New trainee & subbie; ISGM work and conditions

Hi all
I am going to start my traineeship with AI Group in Perth at the end of May and then get started with ISGM as a subbie. I am registered sole trader and abn holder and have my own van, a ladder and sparky and basic comms tools. If I get hooked up with techpac for extras how much would I expect to make to pay off start up costs and still have enough to payout other living expenses? Is it cheaper to source things myself or go through what they have to offer? What is the work like and how many hours would i need to do to make a good living? Any other subbies have saving tips or things to look out for? Thanks guys
