material you wanted to show me with how mad I got, I had no idea you meant all of this." With a slightly nervous expression she remembered that her senior did mention something about these supplies going straight to the club work shop. They would need to expand more after all with the on going tournament the Condor Legion received a bit of positive publicity which resulted in some of the new members joining in. " If I make it to the finals we might need to get another entire class room to accommodate all the possible new arrivals." If possible that's something she would rather avoid since Misaki was not a fan of a crowds that and managing a much larger club would lead to bigger headaches.

Forgetting about the what ifs for a moment her bright ruby gaze was directed at the gifts Ling was going to willingly donate to their cause.

Mei-ling smiled, tilting her head a bit as Misaki seemed surprised with all the things she had brought for them. It was the least she could do and for her, this was a common thing to do on a daily basis. With a nod, the young woman put down the boxes and opened up one of them, showing the club leader the World War Two model planes she had bought. When the tournament was mentioned, Mei-ling was reminded that she, Misaki, Sia and Illona had entered it. Embarrassingly, despite her best efforts she ended up with a draw on her first round; which meant no advancement on her part. Perhaps a part of the reason why she did all of this was to make up for that failure.

"Well, it is up to you in the end what you want to do with the club room. If you didn't scare away eighty percent of the applicants, I think expanding would be a great idea." She would say, pushing the crates over for Misaki to take a gander at the new inventory.

Kurtz had been looking around and agreed with the girl. Yes, there were more non-model shops in this place. "I just wanted to ask some questions but as it is very slow in de shop, I thought someone else could answer de questions about these Gundam models."

He watched the girls show off their new models, keeping quiet. Maybe he ought to leave them alone and try this Akibahara place. Kurtz pulled out his phone and saw that it was almost lunch time. Considering how crowded the mall was, it would be best to find somewhere to eat now.

"Are there any good places to eat here?" he asked them.

Among the small collection assembled by Mei Ling there where quite a few models Misaki had been curious about obtaining including a Lavochkin LA-5 with five kill marks and a musical note painted in the fuselage. an FW 190D-12 with a bizarre red and white stripe pattern on the underside which Misaki instantly recognized and last but not least an Hawker Tempest in standard RAF grey and green camouflage. " Thanks, Mei Ling I really appreciate the gesture." While it was unfortunate Misaki was the only one that made it past the first round she was glad none of the club members had to fight against each other. Or rather if she had fought Mei Ling at the tournament that would have been the end of it.

There would be other opportunities to discuss possible expansion to the club and it meant having to sponsor school events for the student council, probably some stupid carnival related stand.

" Well, it really depends what you're looking for. We're in Tokyo so you can find pretty much anything even if the prices on most locales are criminally expensive and there's long waits just to get a table. Personally i'd go to the Street Ramen Cars but not all foreigners like seafood and I dont think you came all the way from Australia or the United States to go eat at MCdonalds, so ..." Now it was the time to adress this blonde fellow questions since he was new in town and it was up to Misaki to show a little bit of common courtesy.

Mei-ling clapped her hands together and smiled, eager to help out their new foreign friend as he mentioned grabbing something to eat. There were plenty of places they could go from here, but Misaki was right in that most if not all of the more popular areas were going to be filled, though most if not all of their prices were actually quite reasonable. To herself, at least.

"I know a little place just outside the city, under one of the bridges. The owner there makes a variety of things both native and foreign," She would say bending down to pick up the boxes. "So I'm sure we'll find something that fits our new friend's tastes as well. Let's go!"

Happily, Mei-ling would lead the way, humming along.

"Okay. I'm happy to try new food. Do you need help with the boxes?" he asked, following the small girl.

"Nice to meet you, Herr Kurtz, my Name is Misaki Nakajima." It was quite unexpected to find a German here of all places, especially with so many Americans and Australians around. It seemed her capability of reading other people accents wasn't as good as she thought. " This is my Senior Xiao Mei-Ling. we're part of the a Gundam modelling club based at our school, well mine since she's in college." surely anyone would have found this little detail a bit spontaneous and immature but Misaki didnt really care at the moment.

" I always loved most things german. even know a couple of songs myself, though you might find them a bit distasteful or even offensive." People like Misaki where aware that not many German nationals where particularly fond of remembering that period of time between 1933 to 1945 which fascinated her tender little heart and imagination so much. Realizing she might have said too much the slightly anxious girl looked away focusing on following her senior to the restaurant she was leading them.

"Nice to meet you," he nodded to the girls.

"It is no more or less distasteful than the things Japan did within that same time period. Feeling shame for things which I had no control over would be stupid. De crimes of our forefathers don't transfer to de following generations so long as we have learnt from de lessons. I work at de Deutches panzermuseum. It's perfectly reasonable to be in awe of de machines and men. De difference, however, is in deciding whether the causes they fought for was just and whether they are, in their own way, victims of de men who led them. If you were a Neo-Nazi or one of those people who think Japan did nothing wrong in de war, then we'd have issues. But tanks, planes, and guns have no political views. As for songs," Kurtz shrugged, "to forget a song is to forget something vhich connected people."

"Panzerlied connects tankers in many armies. There were times in joint exercise that I saw and heard de Danish and our own panzertruppen singing it together after having spent de day pretending to kill each other. But it's a song from that time period. De French anthem is particularly militaristic and from a very shady part of its history. My point is that just because a song has a good or bad history doesn't make it a bad song. What is important is its use."

The Bundeswehr had been tackling this problem since its inception. How to remember the past martial traditions of the German people without being haunted by the specter of National Socialism. Without it, how could its soldiers, sailors and airmen have pride in themselves and the country they served? If the Bundeswehr, and Germany as a whole, shied away from acknowledging the terrible mistakes of the past then it would happen again. From the pragmatic view of the military mind, the way to do it was simple - acknowledge it, learn what worked and what didn't for the soldiers, and make sure every soldier left their political views at the door. The last thing needed was a Nazi in the Bundeswehr with the power to kill. The continuing Japanese trend of modifying textbooks, however, showed that Japan's solution differed from the German one.

" I'm not a ultra nationalist, Herr Kurtz. Our education system here in japan might shy off teaching us the crimes committed in the name of the Japanese people and the 'holy' Emperor but I assure you my generation havent forgotten and would not allow those mistakes to be repeated again. I just cant help but be fascinated by the German Martial culture that the Prussians perfected, the uniforms, the marching songs, anthems and regalia its just awe inspiring. The Wehrmacht pionered modern warfare tactics and prevailed over its enemies despite being vastly outnumbered and under equipped using proper cooperation between the army and Luftwaffe thats what I find the most inspiring of all." After all was said and done Misaki couldnt help and began singing a song Hadrian might recognize or not as they walked following Mei Ling.

"♫ Hot was the day and dark was the night
And the homeland so far away.
Ten days already the battle has raged
And there was no time to rest
Days and night the engine never stop
We assaulted and battled our way forward
Truly united with our tanker comrades
Always the first against the enemy.

Panzergrenadiere~ Vorwartz zum siege vorrant~♪"
Misaki sung as if she'd knew the lyrics all of her life, loudly and proudly yet she allowed herself to trail off maybe even letting her new friend continue where she left off.

Kurtz smiled as he listened to the familiar tune. The martial words did stir something in his breast and he began to sing along after the second line. But it was an old tune that wasn't as popular now. Modern panzergrenadiere had their own song that incorporated their own motto. Dran-Drauf-Drüber

As Misaki trailed off, so did Kurtz. "Bravo, Frau Nakajima. We have a new song now to match our motto. That one is only remembered as a historical song and played rarely. It goes like this."

Kurtz began to sing.

"It speaks to who we are today and de ethos of a modern Panzergrenadier. But yes, there is something of a pioneering streak in German military science. However, de Chinese have the classic which even Clausewitz and Jomini must bow to. Compared to Sun Tzu, we are but imitations."

Mei-ling didn't understand much of what was going on behind her, but the two seemed to be hitting it off pretty well with each other, finding common ground in a culture she had little understanding of; but now found herself respecting. If only because they had some very rousing songs. Military, perhaps. Wait, was she leading a former soldier around? Was the club leader also a former soldier? If so, she .. seemed a bit young, though Mei-ling did know a few classmates back home that were 'Cadets' in the People's Liberation Army. Military service was mandatory after all, and back home it was a proud day for any parent of any upbringing to have a son or daughter in the service. Even Mei-ling had a little exposure to that part of her culture.

She couldn't help but blush a bit as their new friend, Kurtz, mentioned the Chinese. Her own people, in the same sentence as the Germans. Compared to others, she wasn't much of a pioneer in the field of science, music or military. Any field, actually. Though, she supposed if any of her ancestors Mei-ling needed to thank for influencing the world globally, would be Sun Tzu. Turning her head back a little, she would smile at the singing pair behind her.

"We're almost there. Just past this little hobby shop's a little underpass we can walk through. He usually sets up shop with a few samples just outside."

" No disrespects but I like Classic music better. Then again I guess its wouldnt be politically correct to refer to Belgium and Poland as conquered lands in a song anymore ..."It was understandable the new Panzergrenadiere song wouldn't be as half belligerent as the original since it was written in the 1940s. Misaki was no soldier, she herself considered soldiering to be a bitter, unsavory career and she was too hot- headed, lazy and frail to be shout at by some hard-ass instructor and do push ups and other exercises until her arms fell off and died off dehydration, however she was a hardcore military otaku who idolized the Wehrmacht and the rest of Nazi Germany armed branches with the exception of the Navy. Since young age she'd been exposed to that culture and while it seemed very unladylike she still drooled all over it. Something about vehicles and weaponry designed as tools of destruction and instruments of terror just pressed all of her buttons.

" Sun Tzu didn't have any automatic firearms or Stukas." Quietly muttered the raven haired girl just in time to hear Mei Ling telling them they where close. " I remember this place. they serve this really nice pork ramen bowls." All this talking and singing really served to stir Misaki's apettite , the walk didnt help either though she would have to remember to not get pissed off anymore since she was going to ingest pork meat and didnt want to get sick thanks to her quick temper.

"Sun Tzu deals with principles of warfare und how to analyze situations. Such things are still useful in the days of panzers und jet fighters. De means of warfare may be different but de way one has to conduct still remains true. Is Sun Tzu wrong when he says that there are risks in not knowing your enemy or yourself?" Kurtz replied as they passed the hobby shop.

"That reminds me of de questions I had! Why do de Zeon suits have German names that do not relate? A Kampfer with panzerschrecks und shotguns? A Jager with a machine gun? It is very confusing."

"Umm .. well, it's an anime series, Kurtz. I guess they just thought the names fit with what the mobile suits looked like." Mei-ling would answer, tilting her head at such a strange question. At least they were almost there, she could see the little set up of tables and chairs unfolded up ahead. The smell of fragrant smoke, spices and meats wafting over towards the trio.

" Beats me! I guess its because they sound cool." Shrugged Misaki partially understanding Kurtz frustration over the mobile suits nomenclature. " In the Gelgoog Jager case the machine gun can also be fire in single shot semi automatic mode, that's all I can say on the matter really. I didn't designed them on the first place." Once they arrived at the humble restaurant the raven haired teenager picked up the best table they could find in the establishment. "I'll take the Chashu ramen with extra onions and iced tea, please." True to her word Misaki paid for Mei Lings meal as well, for her it was an honor to buy her senior lunch. As expected the ramen bowls where big, clerly one these would be more than enough for Misaki.

" I'd recommend not putting too much thoughts on their nomenclature especially if they are Zeon designs., if you're looking to get into Gunpla battle i'd just go for whatever you consider that looks cool. Hmm you might like the Dom series of mobile suits they look bulky, heavily armored and with fairly good mobility."

Kurtz paused to consider the food items. Many of the dishes seemed very heavy. He didn't even try to speak to make his order. Kurtz just pointed at the picture of a bowl of rice and pork katsu. It showed about six slivers of fried pork atop a bowl of rice, with a saucer for the katsu sauce on the side. His experience so far had shown that pointing and miming generally got him farther than trying to speak in English. Either they understood half of what he said or not at all.

"I already have a Dom which I customized. It is in my hotel room. It is easier to get Gundam kits than Gunpla battle in Germany. De more traditional sports remain very popular und schools do not sponsor it," Kurtz said to Misaki.

"But how does one tell what is good for fighting? Und I heard de 'build quality' means something too."

"Wahaa~" Mei-ling stared at her bowl of pork tonkatsu, mouth watering a bit as she contemplated how best to dig into her meal. Though she had adamantly refused Misaki's desire to pay for her meal, the club leader was a hard person to dissuade once her mind was set. It would appear the line of conversation had gone into a field she was familiar with again. That was good because she was starting to feel like an outsider with all the talk of Germany.

"Well, everything's good for fighting. Even a little Federation Ball can kick your butt if you're not careful. Fighting itself is down to the pilot, so basically if you're familiar with Gunpla controls, know basic tactics and have good know-how on how to operate your own Gunpla, you're good to go!" She would say, picking up the chopsticks next to her.

"As for build quality, it's .. basically a way to grade your Gunpla and how well it performs in simulation. The most basic is the un-customized, fresh out of the box unit. Like a newly constructed Zeon Zaku or a Federation GM that has had nothing done to it to make it unique amongst the other line models. That's the 'Standard Build' type. Next up is something like your Dom, which can be customized with a coat of paint of your choice, detail lines, decals and maybe even an LED glowing eye if that's your thing. We call that the 'Moderate Grade', where you've done some basic touch-up's with a standard kit of supplies that can be bought from any Gunpla hobby store,"

She would stop for a moment to pick up her bowl and quite modestly eat a small mouthful of pork and seasoned rice, swallowing it down with a cup of tea before continuing.

"Then we've got the next grade up which we call the 'Professional Grade', whereas you've taken it to the next level by saaay .. going the extra mile by adding in a glowing LED eye, which meant you had to get down and dirty into the internals itself and spent hours of your own time getting right. And say that coat of paint you really liked, well, you wanted to give it some battle damage, real hardcore stuff; then you went and did that, giving it bullet holes, a 'dented' exterior, maybe even replaced that standard purple heat rod with a hotshot red one. All it pretty much means is that you customized an already customized Gunpla, but took it to the next level by making it Facebook worthy."

"The next up we have is 'Scratch Grade', which is 'Professional Grade' but taking your standards even higher by say, turning the Dom into something completely different and original. Like say you replaced the head, the arms, the legs, the backpack; whichever, with parts of your own make. I mean, it's still a Dom but also a Dom that you yourself basically re-designed and made from "scratch". Which is why we call it the 'Scratch Grade'."

"And that's pretty much it .. unless you're interested in applying to the famous Gunpla Schools around Japan, you won't get much better then Scratch. Basically the more you customize a Gunpla, the more personalized it becomes, the better it'll perform .. because by the time you even get to Scratch Grade, you'll be so familiar with the in's and out's of your Gunpla; it would be impossible for you to not know in which areas it exceeds in and which areas it falters. You'd be a master by then."

Mei-ling would end her explanation with a smile as she now whole-heartedly resumed eating her bowl, leaving the two to converse by themselves for the moment.

There really was no need for Misaki to add anything to her senior perfectly clear explanation regarding Gunpla customization. Even a foreigner like Kurtz who seemingly had the basic amount of knowledge regarding crafting would be able to understand it on the simple terms Mei Ling explained it all. Surely that would do more than enough to dispel those doubts he had.

' who would post pictures of their gunpla on facebook.' As always Misaki liked to stay quiet whenever she was ingesting the delicious rammen bowl she'd gotten for herself. The rich savory soup melted her delicate taste buds, the pork meat was soft and tender but well seasoned with the combination of spices that where a trademark of this particular restaurant. The fried onions added the perfect balance of flavor leaving a pleasant after taste in her mouth as she greedily drank the soup shortly after eating all the noodles. In the end she was left satisfied after eating the entire bowl. Then and only then did she began drinking from the cup of iced tea she ordered.

Being a ' high-middle class' lass she wiped her mouth extensively all trough the duration of her meal. Despite the background the girl really wasny very picky when it came to eating food as long as it wasnt bitter Wasabi. god how much she hated bitter foods especially that hot tea they served in ceremonies. Sweets where also something she wasnt very fond off, preferring salty or sour flavors instead. Feeling in the mood for a light side dish the girl ordered some fried Shiitake mushrooms for everyone to enjoy and in case neither Kurtz nor Mei Ling wanted then it just meant more for herself. It was quite a good amount of fried mushrooms for the small price so she openly offered them to the other two older friends.
