In the evenings, the candidates frequently had some free time, before bed. Very much into the routine of candidacy, as she'd been standing for clutches since she'd arrived, Lillende was perfectly poised to take complete advantage of the relaxation time. She valued it highly, as so much of the rest of the day was filled with lessons and chores and exercises. Candidates had to be strong, because dragonriding was a physically demanding job.. she knew that, logically, but that didn't mean she enjoyed all the work.

Tonight was a lovely evening, too, and so she wanted to spend it outside. She made her way around the weyrbowl at a leisurely pace, just enjoying being outside- her chores today had her in the kitchens, which had been too warm and too stuffy and far too indoors. It really was nice to just walk around, even totally aimlessly.

She was just thinking that perhaps it might also be nice to luxuriate in a bath, if she could find the chance, when something decided to mar her perfect evening. With a self-important squawk, a firelizard she recognized all too well appeared before her, bearing a letter. Instantly, a scowl came on her face, and she snatched the letter from the lizard, looking at the too-official wax seal. From her father, then, even if she hadn't recognized his firelizard. "Go," she said to the flit, "I won't have anything to say to him." it disappeared with an offended noise, and she looked back down at the seal- why in faranth's name did he waste wax like that, sending a letter to his daughter. Just like him.

For several long moments, Lillende paused, and then cracked the seal and drew out the letter, her scowl deepening with every line. It started with, "I understand the gold of Heartland is egg heavy," and got worse from there. The standard annoyances about how she had to act as an envoy for the family, not put on her barbarian affect as she always did, and how she had to impress the gold this time around, because having a weyrwoman in the family would be such a great honor, and being left standing was shameful by comparison. Nothing actually new, but the familiar old annoyances were more then enough to ruin the peace of the evening. She tore up the letter and stashed the remnants in her pocket-- no sense littering the weyrbowl with her father's drivel.

She resumed her walk, but now there was a scowl firmly in place, and her steps were rather heavy and sullen.

"Ah, evenings are beautiful." Ariya exclaimed to no one in particular as she entered the weyrbowl. It was a lovely evening and she was glad she'd finished all her chores so that she could have some free time. The evening was too nice to be spent indoors and the teen was tired of being cooped up inside. So she'd decided to go outside until it was dark.

She was dressed simply in a creme tunic and brown trousers with thin sandals on her feet. Her hair was braided in a loose plait that ran down to about the middle of her back. It seemed she wasn't the only one with that idea. She'd noticed the other girl who received a letter via firelizard. She watched as the girl started scowling shortly after opening and reading the letter.

Must be something annoying. she thought absently. A familiar and grumpy sounding 'meow' had her glancing down to see her black and white feline Princess trotting toward her. The prissy feline's tail was held high and proudly as she rubbed affectionately against the teen's leg.

"Hey, there you are, Princess." she said bending down to give the feline an affectionate rub. The feline gave a disgruntled meow as she was picked up by her human but the dainty feline started purring happily so Ariya knew she was forgiven at least for now.

"I was beginning to think you'd finally run off for good." the teen teased her pet and the feline huffed. Suddenly the feline spotted the girl who'd been scowling over a letter. Princess wiggled out of her owner's arms and started toward the girl. Ariya frowned wondering what had gotten into her feline. With a sigh she started after said feline who was trotting swiftly toward Lillende.

"Princess...Princess you sharding feline! Get back here!" Ariya called out even though she knew it was in vain. Princess didn't listen on the best of days. Said feline had reached Lillende and started following her. This girl smelled interesting and the feline's natural curiosity had gotten the better of her.

"Whatever." Ariya muttered glaring at the cat. She often felt like getting a firelizard because at least it might listen to her unlike a certain feline. She considered catching up and getting her feline but she realized that Princess wasn't doing the girl any harm so she'd leave her for now. Pausing the brunette glanced up at the slowly darkening sky. She loved looking at the stars. Maybe she'd stay out tonight and go stargazing. It seemed like a good idea.

Maybe I will, and maybe I'll see a shooting star. she mused smiling slightly lost in in thought. Yes she was going to go stargazing tonight. She glanced at the young woman that Princess was still following and curiosity crept in. She wondered what the letter had been about. It must have been something to upset her that bad. Though Ariya would like to know she wasn't about to pry. Plus she barely knew the young woman.

Lillende wasn't in the mood to pay much attention to anything but maintaining her scowl, so she didn't really. She didn't notice Ariya awhile away, and she didn't notice the kitty who wriggled away from the other girl until the feline was directly behind her-- in fact, until the feline had been following her for a few footsteps, and Ariya's voice cut through the air, calling something called Princess. Lillende glanced sharply in Ariya's direction, and, noticing Ariya's attention was focused on her, glanced down. There was a feline at her heels, looking at her curiously.

Lill took a few steps forward, and the cat followed. Raising an eyebrow, she glanced up at Ariya- but the girl's attention now shifted away from her, to the sky- perhaps figuring that the kitten was doing no harm. Lillende fixed Princess with another look of confusion, before trying to continue her pouty pacing. She had been getting a good angsty rhythm going on.

The kitty faithfully followed on her heels, and Lillende found herself smiling despite herself. Cats were adorable. They had a way of making you stop scowling. She knelt down and offered a hand to the feline. "Why are you following me, huh, sweet thing?" she asked; a human in this instance might've gotten snapped at, but a cat always received the best part of Lillende's attention.

After a few moments of kitty-greet-time, she glanced up and looked in the direction of Ariya. The girl was staring at the sky, as if the stars were very interesting. She sighed, feeling slightly guilty for disturbing the other girl's peace, and called out, "Hey, is this your feline?"

Princess gave a sweet meow to Lillende as the girl cooed at her. Yes she was cute wasn't she? Princess loved being spoiled by all the silly humans. The feline sniffed at Lillende's hand then bumped her head against the offered hand. She was evidently not afraid to demand attention even from a complete stranger.

Hey is this your feline?

Ariya glanced over at the girl who was currently giving Princess some attention blinking slightly. She'd gotten lost in thought so the words took a moment longer to register than normal. No she was not slow she'd just gotten distracted. What she was a harper it ran with the territory. She smiled at Lillende and nodded.

"Yes she is. I hope she's not being a bother. She can be a pain sometimes." Ariya answered as she went over. She extended a hand to Lillende a friendly smile still on her face. "I'm Ariya but I don't believe we've met." she introduced herself. She was tempted to ask about the letter but she held her tongue on that matter. Bringing it up would be a death sentence and a one way ticket to getting her arse kicked if she knew one.

Kittens had a way of soothing the most vile temper-- at least, in Lillende's mind. She couldn't resist felines, and so she almost positively melted when Princess bumped her head against Lil's hand, seeking attention. She would be happy to give it! She scratched the feline in that sparsely-haired area right in front of the ears, and then stroked down her back. Ah, felines.

The kitten's owner was friendly as well, and while Lillende may've accidentally snapped at Ariya moments ago, she was now in quite the mood to receive the company. She smiled up at her fellow candidate, shaking her head. "No trouble at all!" she said, enthusiastically, gripping the offered hand and giving it a shake. She stayed kneeling, however, so as to better pet the cat. "I actually really love felines, and she couldn't've chosen a better time to say hello." She wasn't going to bore a stranger with the details of her annoyance at her family by explaining it, but the fact was there.

"I'm Lillende, a candidate. I take it you're a candidate too?"
