IBW Dirtsheet: Morris Return?
Topic Started: Sep 11 2016, 08:26 AM (552 Views)
John Morris
In-SPEAR-ational
There's been rumors, with the return of hype circulating IBW at the moment, that the wrestling company has been trying to score back some bigger names, not as wrestlers, but for other roles in legends contracts (as reported from an inside source). On the contacted list were Manny Fresh, Sidster, and MVP Lux just to name a few who told us that they received emails and phonecalls from International Brutal Wrestling staff about a contract. The only one who bit back, strangely enough, was IBW Hall of Famer John Morris. We at IBW Dirtsheets tried our hardest to contact him, but the stubborn Morris refused to say a word to us. That is why it pains us, but we have to note this article as speculation.

First, lets look at what we know:

  • Multiple big-names from the past have been contacted for a return, and the only one who signed a contract was John Morris, who is the least likely man to come back to IBW.

  • Morris has, and still is, wrestling in other companies. While not signed to any contracts, Morris is valued above Wade Barrett and Alberto Del Rio as the "hottest free agent in Indy Wrestling".

  • Aside from having ties to the company in IBW Classic Snickers Ivy, John has stated that he hates IBW and never wishes to return on numerous occasions. Though this could have been on an outburst, as John has been known to on multiple occasions speak out against wrestling companies after disputes, even if it's prematurely.
  • The contract is NOT a wrestler's contract. Currently we don't know the pay amount, but per looking at the most known example of IBW Legend's Contract, Gangkill, we know that John would not be required to wrestle, but CAN be required to promotional work and work segments while IBW is live. We can only assume that, since John has gotten creative control ever since he first resigned his initial six month contract in OBW, Morris will have his own way with what he's doing.

  • Morris has been the only person who's wanted to do an iPay-Per-View, and while IBW executives are still against funding a show for "a strictly online audience", because their viewers are mostly older wrestling fans with their "Attitude Era" vibe. We spoke to an IBW Marketing Analyst (who will not be named as per his wishes) who told us "Morris is really pushing for us to go outside of our comfort zone, which was always something he did. He wants to get audiences that WWE has a stranglehold on, such as the 20's-30's male and female groups. He also boasts that the HBO Network (which IBW shows are currently broadcast on) while it is large will never get as much ratings as free network USA, and thus it'll be hard to beat RAW and Smackdown ratings. And I have to agree that he has good points, that the internet scene is too fresh for big companies to touch on, and WWE lost out big-time on subscriber based action. Despite just about everyone hating to agree, his unique personality and ideas always end up profiting IBW. He's the bastard child we don't want to come back, but need."

  • Back in late 2015, IBW had promoted a wrestling school, with Morris being the head trainer. The hype never came true, but it's something we should be at least looking at.

  • Morris has expressed disinterest in working with many current IBW "big-names", including Vincent Sinclair and James Parker. He's also been quoted in a Bleacher Report article saying "Ever since my experience with Nick Foster, I never want to work with mid-card guys who turn to stars again. They're so desperate to win every argument, every match, every ****ing staring contest that it just becomes a pain in my ass. While TGB only added onto the issues by responding with the same, I remember him being angry about being forced to working with him." Which essentially guarantees that, unless it is of his choosing, Morris will not be in the ring as a wrestler for the foreseeable future.

What We've Heard:

  • Snickers 'spilled the beans' a bit more than she intended to when she said that John was "more excited than she thought he would have been to return". While this isn't any concrete evidence, we assume that means IBW Executives have settled on doing one of Morris' pet projects.
  • When Mike (the Mime) was contacted about a return due to Morris signing a contract, he just said that "anywhere Morris goes, I go". We cannot verify that Mike has a contract, or is even in the talk for one, but we can only assume that Morris' contract will require it assuming John gets his way.

  • Dominic Jackson and John Morris have been rumored to have been caught together at a restaurant. The two have always been long-time friends, so this should mean nothing, BUT Dominic Jackson was also contacted by IBW for a legend's contract. We can't verify anything, but we are hoping to get more information on this.

  • John has been putting over a lot of lesser-known Indy Guys to give them some hype on the internet. In a podcast, he was heard saying "Yeah, I like to let guys who I think are good wrestlers win. I want the bigger companies to start hiring less Nikolai Sinclairs and more Super Krmis. And I guess it can start with me". We don't know if he has any plans to bring in, or push current, technical-focused wrestlers, but it can be assumed as much.

  • This cannot be backed up by any source, but talk of a "Morris Championship" has been discussed for a Mid-Card belt. OBW and IBW both had a problem with replacing and renaming championships too many times, and so we can see how this rumor COULD be true. And when it comes to the Mid-Card, Morris is arguably the best namesake for a belt, due to his success in it. He worked backstage to create three or four different championships, and in the ring he was the inaugural champion for two mid-card titles.

  • IBW higher-ups have been said to have been EXTREMELY cautious before sending Morris the contract, as they always spike ratings when he leaves due to his large fanbase and the manner of his departures (which almost always are due to backstage problems which Morris doesn't want to deal with, or arguments with IBW HQ). However, because they always consistently rise with Morris as a face in the company, they have agreed to sign him and roll the dice.

  • Legends contracts easily lead to backstage jobs or On-Screen management positions. An example would be when Sidster first returned on a legends contract, which ended up turning quickly into a full-time contract, which then ended up turning to a Booking position. This legendary stretch (which all came true because of Sidster's friend, Ice, being quoted as "a ****ing giant pain the ass until we pushed Sid") was known as the Sidster Era, due to everything from his returning Rumble win, down to two championship belts, down to a reign which everyone agreed was far too long, as well one of the most dominant (and poorly done) stables being formed was all because of Sidster. IBW tried recreating that by pushing legends John Evergreen and Slayer as general managers, but quickly found they couldn't recreate the Era of Sidster. Morris, being regarded even HIGHER than Sidster in most wrestling fan's eyes, could have his own era, and it's what some wrestling fans are crossing their fingers for.

In the end, we don't really know what Morris is going to do with his part-time contract. We assume something along the lines of promotional work for big shows, as well as, if he can convince IBW, iPay-Per-Views. Expect to be hearing more on this story as we learn more.
"It's Complicated."

"I wouldn't say that."

"I absolutely would."
