After weeks of hard work the finished REGZ equipped with the fully customized Back Weapon System Misaki had built herself was ready to make its operational debut in a practice battle against the Coach of the Condor Legion and expert Marksman Miss Mei Ling. Today's battlefield was the pacific Island of Peleliu rendered based on the bloody campaign that took place there in 1944. The Sandy beaches where crowded with amphibious vehicles and landing craft. The land marred by craters left by explosions of all kinds of calibers. in the center of the Island the airfield had clearly been the scenery of heavy fighting as evident on the ruined state of the building and the wreck of smoldering tanks burned out with their crews still inside.

The sound effects and overall quietness was often interrupted by the crack of a rifle, followed by brief machine gun bursts that echoed far in the distance. Black curtains of smoke emerged from the ruined fortifications that where lit ablaze by flamethrowers providing some degree of artificial cover to anyone willing.

The weather forecast was Sunny with a partially clear sky. The REGZ now sported a two tone grey paintscheme all over which blended with the seamless sky very nicely. The Nose and wing tips of the Mobile armor attachment where painted yellow which was a method of identifying friend from foe in a frantic aerial dog fight. Underneath each wing hung a 3.7mm anti tank gun whose weight was so problematic the mega particle gun and two beam guns originally present on the base model had to be removed entirely.

Soaring over the battle scarred beach at a medium altitude Misaki kept an eye out further inland for any signs of the GM Sniper. She was in no hurry to get to the smoldering airfield looming over the distance, instead she pulled the nose up causing the flying machine to increase its altitude slightly. There was no need to increase the throttle since it was highly likely Mei Ling would spot the contrails left by the blazing engines in the sky.

When Misaki had inquired about the purchasing of several World War Two model planes, Mei-ling was understandably duped as to why such a request would have been made. Nevertheless she had gone along with the idea and acquired several specific models for her club leader, subsequently getting the answer to her question soon after. She'd never thought of jury-rigging modules from other models into a Gunpla before, always staying within the same field when looking for upgrades and parts. It was actually quite ingenious and feasible considering the fact many original models were made with hand-crafted parts; all very well-made and beautiful designs.

She'd never thought of Misaki as a World War Two junkie, though.

Regardless, Mei-ling had also been busy creating new parts for the GM Sniper II, delving into the area of building things from scratch on her own. The paint itself was still the same overall, a dull drab of dark brown with a light coat of black, though proper effects had been administered that showed off minor scratches and battle damage to the suit itself. A painstaking effort that took her many tries to perfect before it cooperated.

Several key differences marked the work she had gone into upgrading the GM though. Most noticeable was the addition of an extra layer of armor to the front of the suit, reinforcing the chest armor whilst adding shoulder plates to the arms for protecting the fragile limbs underneath from any stray shots. An extra, small yet thicker piece of armor was attached to the GM's left arm, sloped The backpack had been redone, removing the original for a more robust and powerful one that could hold up to the ferocity of Mei-ling's movements. Overall, the GM Sniper II had been upgraded into a Gunpla capable of long-term brawling, complimenting it's already formidable long-ranged capabilities.

Armament-wise, Mei-ling had attached a pair of wire guided missiles to the GM's right shoulder and expanded the Sniper II's modest armory with the addition of a low-powered yet highly accurate beam handgun and a minigun that looked similar to an assault rifle with three barrels linked together capable of laying down an impressive amount of fire which could perforate just about anything once it's barrels started spinning up. She'd replaced the waist mounted grenade racks with a two-tubed smoke discharger that could be used to lay down a field of concealment.

All in all, Mei-ling had learned to improve upon the Sniper's weaknesses and upgraded it according to reason and experience. She really wanted to know how to make a proper weapon that could be changed according to differing circumstances though. For now, she was content with having a plethora of weapons at her disposal as the Sniper II lay stationary under the cover of fire, smoke and rubble, it's visor clamped down as it gazed into the sky; idle whirring noises being made as adjustments were made according to the user's whim.

Practical experience taught Misaki that against Mei Ling sharpshooting there was no hiding place from medium to long distance. The few times she'd managed to get up close her senior showed no difficulty in tearing up the REGZ with swift beam saber movements either. The only advantage that laid on their side was speed, which in this scenario would do no good if the REGZ crashed against the solid ground during an attack run. No matter what Misaki couldn't afford to be shot down out of the sky, if she was to prove how much she'd improved that is. Each of the large caliber guns only held 12 rounds for a total of 24, two where fired at each pull of the trigger and so much was their recoil the entire Gunpla rumbled when both guns fired in unison. This where no normal shell, however: Each one contained a dense tungsten rod designed with the sole purpose of hunting and destroying heavy armor.

Misaki's head was on a swivel quite literary so, scanning the ravaged landscape looking for any possible sign that would give away the marksman position. The smoldering airdrome ruins seemed like the most likely spot, that or the dense jungle to the south east. At medium altitude the REGZ mobile armor flew in circle over the cross shaped air strip, hiding behind the black smoke pillars that arose from the burned out bunkers. Only the roar of the engines that kept the Gunpla in the air gave away its position as it continued its circling maneuver like a Vulture waiting for the right time to come sweeping down spreading death on its wake.

It was really just a waiting game now as Mei-ling was well aware Misaki knew how she liked to wait before dedicating to a slugging match. The first shot didn't matter as much as the fact she could seize control of the battlefield and steal the initiative from her opponent. Now Mei-ling really regretted playing war games with Sia, Illona and Misaki so much. At this point they pretty much all knew how she liked to fight. Mei-ling's patience was, as always, endless as she watched the skies above from her vantage point; turning the camera this way and that to catch a glimpse of her target.

" I knew I should have strapped some napalm bombs." Misaki was quite open admitting that the current weapon loud out on the back weapon system might not have been the best choice to flush Mei Ling's GM out of its hiding spot. Another surprise she'd prepared was an improved sensor array mounted on the nose of the mobile armor component which detected any signals that locked into itself. Such system was pretty much mandatory since it also served to aim those bulky bordkannones hanging from the wings.

a crude beep sound went off inside the holographic cockpit instantly letting her know she'd been spotted but it didn't said where. Misaki used her own judgement to deduce a likely location: a ruined bunker structure on top of a slope overseeing the airdrome. It was the perfect spot since from there the view covered most of the airfield.

Guided by her gut feeling alone Misaki commanded the flying mobile armor downwards in a steppe dive, its throttle at medium power as it flew dangerously close to the ground in an attack vector against the likely hiding spot. The two engines mounted on the feet raised a cloud of dust and debry on its wake as it approached at a speed close to 200KMPH. Once the objective was within 1500 meters Misaki pulled the trigger once . " BANG BANG." the two cannons fired in unison sending the projectiles in an erratic trajectory proper of heavy caliber shells. " BANG BANG." at 900 mts the guns roared once more rocking the grey bird of prey as it pulled up from its attack run, Misaki pushed the throttled increasing the acceleration as it flew past its objective.

Mei-ling didn't know about Misaki's situation, but she was quite frankly tired of always having to stand whilst encased within the holographic console around her. She had therefore requisitioned a chair from the local establishment and had it placed exactly where the seat would be located in a cockpit of a genuine mobile suit. It was a comfortable alternative and she wondered why they couldn't have just developed a fully encased, virtual-reality pod to accommodate the battlers with. It wouldn't be too hard to have a seat in the back for a single support team member as well. She sighed, shaking her head a bit. This really wasn't the time to criticize technical design choices.

The visor zoomed out abruptly as her sensors detected an incoming signal, closing in fast near her position. The first two shots slammed into the bunker with the force of a hammer, kicking up rubble and debris into the air, leaving two smoldering holes into the already bullet-ridden structure. The remaining shots penetrated the weakened concrete building, igniting what appeared to be ammunition, causing a spectacular explosion to happen. The Sniper II however, was unscathed, because Mei-ling had not taken the obvious spot that granted her high ground visibility. She was looking up after all.

Raising the long range beam rifle in it's hands, Mei-ling targeted the rear-end fuselage of the modified Re-GZ and pulled the trigger, letting loose a single shot towards it's destination before emerging from it's hiding spot amongst the burnt out tank wrecks. The smoke, lingering heat and charred hulls providing the camouflaged GM both cover and camouflage as it blended into the destruction around it. Having fired her single shot, she began making her way towards the jungle just East of the airfield.

" Did I get it?!" Misaki was so excited when she saw that huge explosion engulf the target area shortly after performing that near flawless strafing run. With twenty rounds left of APCR she figured it was a good investment replacing the beams that could be easily countered with specialized kinetic ammunition. At full throttle and in that climbing angle the well aimed shot from Mei Ling rifle perforated the left side wing immediately causing the flying armor to lose stability, coupled with the weight of its armament the REGZ tilted to the left and it would have rolled out of control if it wasnt for the fact Misaki hands where hard at work keeping it from doing so.

Clenching her teeth fiercely the overly confident teenager used this to her advantage, circling around for yet another attack run, since it was clear that shot had come from behind them. The REGZ in this barely flight worthy condition completed its turn and was now approaching the advancing GM sniper in that tilted angle. Undaunted, Misaki killed the throttle and lined up for a shallow 30 degree dive keeping the aiming sight as steady as she could before opening up with another salvo from its heavy guns causing two spent shells to be ejected from each one shortly afterwards. Keeping control of the machinery while aiming was very demanding work as evident on the way those small hands of hers squeezed the controls pushing in the opposite direction to prevent the Gunpla from banking out of control and praying that the gravity would not claim them as victims.

Mei-ling was half-way towards her destination when the airborne Re-GZ came barreling back for another attack run on her, this time at a dive. The right side of her screen blared red alerts as it detected an incoming signature closing down on her. Gripping the controls, she maneuvered the Sniper II into a spin and ignited it's leg vernier's, causing the subsequent propulsion to push it out of harm's way. As the two shells slammed into the ground, the first shot that would have ended the GM instead kissed dirt whilst the second shot was luckier and blew a small chunk out of the right shoulder's plating; though the original Sniper II's second layer of armor underneath the add on remained unscathed.

Holstering the long range beam rifle, the Sniper II pulled out it's new assault minigun and pointed the barrels towards the sky, trailing after the flying Re-GZ. Pressing the trigger, the barrels began slowly spinning and simultaneously spat out round after round until it gradually picked up speed as a barrage of lead went shooting up into the air in an attempt to shoot down Misaki.

The fully automatic barrage coming from the rotary cannon tore apart the Back weapon system front extensively. Before the improved sensor suite was completely thorn to pieces Misaki was able to pull the trigger once more exchanging another two heavy shells aimed at the agile sniper, shortly after that some lucky shots ripped the hard points that kept the Gunpods anchored to the wings thus reducing the weight load allowing Misaki to pull up after coming dangerously close to crash land near Mei Ling vicinity.

The entire frame was smoking and fire had broken up as it flew overhead. its wings where riddled with holes and was starting to spiral our of control with all of its control surfaces shot to hell and back. Now it was the right time to bail out as Misaki did disposing off the damaged component as the REGZ Mobile Suit descended rather gracefully using its backpack boosters to soften up the impact of landing.

The grey Gunpla turned to face the GM sniper rather dramatically as its BWS crashed against the ravaged landscape behind it, exploding violently shortly afterwards. With its beam rifle in one hand and shield in the other the grey Zeta type adopted a defensive stance with its shield raised up front. the barrel of its rifle menacingly pointing at the GM sniper.

Mei-ling smiled triumphantly as she saw the smoke pouring from the Re-GZ, happy to know that the weapon she had created from scratch was holding up performance-wise. The two shells fired from defiant Misaki went over the Sniper II, zipping past to instead hit a set of two intact oil tanks; which caused another spectacular explosion to happen behind it. A dramatic backdrop for the GM as it turned to face the Re-GZ in turn. It was a stand-off.

" I figured those bulky on board cannons wouldn't work so good against someone as agile as you, sempai." Their two Gunplas might have been locked into an intimidating stand off with their cold electronic 'eyes' staring deeply into each other and weapons at the read, however this was still a friendly sparring competition which allowed both of them to put their theories they've been worked so hard in developing to the test. From what Misaki could gather so far the ballistic trajectory of the heavy rounds was wildly unpredictable even with an advanced targeting system almost as if she was hurling a grape fruit at the target, however this was a characteristic of the original design which meant she would have to adapt to the slow rate of fire and erratic trajectory depending on the air speed and angle of attack.

Not feeling the need to maneuver since it would instantly destabilize the REGZ whole frame and thus reduce its chances of scoring a direct hit, Misaki disengaged the safety mechanism on the beam rifle firing a shot straight into the GM sniper right leg. As soon as the beam was in the air she made an aim correction pointing the barrel a few degrees to the side as if trying to predict that would be the place where her senior would maneuver next, A second shot was soon underway.

" I get the feeling the beams would give my position away when engaging an enemy at extreme ranges." For quite sometime she'd been looking for a long range weapon with similar characteristics to the 90mm sniper Ling had been using previously.

"Mmm, they do pack a lot of power, though .. perhaps it's better if you predict where your opponent will go and lead the target instead," Mei-ling would begin, igniting the backpack and thrusters under the feet of the GM to propel the suit up, tossing the assault minigun off into the distance as she unholsters the beam handgun and fires off a few preliminary shots towards the stationary Misaki. She wasn't aiming for anything in particular, just seeing how effective it would be if fired willy-nilly. "Yes, just like that .. I see you moving your rifle." She would continue afterwards as the Sniper II landed a few feet away. Misaki's beam had some effect though, shearing off a portion of the right leg's plating during that evasive manuever.

Mei Ling advise made a lot of sense, after all she'd just fired eight rounds certainly not enough to figure out the dispersion pattern at different speeds and altitudes. " I get the feeling i'll have to re-adjust the sights for shorter distances as well, I want to say 700 or 800mt for the maximum effective range. That way I wont have to worry about compensating too much for shell drop. that's a luxury when diving right on top of the target." After all those where designed for close air support in an era where the most accurate ordnance delivery method consisted of a 90° angle dive at 350 miles per hour straight to the target.

It was an unexpected surprise to see the GM carelessly toss its powerful rotary machine gun as it reached out for a portable beam handgun which was more of a last ditch weapon. or one Misaki would personally use to commit Gunpla suicide in case things got too crazy during a battle. Due to the differences in altitudes and the teenage girl over confidence the beams went over the shield impacting against the head and chest from above. " woah!" With the damaged head the signal range and overall situational awareness was drastically reduced. " I guess you cant underestimate enemy fire." At short range those low output beams had no problem burning trough the REGZ frontal-upper armor leaving white hot marks on their wake.

" Do you think this beam rifle would give my position away from long range?" Surely the beams where brightly colored as opposed to a bullet subsonic speeds, even Misaki was aware it was a rather dumb question but still felt like asking that to their coach.

Just when the GM sniper landed Misaki activated the waist rocket launchers firing a high explosive war head aimed straight at the ground to the right side of the sniper knowing that the blast radius alone would ensure some damage dealt.

Mei-ling closed an eye as the explosion engulfed the left side of the Sniper II, temporarily obscuring her vision with fire, smoke and dirt. Though the same could be said for Misaki as well. Using this to her advantage she holstered the beam handgun and unlatched the long beam rifle from the GM's backpack. Reaching back, she caught it in the Sniper's left hand and brought it up to bear. The barrel poked through the smoke, giving Misaki a moment's notice before it let loose a single beam shot towards the Re-GZ.

"It really depends. Most people by now equip their Gunpla's with beam weaponry solely because it has the potential to kill in one or two shots. Those on the receiving end know to look for the origin of the beam and extrapolate the shooter's general location." She smiled, stretching a bit as she decided to continue.

"But that's why people equip beam-resistant shields or gloss their Gunpla with it. Or they have an internal I-field or a beam shield like Sia's. If you're good, though, they won't be able to see where you shoot from because people generally look the wrong way; and by the time they do notice it, you're already somewhere else waiting for them." Mei-ling nodded, speaking from experience.

" You see thats another thing i've been meaning to ask. there's so many ways to counter beam weaponry it makes me think if other players would go back to using solid, shell based ammunition more often." The big on board cannons where meant to have the same armor piercing factor of beams without acquiring the penalties that would imply. Those sensitive ears of hers listened attentively to the next advise given by her senior: Certainly moving after every shoot was a staple tactic of every successful marksman, that meant the shooter wouldn't be mowed down by the following counter barrage.

Despite all the help and tips she'd gotten from Mei Ling in battle as well as in building and crafting, Misaki dodging capacity remained fairly undeveloped, instead she often relied too much on that shield to block attacks as evident on the way that powerful rifle shot was absorbed by the piece of defensive equipment only because she'd fixed it in this position in front of the REGZ quite sometime ago. After taking that shot it would only take one, maybe two more of those focused beam rifle shots to wear out the light ABC in the shield.

Not feeling like taking her chances at medium to long range when Mei Ling was in the sniping mood the REGZ stored its beam rifle on the back skirt hard point. Now that the manipulator limb was free it reached out for a beam saber activating its glowing yellow blade with a rather dramatic vertical swing downwards. With shield in the left hand and saber at the right Misaki pushed the throttle propelling her Gunpla forward against the dissipating blast area. The shield was poised at the front ready to absorb any counter attack as the grey Gunpla accelerated at a medium speed at ground level, its feet boosters and backpack thrusters causing a faux hover craft effect.

Once she'd reached effective range she would lower the shield in order to perform a vertical slash aimed at disarming the GM sniper by either destroying its weapon or just severing the prominent left arm.

"On occasion I've found myself using the long ninety-mil rifle when up against people that are aware of the Sniper Two's capabilities and armaments, but I also tend to use the long range beam rifle for it's power and general reliability. With both you have to account for different things, like distance, wind speed and how fast your target is moving with the rifle; where getting off that one really good shot can mean your victory or a wild game of cat and mouse."

She would pull back on her controls, igniting leg thrusters and verniers as the Sniper II began moving backwards. Mei-ling threw the rifle in front of Misaki's way, allowing it to be cleaved in half and destroyed, whereas like a small explosive it detonated in the Re-GZ's face. Using the new and improved backpack thrusters to steady herself, Mei-ling fired off one of the wire-guided missiles towards her, leading it towards it's target.

"On the other hand, with a beam rifle you rarely have to account for anything other then pointing and shooting. With some rifles, beams, whilst travelling out from the barrel, generally stay coherent until the active particles used to fire it runs out; so you can technically move the rifle slightly to correct for your mistake if you miss; though the beam itself would obviously be less powerful due to the loss of energy from when you first pulled the trigger."

" One shot one kill, Of course." Not once did Misaki dared to interrupt her senior whenever she gave any sort of advise even if it was something Misaki herself already knew. The young Japanese teenager held Mei-Ling in a very high regard, almost idolizing the simple Chinese college student. she was so much better at crafting and fighting which further made Misaki try and learn more for the sake of their club. Certainly kinetic weaponry had some advantage over beams yet the right choice depended heavily on the situation and opponent for the time being the best approach to take was mixing it up and have a variety of offensive options in order to adapt to any changes. The battlefield was always chaotic and no plan survived initial contact with the enemy.

Case in point when Mei Ling's GM hurled its rifle in the path of the beam saber slash. The beam blade 'accidentally' came in contact with the E-pac which generated an explosion that charred the frontal armor of the REGZ further leaving it wide open for the wire guided missile that slammed against the weakened side blowing the whole upper body of the grey Gunpla to hell and back not giving Misaki any time to try and counter accordingly.

BATTLE ENDED

" Thank you for the lesson, Sempai." Even after being defeated like that Misaki was still grateful for the experience, bowing her head respectfully. This match had taught her valuable lessons she was looking forward to put in practice in the future.

Mei-ling rested a hand on her waist and smiled, tilting her head to the side. "Ah ah, it's fine. I haven't taught you anything you don't already know." She would say. "Want to go get something to eat? Or drink? Let's go somewhere!" Her enthusiasm was palpable as she quickly reached over and picked up her new and improved GM, sliding it and the equipment flung about into the pouch around her hip.

" Sure thing, Sempai. food and drinks are on me this time." There was no way Misaki would have gotten mad at her senior even after getting her ass kicked like that and having her shiny new REGZ get tore to pieces. it was a good thing the damage model was kept at a low level so she picked it up safely storing it away in her case. " I learn something new with every defeat at your hands. I do have to get something positive out of it ... " Every time Misaki kept getting closer and closer but these last upgrades proved to be quite a headache, she would need to adapt to this increase in armor and firepower. As much as she wanted a rematch right away it seemed Mei Ling wanted to spend quality time having a nice meal instead of trying to murder each other in a gunpla battle, either way Misaki couldnt say no to her.
