Hi, I'm Taylor. Sadly, I only showed up to one HBD meeting last year. So some of might not remember me. I planned to go to more meetings but then finals hit and I spiraled into an abyss of organic synthesis and quantum physics. I don't know whether I'd qualify as a young writer or not. I've written about 5 short stories and am currently fleshing out the aspects of a novel I plan to write over the next 3 years. I love scifi and horror, and I've taken most of my inspiration from writers like C.S. Lewis, Anne Rice and Stephen King. I don't know much about fantasy but I'm delving into it this summer with The name of the Wind. I guess I'd say my biggest problem with writing is writing. I am a perfectionist. I obsesses over every word and keep a tab open on Thesaurus.com. I'm not satisfied until I think it sounds like poetry, but that means it takes me forever to finish something I end up neglecting more important aspects like plot and character development. Haven't done forums in a few years. Guess I'll see how this goes. |

Welcome to the forums, Taylor! I'd say you definitely qualify as a writer! There's no point at which you go from being a non-writer to a writer -- if it's something that interests you, then you can count yourself a writer. Getting your ideas on paper is often the most difficult step, but it's very rewarding when you finish your first manuscript. Hopefully we'll have some ideas floating around that will inspire you, but also feel free to ask for a second opinion or some insight from our other members. We currently have some topics on characters (here, here, and here), as well as a few forum games that might be worth checking out. If you have anything you want to share, there's a short stories section where you can show off your pieces or get some feedback from the other group members. School can eat up a lot of your time, so it's okay if you aren't able to come to meetings. That's what the forum is here for. I look forward to reading some of your work.

Hello and welcome Taylor! Good to see you posting here! Guys, she's being modest. She really is. I've read three of her stories and they are really good. As in, better than I imagined a student writer could produce. I don't consider anything I write to be at her level. Thanks for joining up, Taylor, and I hope you enjoy your stay! Wow, thanks Ammar. Believe it or not, your praises mean a lot. I struggle constantly with whether writing is something I should even be pursuing. Despite talent, I lack patience and am easily discouraged. I suppose I'll check out the forum topics/games or whatever. |

Oh wow! Well I'll take your words to heart then, Ammar! Glad to have you here, Taylor, and continue to push yourself! As long as you make that first step and start a process, you're doing good in my book! I'm also looking forward to delving into your works! |
