Employer Bullsh*t!; Don't be conned by what they say

As discussed at the Melbourne Meetings this week it is quite common for an employer to use all kinds of tactics and tell you all kinds of things to try and get you to give up your rights and we are getting the same reports from subbies dealing with ISGM. Don't fall for lines like "everyone is signing", "80% have already signed why haven't you?" "the union has agreed that the contract is ok now", "you won't get the sign on bonus unless you sign now". They might even try on the more aggressive approach, never publically or in writing this is always done one on one lines like "you'll never get work in the industry if you don't sign" plus other approaches that are designed to make you fearful for your job and future.

All of this conduct is Unconscionable and if you have had an approach like this you should document it and include it in your complaint to the ACCC as well as letting us know what was said. If you have been coerced into signing, it is not the end. You can still make your complaint to the ACCC via the web form posted on this forum and you should include details as to why you felt you had to sign. An unfair contract is still an unfair contract whether it is signed or not.

Don't be misled, don't be conned, and don't be bullied into signing a contract you are not happy with. As discussed in the Melbourne meetings we have learned a lot along the way in this dispute about what your rights are. The changes to the Independent Contractors Act set to be fully implemented in November 2016 that will prevent a company like ISGM from ever rolling out such a contract again. Many subbies are staying strong and not signing but even if you have that does not mean it is the end and you just have to cop this contract. Join the forum, stay updated, come to the meetings and take the next steps.
