Hi everyone,
I'm James, and I'm not much of a writer. I generally find myself with lots of starting ideas, creating characters, and then never coming back to them and fleshing them out. I have trouble getting more than a page or two into a story, and that's something I'd like to work on. I do read quite a bit, largely fantasy, sci-fi, and combinations thereof. Uh... I don't really know what else I should put here, but that's about it for now.

P.S. I get recorded as "that one guy that showed up that one time" when officers for the 2015-2016 year were elected.

Ah, it's great to see our That One Guy That Showed Up That One Time on the forums! Feel free to look around and get involved in the forum games or roleplays, if you're interested. We have a couple of pieces up from some of our other members, and we'd love to see anything you have written if you'd like to post it. Don't worry if you don't have anything yet -- writing is a constant process, and the hope I have with the club is that it'll inspire people who don't write much to give it a try. ^.^

Why, hello there friend! Fancy seeing you here!

I think the first thing I realized once I really started writing is that sometimes you just need to get your hands dirty. If you're getting some ideas starting out but don't know where to take them, I find that turning my critical brain off and just letting my imagination run free helps me to come up with stuff. Often you may not use much, or any, of what you write in those sessions, but it will inspire you to revise/ write something better!

This is the point of exercises like NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Evan's done it and she tells me that you just have to keep writing, regardless of what you think, or how much you want to go back and edit. The best way to get better at writing is to keep writing!

Hey hey, James! Glad you're presence has been recorded here! The other forum users give great advice, huh? I make it a point to read all the text they store on the board.

I used to make a lot of characters and then leave them in limbo too...But I owe it to them to give them meaning, so no more characters, just more backgrounds and story! Soon, I'll detach my mind entirely from the real world, pulling my characters' stories and custom worlds from the depths of a far off galaxy that no human mind can fathom and then I will truly be the "original".

Make sure to take breaks because sitting for long periods is bad, otherwise we wouldn't have legs, I think.

(Oops, I lied, I'm making a character for the forum's first RP. Eee.)
