⚔️ The People's Hero ⚔️
Collision 81 is just hours from airing live from the Staples Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The halls are filled to the brim with IBW superstars, make-up artists, curious businessmen, and lucky fans with backstage passes. A quiet and peaceful night sky contradict the chaotic atmosphere within the facility. In a locker room away from all the craziness, Zhoom is lacing up his sleek, black wrestling boots while sitting on a portable chair. The walls around him bang occasionally from who knows what, and thumping is heard from above in most likely another locker room. The noise is irritable, but Zhoom blocks it out with his untamed focus. His focus on his upcoming match, Zhoom vs. Lafron vs. Mat Emeralds, can't be swayed by any means. Zhoom believes he MUST win this in order to stay relevant and restore the winning streak he used to have. Nothing can deteriorate the meaning of this match to him. His mental state is unbreakable and immovable. Of course, he feels slightly nervous, but excitement overtakes him at the thought of seeing the crowd when he enters through the curtains. The thought cleanses him, and he feels peace. But that peace is broken when a slender man enters into the room with a large stack of envelopes. He's wearing a nice fitting white dress shirt with a solid black tie. His tag reads: Steve McCaw. He approaches Zhoom, struggling to keep the stack neat. He puts the stack down on a small table next to Zhoom and breathes a sigh of relief.

Steve McCaw: These are for you, Zhoom. Mail from some of your passionate fans. You should take a look when you get the chance. Someone would love to hear a response from you. By the way, this isn't all of it. More is to come, but I won't overburden you since you have an important match tonight.

Zhoom: Thank you uhhh...... *squints* Steve. I appreciate it. I'll certainly take a look.

Steve McCaw: Don't mention it. Take care. And good luck.

He leaves the locker room, and Zhoom is stranded with a thick pile of fan mail by his side. Messages from the IBW Universe specifically addressed to Zhoom. It warms his heart; it makes him good. Never has Zhoom felt more important than he does at this very moment. He skims through the collection of letters, most from little children with dreams to mature adults with families. He plucks one from the middle and reads the cover: Tyler Halt, Die-Hard Follower. Zhoom chuckles and tears it open from the back using his thumb. He takes the neat letter and lays the empty envelope at his feet. The letter is typed in the Calibri font style, and the length is a paragraph covering half the page. He reads it with pleasure:

Dear Zhoom,

I'll start with that you are my favorite wrestler of all time. I am only 11, but you have inspired me to be brave and be confident in myself. You only do what's right, and you are really good at wrestling. You are really strong too. Did you know that? I wish I could be as strong as you. Anyway, you have taught me to stand up for myself and not get pushed around. I may be small, but I now have the courage to face the bullies at school when they call me names and stuff. I've never bought stuff from the IBW store, but I always seem to buy your shirts because they have special messages on it. I'm sorry you lost against James Parker, but I know you will come back and win that title for sure next time. Because I know you don't give up, that's why you are my favorite. I hope others feel the same way I do, because you make others believe in themselves and get stronger. If you read this, thank you for reading and you will always be my role model. I hope you win every match from now on. I believe.

From, Tyler

Zhoom smiles after reading it. He looks around for some kind of pen, which he finds one in his black duffel bag. He clicks the end and aims to write near the bottom of the page. He puts:

I'm so glad you are standing up for yourself. It will only make you stronger. You are the reason I wrestle, so thank you. Keep believing, dude!

Sincerely, "Your Hero" Zhoom

He places the letter in a separate pile from the stack of unopened ones. Before opening the next one, he takes a moment to examine the posters. On the far wall to the right of his view, there is a medium-sized poster presenting a smirky Danny Hall alongside a jug of 2% milk. On the wall to Zhoom's left, there is a hype poster for the main event of Destiny which includes James Parker, Mizo Nitro, and Nika Kosov. A white question mark sits between Nika and Mizo, representing who might win tonight for the number one contender spot. Directly in front of Zhoom lies a poster showing all of the current IBW champions, including the newly issued IBW Jr. Heavyweight Champion for the weekly episodic show called Battleground. After spending time admiring (some of) the images on the walls, he takes the next letter from the top of the stack. The letter was from an older lady, in her mid-20s, named Altricia Kent. He rips up the envelope and proceeds to read with careful attention:

To Zhoom,

I write you this letter in confidence that you may read it along your travels and hear my inaudible voice. You have done an incredible amount for me, more than you know. To those that take a first glance upon Zhoom, they think of him as only one who favors children and doesn't connect with the older audiences. That is entirely not true! Your charisma and character has shed light on my life, and I will tell you how. I just had a child about a week ago, her name is Samantha. Being a single mother is amazing, but not without its hardships. Night in and night out, I go without sleep and without help. My child cries in the midst of every night, and I must tend to her and put her to bed(I fail most of the time). I felt like I needed to be done and I couldn't take the pain any longer. I couldn't take the pain of exhaustion. But as soon as I watched you fight with the honor and the satiable desire you possess inside and outside of that ring, it truly inspired me to create my own satiable desire to make a life where my baby and I are both happy. And it completely worked! I am happy now, and I have only you to thank. I want you to know that not only do you inspire kids to live out their incredible dreams, you inspire adults to push through life even when times are tough. You really are the best of both worlds, and that is near impossible to find nowadays in the wresting world. IBW must keep you around, for you bring happiness out of everyone. I wish you luck in your future endeavors and thank you again.

So sincerely, Altricia Kent

Zhoom blinks twice before realizing what he just read. Believing he just might have read the greatest compliment in history, he is forced to respond in gratitude. The pen touches the paper, and his mind is filled with utter joy. He writes:

From one adult to another, I couldn't be any more thankful for sending me this message. I'm very delighted to know that your life has made a heavy transformation, and you are now living your life positively and pain-free. I'm so proud that you pushed through life even when it was tough, and I hope you continue to do that. Don't give up! Move forward! Life only has one direction.

From a friend, "Your Hero" Zhoom

Suddenly, the television in the corner of the locker room powers on, and Zhoom is left to observe the large crowd displayed on the screen. The camera on the TV pans across the entire arena, and Andreas Crawford begins to speak to the listeners watching the program.

Andreas Crawford: Thank you for tuning into this week's Friday Night Collision! In just under an hour, get ready to immerse yourself in some of the best high-flying and technically-sound wrestling to date! See IBW superstars like Nika Kosov, Mat Emeralds, Trent Johnson, Zhoom, James Parker, and many more in action.... Tonight!

Joe Hamilton: It's sure to be one hell of a show! Don't miss out, ladies and gentlemen!

Zhoom takes the remote off of the ground and mutes the television, as the program switches to a barrage of commercials. Following that, he puts the remote down and places the second letter in the new stack he organized.

Zhoom: This is more than I could've asked for. These fans mean everything to me, and it shows. I do everything for them, and I don't hesitate to give them their money's worth. Whether it's my body or my soul on the line, tonight is going to be MY night. I have already accepted that Supremacy was not my night, meaning that sooner or later my success is going to start coming back around. But what do I have to give to the fans if I don't win tonight? Certainly no longer my word. It's high time I begin earning my respect back from the boys and girls in the locker room, and begin winning my matches. Tonight I face Lafron and Mat Emeralds, two extraordinary specimens. Though their attitudes differ, my focus will not! I will fight until my last breath, and that HAS to mean something! If I can't win tonight, I will never win the big one. Mat Emeralds has had his time in the spotlight, Lafron has had his time in the spotlight, now it's time for MY time in the spotlight. Granted by the IBW Universe's approval, I will fight and compete to be one of the best around here. This has to be my attitude walking into this match or else, in all seriousness, I'm a goner.

Zhoom looks back to the big pile of letters.

Zhoom: Two down, only forever to go. The wrap-up of my career in a nutshell. My career may be long and treacherous, but I've said it before and I'll say it again. I have only one partner in this journey...... and that's YOU.

He points to the camera with sharp eyes as it fades into complete blackness.
