"It's here! The semi-finals!" Announcer-san's voice seemed to pick up over the mic, with a bit of feedback echoing through the speakers.

"Through a large swath of opponents and some pretty epic and admittedly not-so-epic battles, we're finally down to the Final Four!"

The battle fields had been moved together to create two large playing platforms. The two matches would start simultaneously.

GUNPLA BATTLE COMBAT MODE, STARTUP. MODEL DAMAGE LEVEL, SET TO B.

The systems began to hum to life as the Plavsky Particles started to build up, indicating it was time to begin.

PLEASE, SET YOUR GP BASE.

"In the left corner... err, that side, there; yeah, where I'm pointing; the first field. We have Monica Patton! A foreigner with a mean laughing streak, she gets a bit way too much into battling... but hey, that's a good thing, am I right?! It surely brought about an interesting match in her last round! Hopefully we see all that energy and guts bursting forth this round, especially since her opponents prior to this semi-final match knocked each other out!"

BEGINNING PLAVSKY PARTICLE DISPERSAL... FIELD 6, CAVERNS. PLEASE SET YOUR GUNPLA.

"In the right corner of the first field, we have Tsukuro Aida; otherwise known as the Black Dog! Aida is getting his game back on after a brief disappearance from the Gunpla scene and he's sure shown that his skills haven't rusted at all! Despite being a national contender, this is actually his first time in the Beginner's Tournament! Good luck to you, Black Dog!" with the audience cheering in the background and many howls heard, Announcer-san pointed her mic out towards Aida.

BATTLE START.

The Semifinals. Monica couldn't exactly say she didn't belong here, but she was definitely surprised she had made it this far. She hadn't expected her previous opponent to be outmaneuvered by the EXAM system so completely, never mind the luck of earning a by round in the tournament from the next bracket over having a double knockout. Not that Monica wasn't glad for it- The spare time really let Keo take her time with the repairs to the Astray FENRIR, which Monica was still apologizing for taking so much damage with in her last match. Still, it just meant that Monica had to show that she really did belong, and that she wasn't here based on cheap tricks but because of her skill. Whether she won or lost... She was going to be damn sure that she gave a fight worth watching.

When Monica set the Astray FENRIR on her GP Base, the field that showed up brought a smirk to her face. Caverns, the polar opposite of the vast emptiness of space. Plenty of narrow passages and natural cover for her to make use of. Short of getting Forest or City, this was the most familiar kind of field Monica could get.

"Alright then," Monica said to herself as she took the controls in hand. "Time to show why the Airsoft crowd know me as Monica the Galeforce! Astray FENRIR, Let's roll!"

The semi-finals... this was the real deal now. Aida approached the arena to his name being chanted and the howls of a crowd whipped into a frenzy. This took him back, it really did. He wasn't quite as confident in his battling skills as he was now back then but he had his sister then with him. Now he was here, alone. Yet he could feel his sister in spirit. She built the frame of the Yojimbo and created the Full Burst System. None of his opponents could match the azure blue colored power of the burst, none yet anyway. He had hoped that he wouldn't have to go up against the Astray FENRIR and that Monica would have been knocked out by now. Sadly that wasn't the case. After his match against the Campion he managed to sneak a look at the tail end of her match and what he saw scared him. The FENRIR was capable of matching the Yojimbo and he knew that. If he were the same as he was back when this tourney started he'd be terrified out of his mind.

Rena though lit a fire in him. It raged and burned and consumed his soul in passionate heat. He wasn't going to screw around any longer. He was going to be serious about this from the start. That meant casting aside the Yojimbo's weapons outside of the Shigure blade in order to optimize plavisky flow directly to the magnificent weapon. Capable of causing particle shock from its mere unsheathing it was, without a doubt, the strongest tool in his arsenal. He had never used it with the burst though. In this match he had a feeling the effects of triggering the burst while the blade was drawn would be tested. The sheer density of the blade's particles and the way the burst worked... the whole stadium would probably feel its effects.

Good.

Aida stepped up to the field and set his GP base. He cast Monica a casual glance before turning to he Announcer and flashing her a somewhat flirty smile, "Thanks Announcer-san. Maybe we should go out some time eh?" he was only half joking about it. He really did appreciate the white haired announcer girl hyping the crowd up. It made him feel much better about this.

Aida set the Yojimbo down and smiled, "Tsukuro Aida, G-Exia Yo!Jim!Bo! Let's Hunt!" Aida launched with his blue MS into the depths of the caves. It was eerily quiet. Monica had likely launched in a different part of the caves and it would take awhile for her to find him.

"Well then let's make it a bit easier shall we?" In addition to removing all the weapons on the suit save the shigure blade he also, in between rounds, swapped the Yojimbo's face plate out for a clear one shaped like a samurai menpo mask. It showed the blackened left side of the suit's frame where Rena's final rifle shot blasted the Yojimbo's face plate off and charred its jaw. Additionally he removed the sheath of the shigure blade from the shield and fastened it to the unit's skirt armor. In one swift motion Aida drew the blade and almost immediately the area lit up like a Christmas tree. The blade produced enough particle flow in its forming that parts of the cave started to crumble from its sheer force of presence alone. More than enough to make the unit show up on radar.

"Alright Galeforce! Come and taste my brilliant blue fang!"

Monica had opted for a more cautious approach durring this match, corner-peeking around the caverns' twists and turns before moving further, slipping behind cover whenever given the chance, keeping an ear out for proximity alerts, and so on. The caves were big, but not so much that it would take the whole match to find someone, even if both people were being stealthy.

Which, as Monica noticed, her opponent was most certainly not.

Even without the bright christmas lights, the massive fire output had the Yojimbo show up on the radar like a white-hooded jackass in the middle of a Black Panther rally. "The central cave chamber, huh..." Monica muttered to herself, matching the radar blip up with the minimap and the tunnels around her. "Well, guess that takes the guesswork out of where they are..."

It only took a few moments before Monica could find a tunnel that let out into the main chamber. When she peeked around the exit, she saw her opponent, standing amidst what could best be described as an ocean of Plavsky particles. Monica sighed a bit in relief as she realized the Yojimbo was facing more away from her than towards- With some luck, she might be able to score first blood and net herself a slight advantage. Taking aim with the Beam Rifle and the two railguns, Monica fired a trio of shots from the Beam Rifle as well as a shot from both railguns before darting back into the caves, hugging the wall as she moved for cover.

"Aight, now, let's see what kind of answer you've got to this..."

Speed was of the utmost importance in this battle. The Yojimbo was under equipped in order to maximize the power output of the shigure blade. For him to prevail he needed to use that speed of his to his advantage. His opponent vastly under estimating said speed helped a bit too. Even with his back turned Aida wasn't defenseless. The Yojimbo's sensors alerted him to the approaching presence of his opponent. Just in time the storm of plavisky particles solidified and formed into the true shape of the shigure blade. The sword's true nature was of an energy blade bound inside a containment field. It compressed the energy millions of times over much like folding steel into a true katana. Impossibly sharp and durable it was fully capable of doing incredible things.

Things like bouncing a beam rifle shot away from Aida.

Aida was in full alert the moment he heard the sound of the rifle's discharge. The Yojimbo moved with peerless speed and grace. As it did Aida spun around and, with a twist of his wrist, span the Shigure blade and deflected one of the beam rifle shots haphazardly into the cavern wall near the tunnel Monica was being a camper in it. The shot exploded a bit of the rock wall sending debris tumbling to the floor bellow. The railgun shots sizzled the air dangerously close to the Yojimbo. If he had been fractions of a second slower the Yojimbo would have taken serious damage. As it was now the shots did little more than peel the paint job on the unit's left side and hit the ground where it was once standing.

Aida took a deep breath.

The central chamber had gone dark now without the ocean of plavisky particles surging within it. Now this battleground was lit only by the glow of the shigure blade and the eye lights of the Yojimbo.

As Monica thrust through the tunnels, kicking off the walls to gain extra speed with little more energy wasted on the maneuver, she had kept an ear out for the sound of explosions. The only one she heard was too close to have been from the opponent, meaning that her attack hadn't had any real effect. It didn't look particularly heavily armored... Did it detect her fire coming? Well then, potshots weren't going to make a difference here. Luring the opponent after her didn't seem to work, either, though one would think that a Gunpla that had been stripped of all its long range weapons would want to move into an area that forced close combat anyways. Was her opponent trying to do something in that main chamber instead...?

Well, regardless, this match wasn't going to end any time soon if Monica stuck to just taking pot shots from the tunnel entrances. Time to make a more dynamic entry.

As Monica came to another entrance to the main cavern chamber, she noticed it was nearly on the opposite side of the chamber, at what had been her opponent's 7 O'Clock. Good, it meant her opponent had to take more time to react. Monica took aim at the Yojimbo with her Beam Rifle and fired off another three shot volley, before kicking hard off the lip of the tunnel entrance towards the Yojimbo. While moving in, she reached with the Astray FENRIR's free hand for a Beam Saber, keeping her hand on it but not drawing just yet as she fired both railguns at the Yojimbo's center mass as well. That big-ass blade looked all intimidating, but that didn't mean she couldn't defend against it when it came her direction.

In this battle if there was one thing Aida had as an advantage it was speed. The Yojimbo wasn't designed to take hits it was designed to avoid them with minimal effort. While it was off the medium weight class the Yojimbo's unique internal workings afforded it a surprising among of thrust and power. It could move much quicker than it initially appeared. Even without activating the burst most projectile attacks were useless against it so long as it had enough range and time to dodge them. That often meant getting up close where the Yojimbo was far more dangerous and aiming became much harder for the opponent. Getting in to close range combat with it was a catch 22 for the opponent and Aida himself. The Yojimbo had fractions of a second to dodge when in that range but a single well aimed strike from the blue MS could cripple. It was the deadly dance that Aida favored.

He was on high alert now. The opponent could come from anywhere at any time. So before he could get shot at again he moved to a different end of the cavern where he could see every entrance. Putting his back to the wall Aida scanned the cavern and waited. He wasn't going to get ambushed again. Of that he was sure.

His opponent was quiet though. She managed to approach him when his glance was elsewhere and fire off a volley of beams. No time to dodge, just act. Aida drove the shigure blade downward and ripped up a massive chunk of the cavern floor to soak up some of the damage from the beams and deaden their impact on the MS itself. The beams crashed in and blasted apart the stone before slamming into the Yojimbo. Bits of the unit's armor cracked but managed to hold out. Aida breathed a sigh of relief. He couldn't take too many nasty hits like that. So when Monica came thrusting out from the tunnels ready for round three Aida was already moving to dodge the next round of fire. Those railgun blasts would be troublesome. They weren't just quick and large, but their sheer output and damage via area of effect required insane reflexes to dodge. Every time he did dodge them it would always be a near hit, the air they traveled through alone was hot enough to peel and singe the Yojimbo's armor. Nasty.

Monica was coming at him now ready to engage in close quarters combat. Aida was ready now, he drove the shigure blade downward again and sliced sending a wave of rocks and debris up before following up with a rising slash to send some of the rocks flying at Monica as makeshift projectiles. Aida eyed his particle gauge. Perfect, it was almost time to take this fight to the next level.

Monica was glad she kept the Astray FENRIR's hand on the beam saber as she drew it at the sight of the incoming cavern debris, igniting it and bringing it out in front of the FENRIR before having the suit's wrist spin about. The saber, spinning around like a helicopter blade, knocked away the larger debris and outright vaporized the smaller chunks, keeping Monica safe from the incoming attack.

"Come on, now, the best you've got is throwing dirt?" Monica shouted as she stopped spinning the beam saber about and took aim with the beam rifle at the Yojimbo's center mass once again. " You wouldn't have made it this far if you couldn't really fight, so come on, show me what you've got!"

Monica fired off three shots from the beam rifle in rapid succession before suddenly deking left, circling about for a few meters before opening fire with the right railgun, again aimed at the Yojimbo's center mass. What ever special tricks the Yojimbo had in store, Monica needed to be sure she was in a position to limit their effectiveness when they did come out, and the best way she could do that now is to keep her opponent as overwhelmed as possible.

This. This is what he lived for. It had been a long time since he felt this thrill. Too long. The battles before paled in comparison to the one Monica was giving him now. His battle senses were strained to their limit. His blood was pumping. This feeling of being near "death" at all times... this is what made feel truly alive! Aida abandoned his initial plan to activate the burst now. Monica, she demanded nothing but the upper limits of his power and that meant keeping a lid on it and exorcising restraint until the time was right to use it. Of course that also meant taking some hits. As long as its internals remained intact Aida was more than capable of performing repairs to the Yojimbo. Its outer armor was just a shell for the true beast inside anyway. So fuck it let's get crazy!

Aida let out a wild peel of laughter as the beam shots impacted the Yojimbo, shattering its shoulder armor completely revealing the smaller, translucent blue, armor underneath. The under armor that protected the receptors for particle absorption had tiny gears visible inside them that span slowly and passively spurred on the consumption of particles. "Aw come on now, don't you know its better to take it slow? You got to warm up before you start the main event!"

Once more Aida used the speed of the Yojimbo to zip out of the way of the incoming railgun blast. He also used the speed to close the gap between the two machines in seconds. The sheer thruster output of the Yojimbo was frightening. It crossed almost the entire cavern to get right in the Astray FENRIR's face. Now Monica was going to learn its speed applied to more than just its movement. Aida swung the shigure blade in a nasty cross slash aimed at the Astray's railguns. It was about time he took those things out and evened this battle up. The sheer speed and velocity of the blade made the air around it just as deadly as the blade itself. Aida was prepared to react to anything this machine threw at him. His senses were pushed to the extreme. This was the deadly close range dance that formed the core of Aida's fighting style.

And he couldn't be happier.

Monica whistled in surprise when she saw the second layer of armor underneath the Yojimbo's broken shoulder armor. "Ablative armoring! Well now, aren't we a bag of tricks~?" The tone of Monica's response wasn't exactly one of admiration, but it certainly was a kind of giddy approval that would have contrasted the usual reaction of anger or frustration. The giddyness certainly exploded into full-blown laughter following her opponent's comment though. "Pfft-ha! Slow? Now where's the fun in going slow? Come on, hurry up now, show me what you can do! Don't keep me waiting, hurry!"

And hurry the Yojimbo did- As the Yojimbo closed in, Monica leaned slightly forward and brought the beam saber back and low before bringing the tip to point towards the Yojimbo. By all means, the Yojimbo WAS fast, and it certainly would have overwhelmed most other Gunpla and fighters. But there was a reason that Monica was called the Galeforce.

Monica didn't even bother to try to stop the Yojimbo from claiming the railguns, instead practically offering them to the Yojimbo. As the two guns were severed from the pack, Monica brought the Beam Saber up, thrusting up into the Yojimbo's chest just after the halfway point into its second slash of the cross slash, sliding in just enough that if the Yojimbo tried to counter by following up with a third slash, the Astra FENRIR would be in too close to actually strike with the blade.

"Oh, and thanks for trimming the weight."

Monica immediately slammed the thrusters, launching the Astray FENRIR into the air just above the Yojimbo, moving close to if not the same speed that the Yojimbo had approached before, firing down a trio of shots from the beam rifle before spinning about and thrustinging back downwards, arcing off behind the Yojimbo before going into a rolling slash, aiming to hit the Yojimbo with a flyby strike or two on the way back down.

"What and ruin the surprise? I would never!" Aida teased back. It was all in good fun but that didn't change the fact that for the first time in this match Monica truly and honestly got him. If Aida wasn't straining his senses to the max, ready to dodge, then that sneak attack during his attack with the beam saber may have done lethal damage to the Yojimbo considering it was aimed right at the unit's core where its core drive was located. Aida shifted just enough that the blade instead pierced lower, ripping into its side armor and coming out the back without hitting anything vital. The inner workings of the Yojimbo was designed like a human skeleton almost outside of a few gears and doodads. Thanks to some quick movements Aida prevented a catastrophe and instead would just have to work a bit harder after the match to patch the unit up.

Aida was continuing to move back when the FENRIR slammed on the thrusters and jetted up before firing on the Yojimbo. Aida quickly used the same tactic he had before, slicing up the ground and raising an earthen barrier to block the shots. Aida was a lot more through with this one so it managed to soak up the shots without them bursting through the earthen wall. Aida breathed a sigh of relief at that one. He didn't have much time left to breath though because Monica went right back on the offense, not content to wait to see if the beams did anything. Aida had no choice but to guard against the fly by strike.

Monica was moving quick now though. It seemed like she was really getting into it. With deft strokes Aida blocked the second strike of her three hit motion with the flat of the shigure blade. The third and final strike was blocked as well. Aida went on the offensive, stepping in wards and bringing down a beefy overhead slash down on the Astray Fenrir, aiming to slice its left arm clean off. Just a little more Aida thought. Just a little further. How far could he really go? Should he push it all the way? Three minutes, that's all the system needed to be fully charged. Could he hold out that long or should he use the burst at its 75% charge? Would using anything but his upper limits be enough to take Monica down? At this point even the usually cool and confident Aida wasn't sure.

As Monica came out of her roll, she twisted the Astray FENRIR back around to see the Yojimbo step in and begin its overhead slash. It heemed her opponent was finally ready to start fighting back for real... But at this point, Monica already had the match set to her rhythm. She brought the beam saber up to block the incoming slash, tilting the saber heavily downwards, forcing the Shigure blade to skip off the beam saber's length and off to the side, away from the Astray FENRIR. With a flick of her Gunpla's wrist, Monica then brought her own beam saber down, aiming to cleave the Yojimbo from shoulder to hip.

"Come on, come on! Don't bore me with some waiting game, show me!"

The moment Monica completed her slash, she transitioned into a slight roll before giving the thrusters a rough tap, causing the Astray FENRIR to effectively backdash before Monica opened fire on the Yojimbo with a volley of beam rifle fire, before dashing back in a clockwise spiral pattern. As soon as she could reach, Monica lunged out with a thrust of the beam saber, aiming to skewer the Yojimbo's head with it.

"Hurry, show me what you've got, what you can do! Come on, come on, hurry!"

If there was one thing that Aida had going in his favor this whole fight it was his own confidence and skill in his sword hand. When he attacked Monica with his brutal falling slash he fully expected to be repelled and countered. No matter how much he seemed to commit to an attack Aida had yet to truly go on the offensive. That was the thing about him. For as much as he seemed to lose himself in the battle every action he took was calculated. So when his sword bounced back it didn't take him long at all to recover and deflect Monica's own slash. Instead of a guard though Aida used a rising parry to knock her blade away. Monica was a cagey one like he was. Her entire attack philosophy this fight had been to try and overwhelm him and force him into a pure defensive position. When she went for her initial fly by strike with her beam saber she gave Aida the time to breath and go on the offensive. That had been the one mistake she made this entire match. Aida wanted to fight her again some day when they both were stronger.

Monica had done a number on the Yojimbo, even he had to admit that. She was relentless. No matter what the Yojimbo wasn't going to be 100% for the finals, if he even made it that far, so it was time to stop even trying. Aida didn't bother to block or dodge the beam strikes. They slammed into the Yojimbo breaking off more of its armor and exposing the RG frame underneath and its inner workings. Aida knew that he could fix anything short of damage done to the core drive itself. Well "fix" in this case meaning mitigate the damage so that the Yojimbo was functional. He had some spare parts for the unit to replace any lost extremities but damage to the torso was much trickier.

If this went on any further the more risk there was of exactly that happening. So now it was time to get crazy.

For the second time in the match Monica made a mistake, that thrusting attack aimed at the Yojimbo's head. It was coming in hard and fast but the Yojimbo was faster still in its movements. Aida shifted and intercepted the slash with the Yojimbo's left hand. He allowed the saber to pierce straight through giving him the opportunity to grip down on the Astray FENRIR's arm and halt its movement. "Alright Monica, let's see how you like my fangs! Blaze and burn brilliantly my azure gunpla! Full Burst activate!"

All limiters removed. Safeties offline. Full Burst System Enage. The mechanical voice rang out from Aida's GP base.

A swell of plavisky particles surged forth like a tidal wave from around the Yojimbo. This was the unit's true power. He had displayed the 25% and 50% burst before in the tournament but this was the true upper limits of the burst. The 75% Burst was a beast that accelerated the unit by more than double that of the Trans-AM burst. The Yojimbo's armor creaked and cracked under the strain alone. Its magnificent azure shine was almost blinding.

Aida lashed out with twin blistering strikes, a falling slash and a horizontal one both aimed to rend the Astray Fenrir in twain. He wasn't done though, Aida leaned in and launched into a second set of strikes at the Fenrir, these strikes being a set of parallel diagonal slashes running from the hip up and then back down again. Aida wasn't finished. He stepped back out and unleashed a final set of rapid fire thrusts. Each strike carrying a terrifying amount of plavisky power behind them. "Hanakenryu ~ Ohame!"

When the Yojimbo tried to grab the Astray FENRIR's arm, Monica smirked; Sure, most people wouldn't be able to react fast enough or make the decisions needed to slip away from a grab before it could be completed, but most people didn't have the nickname "Galeforce"... Or Monica's experience with knives. When the Yojimbo's hand reached out, Monica rolled the Astray FENRIR's arm as she let the beam saber slip from her grasp, the blade continuing forward thanks to its momentum while the Astray FENRIR began to curl to the right and just under the Yojimbo's attempted grab. Monica wasn't just turning her back on her opponent either; As soon as she had her back exposed to the Yojimbo, Monica tucked the beam rifle under her now free arm and fired off a trio of beam rifle shots to keep the Yojimbo off her just long enough to finish her turn.

The moment Monica was facing her opponent again, she heard him announce the activation of his 'Full Burst'. As the Plavsky particles poured around the Yojimbo, Monica started laughing aloud. "Yes, good! Show me your fangs, now, show me what they can do! However..." The moment Monica paused, the Astray FENRIR's eyes lit up bright red- the telltale signs of EXAM activating. "...Remember that I will bite back!"

The Yojimbo was pretty quick, indeed; The most Monica could do to stop the first two strikes was to toss her beam rifle in front of her to play decoy; It didn't last long, and was cleaved apart- but it gave Monica just enough time to draw the second beam saber in its right hand. As the second pair of slashes came in, Monica brought the beam saber up and ignited it, skipping the incoming strikes off the blade and away from the Astray FENRIR as much as possible, but still didn't prevent the Yojimbo from taking the Astray FENRIR's lower left leg from the knee down. The opponent was trying hard to turn the tides of this fight, and Monica could tell.

Now came her opponent's big mistake- the step back.

Monica knew from experience, if you have only a melee weapon and are trying to put pressure on an opponent, you had to always be approaching. A backstep like that is one thing if you have a ranged weapon to supplement it, but thrusts like this were no rifle fire. Monica made use of the break in momentum to slip low under the incoming thrusts and thrust in underneath them, pressing the Astray FENRIR's left shoulder up against the Yojimbo's chest. Without missing a beat, Monica began stabbing at the Yojimbo's lower torso, just below where the cockpit was. And then she did it again... and again... and again. And the whole time, Monica just couldn't stop laughing, not out of malice, but out of the pure ecstasy of the fun she was having right now.

What a fun match. If Aida made one true mistake it was his inability to focus on his opponents. His sites were set on Matt and Matt alone. It left him vulnerable to an upset victory like this one. He should have been more focused on the here and now instead of the future. For that he lost a great deal more than the match. The Yojimbo got shredded and he could not nothing but watch it happen. All of Monica's attacks landed and the sheer output power coursing through the Yojimbo caused a chain reaction. The machine was ripped apart from the inside out. The particle explosion was so huge that it damaged the arena itself forcing the rig to shut down.

The Yojimbo itself lay in pieces too numerous to ever fix. Aida didn't even bother to collect the bulk of them. He solemnly picked up the largest piece, a bit of the torso that contained the core drive, somehow still miraculously intact, and walked away. The look on his face said it all, he was completely and utterly crushed.
