I had a request from someone at the University of Western Australia for a low prim/LI modern type classroom chair (Actually they just wanted an animation where someone could raise their hand in a classroom, but I talked them out of their 6 prim modern deco chairs in favor of mine. What? I didn't charge for it!). At any rate, I'm pretty pleased with the result. I was fighting with the idea of working the animation into the chair itself via take controls or something (then when they pressed pg up or something their hand would raise). But I ended up going the hud route. The chair just IM's you instructions and gives you the Raise Hand Hud (pictured lower right) when you sit down. Time will tell if it's more efficient or not. I put the 3 basic animations I gave away in IW in it, and the hud anim just overrides your arm joints when clicked (and stops when clicked again). It's entirely possible they'll hate it too. I like it though so !!Oddly when I was looking at the classroom, I had a total deja vu feeling from my own non-virtual college. I got really sleepy and pulled my hat down to cover eyes.

Just had an urge to write on non-existent desks and start tapping my pencil. Nice work!! (on the chairs...not my urges) |

In all seriousness though, what sorts of things are you teaching? Definitely some kind of themed classroom, indoors or out. |

They'll be reading from the textbook "Sith are from Korriban, Jedi are from Tython".

I like that hand for a HUD thing a whole lot! You have to get it, just works, and no distraction from what you're supposed to be concentrating on. That's very cool. Of course you're concentrating under the hat, what else \o/ I like the checkerboard wood chairs too - perks it up, not that you were sleepy or anything. |

Thanks Johnny, I am not teaching. My role is more like helping out with the class-room settings. Kepler Space Institute is an on-line university and they are now branching out into the virtual world, at Sprite. They like the idea of the Virtual Orbital Space Settlement (VOSS) that we are working on, as part of a virtual space program. Along with research into all matters space, this could prove to be a very interesting collaboration. Looking at their courses for 2012, I see ~ Moon Colonization Energy: Space Based Solar Power Living in Space Governance of Space Settlements The Overview Effect Law of Space Abundance I don't know if they could fit sprite magic in there anywhere. But they do like the creative environment that we are building. Maybe its a lateral thinking thing ~ bounce off the creative to smarten up the intellectual. We may develop some aspects at our location in Nautilus in Second Life and some other aspects at our StarGate pyramid in OSgrid. So there we are, sprites buzzing through the virtual world, cross-fertilzing places here and there. Sprite is our preferred hideout. Chaotic nature ~ to cosmic chaos. What a mix. Throw in a nova. Celest, Stjarna

I'd lean towards as immersive as possible. Charts, pictures, miniature models, big open window looking out on other facilities in space. That's the builder in me though. Most teachers seem to prefer simple. My thoughts are if their attention is going to drift during class, let them get lost in your environment instead of checking their email or facebook. |

That's excellent Johnny, I'll be watching out for sets to stimulate the learning process.

Try the Nasa site if you haven't. They have all sorts of 3d mesh models, displays, and information for educators. Even if you can't use the mesh, you can get ideas at least for displays (plus all the other great stuff). |

Ty Johnny, Any skill that we do not muster today, will be vanquished on the way into excellence tomorrow. We need an Apollo Moon landing craft for the Moon landing exhibition and as a central set in our annual remembering of the Moon landing ~ that we call First Step. We have one at our show in Nautilus, SL, but cannot transfer this into Iz. I'll look through those sites you posted. There may be one lurking there we can work on. Can a mesh be tortured into a sculpty? Stjarna
