Guten Tag!

I'm Rachel. Unfortunately, I don't remember what I've worn to any of the meetings, so I can't provide an easy way of identifying myself, so... yeah.

I've done a bit of writing in the past, but I really consider what I've done to have been more of for leisure than something that other people should actually read, but I may share some of it one of these days. However, I've also found that writing and having a general understanding of story structure really helps with one of my other hobbies, literary translation. I work mostly with fantasy and horror books in German (hence my opening) and translate them into English. I'm currently working on a series of 15 and 1/2 books about vampires, but it revolves around actual historical events, and (as I've been informed) eventually includes Norse gods, so I'm excited to see how that ties together.

I've actually never been a member of a forum before, so if I actually manage to get this posted in a location where people can see it, I will see that as a great accomplishment. I look forward to (hopefully) figuring all of this out and getting to work with all of you!

Wilcommen! I think that's how you spell it... I don't speak German.

Consider this an accomplishment. You have successfully posted on your first forum! They can be difficult to navigate at first, and the codes are a pain as well, but once you get the hang of it there isn't really a comparable experience. The best advice I can give you? Don't be a lurker. Jump in and post, because half the time when you think you have nothing to say, it's really just you being shy. Trust me, I've been on like 15 forums, all of them communities with hundreds of users, and this is the first one I've consistently posted in. Consequently, it's been the best experience out of all of them even after just a few weeks.

A fifteen (and a half) book series? And you're translating it as a hobby? Now that's commitment. Kudos. I don't normally read vampire novels (it's not because of Twilight, I swear!), but I don't have anything against them either.

Fantasy is my jam as well, so I'm excited to find another person sharing similar interests! Can't wait to see your work/ what you have to contribute!

Welcome Rachel! I hope I can soon read some of your work or translations here!

I'm also a big fan of fantasy and horror, especially the two combined. What other German novels or series have you worked on before?

Also, when you upload an avatar, make it some sort of dragon. That seems to be the general trend here :P

I actually started out translating Indiana Jones books, so kind of a departure from the genres I work in now. One of my favorite series that of worked with is Nemesis, which is a series of horror books that take place in an old boarding school with ties to human experiments conducted during WWII. Besides that, the author who I primarily translate (Wolfgang Hohlbein) has written quite a few books that are an adaptation of Norse mythology. One of these days, I hope to actually finish The Asgard Saga, which is a different take on the god Thor. I've also done, among other things, a short story collection and a few graphic novels, which are super fun to translate.
