Hideo thought about what he said regarding tournaments, and it somewhat saddened him. The way he understood it, tournaments were competitive, yes, but hardly definitive. As with most sports, leagues, and competitive systems, different organizations ran variations of each. Some competed against others, while some were stand-alone. Some sought prestige as being the best, while others were content with being high-ranked. Even with champions, there was always debate as to who was, is, and will be better. The racing world was no different, he knew. Illegal, amateur, or professional, there was always many schools of thought and competition. He figured that was how it should be. Competition trained a person to be the best they could be. Sitting at the top peak of success bred complacency.

"Aw, don't say that" he smiled as their food arrived. He dug in slowly, minding his manners. "I know locally that beginner's tournament is just one of many. Tournaments are a great place to make friends, rivals, and experience, so we should get you motivated to play" he added. "What about Yuuka? Is she in tournaments?"

"I don't know, guess I'm just worried about winning being the only focus in tournaments." he was honest, but really just confused about it. His food arrived and he started helping himself, with a sigh. "What if you lose sight of what you came there for?" he sounded worried. "What if I get sucked into it so much, I don't even act like myself?" he was asking, rubbing his neck. "Like that second Meijin, winning so badly you would step on your friends without remorse." he sited his knowledge behind some Gunpla figures.

"As for Yuuka? She didn't say, she is part of a team at her school." he said, finishing the bowl of ramen off between his talking. "Has racing ever made you lose sight of fun? Ever made you forget about your friends and just only think winning?" he turned to ask Hideo.

It took about thirty seconds of thoughtful chewing before Hideo could answer those. He first considered the Gunpla battling he was referring to, then to what his racing meant to him. The questions were very valid, even if his response would be somewhat disarming.

"Ah, racing" he smiled, finishing his plate and drinking some water. "I'll say this. When people conceptualize racing, they often think it's various cars goin' up against each other. Not always the case. All you need is a starting point and a finish line for it to be a race. At higher levels, like professional levels, there is some ways that competition goes against having fun. That's mostly because of everything being monetized to the point where you lose sponsorship if you don't perform. Street racing? Well, highway racing I guess, doesn't have that issue. Some people race there without ever even meeting face-to-face. Some people want to be the fastest. Others are chasing something. And still... some are just running from something in their lives" he said, sounding a little somber with memories.

"Driving toward a goal, no matter what it is, is typically how a racer wins, Alex. Even in competition, there is no clear definition of a winner, or of the concept of someone being 'the best'. Races might have rules, or judges. Cars may be unequal and stuff. Blowouts happen, or crashes. All of these things can ruin the legitimacy of a race" said Hideo, listing the things off his fingers. He took out his money and left it for their dishes.

"You can't ever really lose something if you're having fun" he smiled.

"Do you really think that is how it is?" Alex asked. He had finished his food and was drinking a beverage he had ordered. "I don't know if I can agree completely." he sighed. "Some people don't have fun if they don't win." he looked at his glass. "Some people, like the experience of the battle itself." he tapped the counter slowly. "You have those who enjoy playing with others, win or lose." he stated on his list. "Sadly we are not all on the same page. Sure you can't lose if you are having fun." he looked to Hideo. "I guess I just prefer both parties to have fun. That when I battle someone we are on the same page." he stopped and thought. "They have enough drive to give it their all, but they don't get disheartened by defeat. Make sense?" he asked his friend. "Of course this doesn't always happen, but everyone has preferences." he added.

"Well of course. It's just my two-cents" he said, drinking more water before he got up. "Let's go get our Gunplas. There's a few arcades with GP Bases for us to have our battle. You excited? I sure am" he chuckled.

"I gotta run into my apartment to grab it" he said, holding the door open. "Did you wanna met up at a specific place?"

"Nothing wrong with a bit of two cents." Alex smiled and left his payment on the counter. Getting up and moving out with a wave to Hideo, chuckling. "I'm always excited, see you there once you get your stuff." he said as he moved to the store. "Just head down to the store a block from here." he added.

Less than ten minutes later, Hideo had arrived, Gunpla in case and in hand. He felt a sort of excited energy, not so much about the place, but from within. It would be his first actual Gunpla battle using the GM High Boost. Win or lose, the thrill was not lost on him. On the way back to the arcade, he had stopped off to put the action mount on his dashboard. His mind had wandered for a few moments as he remembered the "race" earlier that evening. The simple sentence... the digging question lingered in his mind, growing ever larger.

What's the difference between us?

Hideo had even begun asking himself that. Was the message some sort of error? No, it had to have been meant for him he thought. Once he spotted Alex he walked up, taking his Gunpla out of the case. "Here she is man. GM High Boost, Overtake Custom" he said with pride.

(We can start the battle in your next post Ari. AP or no AP?)

"Looks like you are ready.." Alex said and snickered, his gunpla ready as he motioned to the battle room. "Come on, lets go." he told Hideo.
