Divinity: Original Sin is a top down turn based CRPG that was funded partly by backers on Kickstarter, unlike other kickstarters the game was already being developed and the additional funds were for the sake of expansion.

Original Sin's turn based combat uses an action point system a la Fallout that's based on different attributes that you can level up throughout the game, combat from what I've seen looks rather nice, with lots of challenge and potential tactics. Youtubertards who have played without thinking tactically have been pwned for acting like filthy casuals and that makes me happy. The magic system has a relatively unique feature in that there are lots of interesting ways different elements interact. For example with ice magic you can freeze a motherfucker in his tracks and make him lose a turn or take ap damage, after which you can melt the ice with your fire, damaging him and creating a pool of water, you can then electrocute the water with a shock spell to finish them. Effects like fire can also be put out with water a lot of the environment can be interacted with using the elemental system. There's also advantages to height and backstabs, and other things that add to depth of combat.

The world itself is very open ended with lots of player freedom, you can interact with almost anything, steal, murder, help townsfolk, combine items with the crafting system, wear lots of weird items and customize your PC. Original Sin like the great classic RPGs it's a successor of gives you freedom in executing quest related NPCs, if an NPC is killed the game guarantees that there are other ways to complete quest objectives and get lore information. Aesthetic customization is in the form of hairstyles, armor and the like, doesn't have the depth that I'd like but it's good enough for a top down RPG where your characters are seen from afar.

The biggest draw for me is the co-op system that looks to be superior to other games that have tried something similar, mostly the conversation system. Wherein you can initiate conversation with the other player to discuss a course of action, or even just debate philosophies relevant to the current situation. In the case of the latter the conversation choices you choose will affect the relationship between your characters and their stats, through increasing different traits like: Faith, Greed, Bravery, etc. Whereas when done during a choice you will have to pass a check, of charm, intimidation, or reason(maybe more) to win against your partner, the one who wins the argument will have their choice be applied to the game. It's something I haven't seen done in a game before and I'm pretty excited to try it.

Art style itself is what I'd describe as lighthearted, with some slightly exaggerated proportions, with a brighter/more saturated palette(In comparison to western RPGs at least) and lots of really cutesy animal models. I think it fits the game, since from what I've seen there's a healthy dose of humour in the game and it isn't trying too hard to be grimdark. Looks almost like a less shit version of Fable 3's art style.

Here are some goofy af eurotrash developers talking in stupid accents:

This is an older video, the game itself is currently on steam early access as a beta and set to be released on June 20th.(I haven't watched this because I already know about the game, but I'm sure it expands or reiterates on the shit I've already said.)
And here's a little fatfuck sheep that I really like: Posted Image

I own Divine Divinity and its pretty good (it was playable/enjoyable). I'm actually very interested in this new one with turn based combat. it'll be different but i like the effect the environment can have on your abilities.

I got Divine Divinity with the digital collector's edition,(Includes two copies of Divinity: Original Sin, the Source Hunter DLC pack, plus Beyond Divinity and Divine Divinity. ) doesn't really sound like my cup of tea. Hack and slash ARPG? But I'll probably play it eventually if the lore in this game draws me in. In any case the game is very fun so far. I've got enjoyment from asinine things though, like the sneaking animation or the clutter rearranging system.(You can rearrange any barrels, crates or other objects by drag and dropping them, flings them across the screen, you can also pointless stack them..)

The co-op dialogue system is great, I like the character building so far and definitely dig the combat, it's challenging but well balanced imo. Definitely a game that I'm looking forward to the full release of. And yeah, infinitely more enjoyable on co-op.

I'm getting generally sick of early access on steam but this looks pretty cool from the picture/your writeup. My internet sucks too bad to actually play the video right now. I will do that later, however.

What's wrong with early access? Sort of like a pre-order but with beta access, you get your beta and access to the full game on release without having to fill out shitty beta forms and hope to be accepted. And the devs get more beta testers without having to pay some fags.

In theory yes, but there are a lot of early access games that just never get any less buggy or any more finished. Though, I'll admit there are good early access games/developers.

Generally though, I just don't like it because it tempts me to buy it before it's finished. So then I play it, have my fun with it then lose all interest before the game is ever completed. Which isn't technically their fault, but yeah.

My experience with Early access is limited to content heavy CRPGs with lots of replay value/c&c so that could explain why I can't relate.

They're making a sequel to this game, btw, this game was fucking great for co-op. You could fuck around in so many ways, so many crazy spell combinations, and ways to change the plot and kill your co-op partner.

The new one is gonna have 4 fucking players, which sounds amazing from what I've played of the first one. You guys should get this game so we can all have a big circlejerk, like you would do an in mmo, but without the suck.
I really can't think of a game in the world with better co-op, or at least an RPG, it has the open world and player impact of a single player game designed around giving freedom to co-op players. The only mutliplayer RPGs I've played before this have really been the Fable series and MMOs. Both of which fail horribly in comparison to D:OS, MMOs in the fact that you can't really affect encounters in any way, and Fable in that the co-op partner was just there for show really.

I don't think I'd be going out on too much of a limb by saying that given the sheer amount of things you can do in the game, and the player freedom, this is probably pr. close to playing a vidya game version of a tabletop RPG/

They also added races
Posted Image
Kyle(were he alive) could be the manlet/Dwarf, Ricky can be a noble elf, and DL would obviously be the lizard.
There's also a really disgusting undead race that ATW could play.

You scored high enough in the man thread that you can play the race of man, of course a female man is absolutely an option.
