Is new fiancé Jack the father or ex flame Roman? “She’s freaking out,” says Jodi Gordon, who plays the expectant mother. “ It should be a hapy, exciting time, but she’s just come out of a relationship with Roman, so she’s concerned he baby is his, not Jack’s. It’s such a messy situation”. At the Diner opening, Martha tries to act like nothing is wrong, but Rachel figures something is up when she stumbles across her shell-shocked friend sitting outside on her own. “Martha confides in Rachel, who tries to talk her into telling Jack or Roman – or both of them – because she should be open and honest. Normally, Martha is open and honest, but she’s really confused – she doesn’t want to ruin things with Jack”. The doctor advises Martha that a new type of test – an amniocentesis – would reveal the paternity of the baby, but the procedure is not without complications. “The problem is that the test can harm the baby”, Jodi says. “They have to take a sample, and because the baby is tiny, the test can hurt it.” To make matters more difficult, one of the candidates would also have to be told and agree to participate. “Martha is hopeful the baby is Jack’s and decides not to complicate things by telling him about the pregnancy, “ Paul explains. “She keeps him in the dark out of love – he was hurt by (his late wife) Sam and Martha doesn’t want to jeopardise his new-found happiness.” Jodi adds: “She doesn’t feel she can tell anybody until she decides what she wants to do – especially when everything’s so great with Jack at the moment. They’ve just gotten back together, they’re engaged – she simply doesn’t want to ruin this great run they’re on.” Martha’s also concerned about how Roman would react if the truth come out. While Jack loves kids and was gutted when he lost custody of Sam’s son, Rory, Martha isn’t sure Roman would be so pleased to know he could be about to become a dad again. “A baby would have a massive impact on Roman. He’s a single parent and already has his hands full with Nicole,” Conrad says. “He didn’t get to raise Nicole as a baby so he’s actually very inexperienced.” How long will Martha leave it before she comes clean with the would-be dads?
