Z Chronicles Part 1
The Beginning

Z, a young knight in the kingdom of Farulen, was wandering the fields outside of Castle Argule. He had just become a knight that very morning. He recalled the memory of receiving his sword and shield, and when he was knighted. The memory replayed itself over and over in his head. He was completely amazed at the craftsmanship in his blade. A knight in black armor and a tattered red cape walked over to him.

“Z, what are you doing? Aren’t you supposed to be at the lecture hall?” asked Vincent, his best friend. Vincent had become a knight 2 years prior, and was somewhat of his mentor. He had known him since he was 5, and Vincent was like a brother to him.

“Hmm? Lecture Hall? I already went there.” Z said, a lazy tone in his voice. Everyone at the castle knew he was of the greatest swordsman in the kingdom, the king himself had said so. He was tired from his fight earlier. He recalled it in his mind…

Z was standing in the middle of the arena, an amateur knight on the other side. He wore a white set of robes, the other knight wearing a set of red robes. This signified he was a low level knight. Z stood, with sword and shield in hand, ready for combat. “Oh boy…. This should be fun…” The opposing knight charged, ready for battle. Z took a defensive stance, raising his shield to block, and twisting his wrist, so that his sword was perpendicular to his arm. The other knight swung, and hit his shield. Z kneeled down, and spun, hitting the opposing knight with a devastating tornado roundhouse kick to the legs. The knight toppled, and quickly rolled backwards. Z leaped high into the air, feinting a heavy swing at the knight head, and swung at his shoulder, and brought his leg back, ready to kick out. His opponent blocked the sword strike, and Z went into action. He flicked his sword behind his shield, and pulled back on it, pulling himself over the knight’s back, and slammed his heels into the knight’s back, making him topple over. The knight’s sword went flying, and Z caught it mid air. The other knight recovered, and tackled Z, sending the other knight’s sword flying. It landed, sinking into the earth about 10 feet away. The other made a dash for it, while Z rolled over, stood up, and crouched. He advanced slowly, and finally, tackled the other knight, hitting him with a solid elbow blow to his temple, and the knight went down hard. He hit the ground, unconscious. Z stood up, and slowly walked towards the lecture hall, where he was knighted, and given his armor…

Z realized he had fallen asleep on the ground. Vincent had long since left, and Z saw the sun setting behind the Drigan Mountains. He ran towards the castle, and entered his new quarters.

As a knight, he no longer lived at the Battleschool. He had his own quarters in the castle. It wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t anywhere as bad as rock hard beds in the Battleschool quarters. He laid down and slept, wanting to savor his newfound title, until the next day, when he would have to start training other would be knights. He slowly closed his eyes and slept.

Z woke up early the next day, and went over to Battleschool. He found the doors still locked. He took out his key, and opened the door. He walked inside, and he heard a voice behind him. He looked around, but saw no one, until they moved. A man, clothed in a black cloak, walked towards him. His voice was thin and raspy, but full of wisdom.

“Hello Z. You seem to have done well for yourself in this place…. Regardless of the fact that we dropped you here so you would die. You have passed our trials, you will live for now. You must leave his castle, and head to the highest mountain in the Drigan chain. Mount Dragonus. There you will find answers, Z.”

“Who are you? I’ve never met you!” Z quickly replied, drawing his sword.

The man waved his hand, and Z’s sword was pulled from his grasp, and sank into the wooden walls of the Battleschool. “Put that foolish weapons away. I am one of the 7 Ancient Sages. We dictate the lives of mortals. You were supposed to die 7 years ago, but fate saved you. Your destiny awaits you on Mount Dragonus….” The man began to fade away, and Z pulled out his sword, and left.

Later that day….

“I’ve gathered everything I need. Now, I need to get going.” Z sat outside the castle, getting ready to leave. He has his sword, shield, armor, a steed, and provisions for the trip. He also packed a tent and medical supplies for the journey. He set off towards Mount Dragonus, the highest, most treacherous, and most legend targeted mountain in the kingdom.

As Z climbed the mountain, the seasons were changing. It was spring when he departed, but by the time he arrived at Mount Dragonus, it was nearly summer. He stood up, and let the horse ride back. He no longer needed it. He began the long climb up the mountain.

After a day of climbing, he found a small cave in the side of the mountain. He began to sleep. He awoke, with a bear staring him in the face, but it was sleeping. He must have rolled over while sleeping. His face was inches from the bear’s furry muzzle. He slowly backed away, hoping the bear wouldn’t wake up. Unfortunately, it did. The bear woke with a start, and stared at him attempting to leave. It stood up, and let loose a mighty roar.

“GRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAARR!!!!!!!”

“Oh crap. Why me…”

Z unsheathed his blade, and raised his shield. Unfortunately, in brute strength, the bear reigned supreme. It knocked him back, and his shield skidded over the edge of the cliff. The bear's teeth were bared, and only inches from his face. The top of his head felt only open air below it. Z couldn’t kill the bear, it wouldn’t be right. He kicked out with all his might, and the bear flew back into the cave. Z quickly climbed up the rocks, higher and higher, until the cave was just a speck.
“Phew! That was a close one….. I gotta check where I sleep first!” Z continued climbing, reaching the mountain after several hard days of climbing. The first day he reached the top, he was amazed. He saw a kingdom at the top. The mountain sharply decreased in slope, and buildings were scattered everywhere. The ring of clouds that always surrounded it were solid, he could walk over them. There was only one man standing there, in a suit of crimson armor, and a green cape. It was tattered, and he wore a sword at his belt. The man looked familiar, but Z wasn’t sure why.

“Hello there Z. Are you ready to begin?” the man asked.

“Begin what? And how do you…” Z began to ask, until he realized why the man looked so familiar. He looked just like him.

“I am your grandfather Z. You have come here to join the Dragon Knights. It is your destiny. Come, we shall begin your training immediately…”
