Another day, another dollar. Hideo told himself this as he drove home from shift. He had gotten the day shift today, which would have been cool if the store wasn't on the other side of freakin' Tokyo. He'd never been out this far for work. That was the problem with being a good delivery driver: word got out about how reliable you were, and everyone and their mom wanted to task you out. "But the pay is good" he told himself, happy to be in his own car. He loved his vehicle, for which he poured his time and pride into (when not spending equal time with his Gunpla work). Getting inside the car was not only a refreshment because he owned it, but also because it typically signaled the end of the day. The drive wasn't exactly a short one, and he hated the tolls the expressway route made him pay. Worse yet; they gave incentive for using an automatic pass, which was a monthly charge. A monthly charge to use a road in one of the most crowded metropolitan areas in the world! What rubbish. Despite his need for speed, Hideo drove gently when not actively racing. He felt no need to show off, and working on one's own vehicle gave extra appreciation for the costs of wear, tear, and upkeep. His own car was a little dated, a used model given to him by his parents. A Honda, he appreciated. Still not quite the largest car company in Japan, but certainly a very good one, as it has always been. The outside of the vehicle looked simple and plain, and that's the way he liked it. He thoroughly believed in the concept of "sleeper", and preferred to keep the hi-tech stuff within the driving compartment. It was even a four-door! He liked the longer wheel-base. The vehicle, like all modern vehicles, was All-Wheel Drive capable, with material ability to switch driving type. The engine was in the front, but he hoped to get a mid-ship engine vehicle eventually. Hideo drove down one of the streets leading to the S5 Saitama Omiya Route, pausing at a light. Looking out the window, he spotted someone familiar. He recognized the guy from the tournament they were in. Pretty cool guy, he seemed. They had competed against each other, and he was spot-on with his play style. But why was he walking? Was he trying to get home? Hideo pulled over, rolling down his window. "Hiya Senpai" he said, using the honorific because he didn't remember his name. "Where ya off to? I can give you a ride if you want". |

Alex looked over his phone, checking messages as he walked along the sidewalk. "Man, what a day for me forget that I couldn't get a ride home." he said with a chuckle. Grabbing his sun glasses that were hanging from the collar of his shirt, slipping them on over his eyes. Hefting his backpack over his shoulder as he continued down, he smiled. "Nice day at least, it hasn't rained." he said with another chuckle. The sound of cars going by was normal since he was by a road. But having one slow down by him and someone shouting at him made him look over. "Hmm? Oh! Hideo Furukawa!" he said with a bit of surprise. "I was out shopping, my ride ended up not being able to pick me up." he answered Hideo while leaning on his car.He took a minute to think and answered his other question. "I don't need to go anywhere really, could just hang out with you." he laughed a bit. "What are you doing out here?" he asked in return. Edited by Arithion Ashvor, May 12 2015, 01:10 PM.

"Ah, folks buggin' out" he nodded. It was another fun part about having a car: you never had to depend on people for rides. Of course there were disadvantages to that too. "I was on-loan to one of the food joints out here. Franchise thing. Sometimes they have me run deliveries out here, sometimes closer to home. I don't mind though. The pay is very good" he smiled. He unlocked the door for Alex and gestured him inside. "I'd love to hang out with you, but we should head further into the city. I think we live in the same district, and it's kinda the sticks out here." Fortunately, the traffic was not so bad going towards the apartment, since most people were trying to leave the downtown area. Heck, if he got on the Bayshore Route, things would be even smoother. Overcrowded as Japan was, the traffic situation improved every year. "Hop on in, and tell me about your day" he smiled. "We can get something to eat when we get back to the neighborhood". |

Alex pulled himself into the vehicle and put his backpack in the back seat. "Thanks, yeah I'll go where you go." he said with a smile. "You do live just a few doors down from me, yeah." leaning back in his seat as he answers the question. "Sounds like you got a good job you got there, I'm kind of jealous." he grinned at Hideo. Relaxing back in the seat as the drive started, and he shut his eyes for a minute. "Well I was out shopping for some Gunpla parts and a kit." he crossed his arms. "I want to build a 1/144 HGUC S Gundam, it'll be my first full Gundam kit." he laughed with that statement. "I've only ever built grunt units so far, so this will be interesting." he told Hideo. "Met a few people, had a couple of battle battles against some Zeon mobile suit using scum." he said that with a bit of playfulness. Must come from his using Federation mobile suits in his battles and getting in character. "Really not much besides that, really." he smiled at Hideo. |

Hideo smiled at the compliment for his job. Given the vast labor diversity of Japan and the old-fashioned belief that you had to be a salaryman to matter, he'd most often gotten looks when he told people what he did. "S Gundam? Very nice! That thing's a beast, and I'm sure you'll build it even better" he nodded, pulling onto the S5 Saitama Omiya Route on-ramp. The first toll bridge was coming up, but his lane was clear. The only people who had to line their cars up were those paying out of pocket. Usually, these people were newcomers to the area, or didn't really frequent the route. His driving was smooth, having set the vehicle's transmission to auto-mode. Modern (and modern-ish) vehicles today were defined by their computer control. As computers improved over time, their applicability in regards to safety, reliability, and efficiency, had removed long-standing doubts in the racing community about the use of automatic-based systems. Granted, he could switch to manual shifting mode, which was very effective thanks to an increase in control. Hideo only used this feature for racing, however, and for smooth leisurely driving, preferred to keep things simple. "I woulda had my HGUC GM High Boost displayed on the dash, but it's at the pad for some touch-ups" he smiled. "That's why I bought the base. I found a way to mount it to the center dash, and use it to measure G-force acting on the car when I make a run". As technical as that might sound, it was simply a matter of weight control, lubrication, and an understanding of motion. Better than having a cup of water in the cup-holder, anyway. "You know, I see what you mean when it comes to Zeon mobile suits. They're powerful, but I was just never a fan of the designs, save a few. You got a fave series?" he asked, accelerating a bit to move into the express-lane. |

Alex sat back, arms crossed as he thought for a minute. "I got some ideas for the S Gundam, but I'll stick to the base kit for now." he looked over to Hideo as he was driving. "Heh, you are your vehicle. Just never understood the love between a man and his four wheeled companion." he told him. Alex wasn't a racer or car guy like Hideo was. Just one of those interests he never really picked up as he grew up. He listened to his talking about the G-forces and nodded. "Good to see someone able to use a plastic model kit for something other then a sports game." he chuckled at the comment. "I'm just a Earth Federation kind of guy." he answered with a shrug. "From the early RGM-79 GM, to the highly advanced RGM-89 Jegan." he said. It was really that simple, no real series was a favorite to him. "Though I have been leaning towards the Titans a bit more." he chuckled and looked to Hideo. "Does that make me a bad person?" he asked. |

Hideo laughed aloud at that one. The UC storyline wasn't his number-one favorite of the series, but he had a good grasp of it. Several key points, such as the One-Week War, fascinated him especially. "If I remember correctly, the Titans were the result of, like, the Federation getting nipped by Zeon remnants" he gestured, speeding up a bit to pass a few cars. He was almost at the meat of the expressway strip, and unbeknownst to him, something wicked his way came... or was going... whatever. "Kinda like putting down an insurgency once and for all. Zeon, on the other hand, just started gassing colonies and dropping them on Earth. Can't beat that kinda inhumanity" he chuckled. Then again, even in the story, quite a lot of Zeon and Zeon sympathizers were against such drastic, murderous methods of action. "Wish I coulda entered that one beginners' tournament" he sighed. "My Gunpla wasn't ready in time, and I don't think it grades high enough. I don't have any battles or experience with the GM yet either." |

Alex looked to Hideo. "The Titans formed partly because of a conspiracy behind the scenes to dominate the Zeon. Though it didn't help that the Zeons tried to spark war once again." he took note of the actions he was explaining. "Stealing a nuke and using it destroy one third of the Federation fleet at Solomon, followed by another colony drop." he clicked his teeth. "Thus the Titans decided a stronger hand was required to keep the Zeon in check." he said and rested his hands on his lap. "But like all with power, it corrupts and twists you if you taint it with evil." he sighed. "As for the tournament? Maybe next time, I don't think I am experienced enough for that." he smiled. "However I'm getting better." he said and then blinked. "Oh right, I've got a date tomorrow I guess." he said and got a light blush. "The store I got the S Gundam from, I met a cute girl there." he said, and oh boy could you see a bit of lovestruck in him. "Cute, smart, loves Gunpla. Do you think love at first sight exists?" he looked at Hideo, most likely to reassure he wasn't completely crazy. |

Up until now, most of the vehicle functions were automatic. Even the display screen showed their absolute location, tracking off of many satellites to give a resolution so good that the car could drive itself if it wanted to. Of course, Hideo never used this feature fully. Like an Operator who kept their weapon at the low-ready, he too saw the need for eternal vigilance. He nodded at the explanation Alex gave, then grinned as he went on to detail more amorous ventures. "Woaaah, lover-boy" he laughed. "Ya gotta tell me what she looks like first" he smiled, looking at the screen. About 20 minutes before they reached their home area. By now the sky was dim, and the wolves among the sheep began to show their fur. He'd seen a few racers about, but none in the mood to strike. "Love at first sight? This is Japan, my friend. Everyone wants a Waifu. And she does Gunpla? Sounds like a keeper to me" he agreed. Hideo was about to wax poetic on love when he saw something strange in his rear-view mirror. "What's this?" he asked himself aloud. He glanced behind him again, spotting what looked like a car, but with something... different? Red Comet Picture 1 Red Comet Picture 2 "Dude...DUDE! Haha, look man, someone did their ride to look like the Red Comet. Mono-eye, fin, and everything!" he piped. With a few deft movements of his hands, the onboard computer began to track the incoming car, which was holding steady about two car-lengths behind him. "What say you? Shall we speed up, see if they can hang?" he asked, glancing over at Alex. |

Alex rubbed his neck and chuckled. "Come on now, you ever just met a girl you clicked with right away?" he asked Hideo and looked over. "She is kind of short with blond hair and a cute smile." he described Yuuka and smiled. Of course after that he kind of got quiet for the rest of the twenty minutes, a bit embarrassed. "Yeah we have a battle tomorrow, I'm looking forward to it." he chuckled. When Hideo was busy looking at the Red Comet car, he looked over as well. "How much you want to bet he is wearing a mask?" he said with a grin and looked to Hideo. "I say we go for it, but it might be three times the average speed." he cracked the quote and gave a thumbs up. |

"Well, she might be a keeper. I've been smitten with a girl at first sight before" he remembered, picking up pace with the vehicle. It continued to stay a few car lengths behind his. "I hope it goes well, man. I won't drive too fast" he added, winking at Alex. Strangely enough, he couldn't see the driver of the car. The windows were a bit tinted, but it was more so the darkening sky that prevented identification. The car's computer gave a beep, and the screen displayed a readout. Typically, cars these days had the option of gathering data from other vehicles. Most people preferred privacy, so any data requests could be jammed, or truncated, depending on how the driver felt. In the racing world, to challenge or be challenged by someone and send incomplete data to them was seen in two ways: the first was that the driver who'd gotten the request was too new or inexperienced, and thus worried. Nothing was wrong with that, really. The second was a sort of "insult". It could be done by racers who wanted to convey the message of "yeah, you ain't worth my effort and time". The latter was the one you had to worry about, and of course, the one most paranoid racers considered. Hideo accelerated, the sights and lights in front of him blurring a bit. There were less cars on this stretch of expressway, and that suited him just fine. He grinned and chuckled, but stopped abruptly when he looked behind him. The rival cars' mono-eye flashed. The flash made Hideo catch his own breath. He could barely utter a question of surprise before the car behind him suddenly roared, smoothly moving to his left, then past him. For a brief moment, he saw a silhouette at the side-window, but not much else. The red comet car passed him completely, then sped off ahead, going double what Hideo's car was going. He knew he could not catch them. He could not play chaser. Hideo slowly went back down to normal speed, his face a look of shock as he watched the red taillights of the red comet car blur into the distance. After what seemed like an hour, his computer screen lit up with an incoming message. He automatically accepted it, his hands shaking a little, but his movements slow. The message displayed this: What's the difference between us? |

Alex was nodding in return to Hideo, however when he got the warning about too fast he smiled. "Wait..are you about race this guy?" Alex asked as he sat in his seat, looking around. "You aren't serious are you?" he asked, to be proven wrong. As the car accelerated, Alex braced himself in the seat, watching Hideo with a bit of a confused look. He wasn't a racer, so he didn't quite get it why it was a challenge. He would glance back at Hideo, then back to the other Red Comet and try to piece it together. He was about to give a thumbs up to Hideo, though the flash he caught in the rear view mirror changed his mind. That was then the Red Comet had decided to speed past and he watched Hideo. He watched it speed off till it was just a pair of tail lights, and he rubbed his hair in confusion. "Hey you alright?" he asked him, really quite perplexed about the entire thing. Of course it didn't help when later on the computer screen put up a message and he watched Hideo look at it. "Did you know that person in the Red vehicle?" he asked. |

"Nah man... I don't have any idea who that was" Hideo said. His voice sounded distant, and he kept looking between the message and the distant road slowly. He felt as if he didn't understand something, or that he didn't comprehend what just happened. This wasn't from a racer win-lose point of view, no, but rather trying to understand the unknown. He pulled onto the off-ramp as they made it to their apartment area, and he eventually turned to Alex and smiled. "Sorry about that, got a little mixed up there. I guess I get quiet when deep in thought, but don't worry we weren't gonna crash" he laughed. "Any place around here you wanna eat at?" he said, pulling into his parking space. Inside him, the excitement had died down, and his curiosity would have to be put on the back-burner. Hideo was a social person, and he couldn't let the unknown spook him like that. |

Alex sat there and listened to Hideo with a nod. Smiling he sat forward and rested his hands on his knees. "Well, don't worry about it." he said. He got a smile and would rub his chin as he thought. "A ramen stand I guess would be a good place to eat." he then got a grin and pointed at Hideo. "You know of any good places nearby?" he asked."Then after we eat I know what we could do to cheer you up." he told Hideo. He grinned and gave a thumbs up. "We could go have a Gunpla battle." he said.

Hideo put the car in park and looked at his lap, remembering the good ramen they had around here. He knew it would hit the spot, and looked up to smile at Alex. "Ramen is good. There's that one shop two blocks down. I like it because they have the normal seating area, not just those stools. I know it's contrary to the Japanese experience but damn it I like comfort when eating" he smiled. He got out of the car and closed the door, locking both once Alex got out too. "Gunpla battle sounds nice. I've been meaning to give my gunpla its first hard knock." He placed his keys in his pocket, walking leisurely with Alex. Hideo figured that he was comfortable enough around him to ask some more personal questions. "So, you're American, aren't ya?" he asked. |

Alex nodded, listening to the description and he got a grin. "Oh yeah? Perfect, lets head on over then." he said. Following Hideo out of the vehicle and tucking his hands in his pocket. "I figured a battle might cheer you up. You haven't gotten a chance to break the new unit in?" he answered, then asked Hideo a question. Looking around, Alex smiled as he got asked a question. "Yep, a one hundred percent pure..well as much as I can be." he answered and returned with a curious question. "Why you ask?" |

Hideo quickly remembered every detail of the gunpla he made, having run simulations in his mind and in some cases battle simulations. He had never put the High Boost into full effort though, and now was as good a time as any. "It should. Yeah, I've never really tried to break it in, considering I'm pretty much a newcomer. To be honest, I've only ever competed against others in generic gunplas, like at a friends house or something." As for food, Hideo was indeed hungry, but he hated ramen. The place they were going to had other dishes of course, like tonkatsu, udon, and the like. But he didn't want to seem like a picky eater to his guest. "Ah, was curious. I knew off the bat you were foreign, and I've seen enough Americans to figure one when I meet them" he chuckled, elbowing him playfully. "What's it like over there? I follow their car scene pretty well, and they make powerful vehicles." |

Crossing his arms as they walked, Alex looked over. "I've had my battles, though my GM Quel isn't fairing as I thought it would." he snicked. "Maybe because I'm not piloting it well enough." he added. He kept looking at Hideo, "I think I'm going to get a standard beef bowl, how about you?" he asked Hideo. "Also generic Gunpla are not to be underestimated, two of those I fought today were generic and fought me till we tied." he grinned, adding on. "Well maybe I went a bit too easy." "My terrible Japanese and American manners are a dead give away." he chuckled, pointing out such things. He rubs his side when he gets elbowed with a grin. "Loud, sometimes crazy.." his hands slipped into his pockets. "Fast food every few blocks, the area I lived in was full of retired and old people. So I'd say it was quiet for the most part?" |

"Ah, quiet huh? I never really gave much thought to national stereotypes, so that makes sense" Hideo said. They reached the food place and he picked a small picnic table under an open umbrella. Because it was dark, it had a small light under it. The air was warm, so it was more comfortable than usual. "I'll get a beef bowl as well" he said, signaling to the host what he wanted. The host nodded and brought them water and such while they waited. "So... know any hotties? From the tournaments you've been in, I mean" he chuckled. |

"Oh I'm sure some of those stereotypes are true, just not in the area I lived." Alex chuckled and smiled waiting for his order to show up. "Tournaments I've been in?" he looked at Hideo with a puzzled look. "I've never joined any tournaments personally, I'm not that competitive." he shrugs and pats his gunpla pouch. "I'm not ready for tournaments, honestly." he was being honest. It just wasn't in him to be that competitive, he just wanted to have fun. "The only hottie I know is Yuuka." he blushed and smiled. He most surely looked love struck as he rested his head on his arms. "I already told you about her, but she is just so cute.." he was talking, just babbling like a lovestruck fool at this point. |
