Personality: : Charles is pretty much like the father you had or never had. He is good natured, kind hearted, full of mirth and good humor, loving and caring. Each of his students is like a child to him and he would do anything for them. He prefers to speak softly than use a big stick. He is trusting, sometimes to a fault. His complete faith in his dream is a giant weakness. It blinds him to some of the ills of the world, and the fact that sometimes there will be those that will be out to hurt them.
  • Likes: Opera, tea, Classical Music, books, teaching, his students
Dislikes: Bigotry, oppression, modern media, politics
Strengths: Xavier is a born diplomat. Many have said he was born with a golden tongue, able to soothe most feelings and people without ever using his mental powers.
Weakness: Dealing with failure. Charles bottles up feelings over the many failures in his life whether the loss of Moira and Amelia or Magnus betrayal. One day they might come back to haunt him.

Power Name: Telepathy
Power Type: Mental
Power Description: Professor X is a mutant who possesses vast psionic powers, making him arguably the world's most powerful telepath. He can read minds and project his own thoughts into the minds of others within a radius of approximately 250 miles. With extreme effort, he can greatly extend that radius. Professor X can also psionically manipulate the minds of others, for example to make himself seem invisible, and project illusions into them. He can also induce temporary mental and/or physical paralysis, loss of particular memories or even total amnesia. Professor X can project his astral form, the sheath of his life essence, onto abstract dimensions congruent to our own known as astral planes. There, he can use his powers to create ectoplasmic objects. He cannot engage in long-range astral projection on the earthly plane. Within close range, Professor X can manipulate almost any number of minds for such simple feats.

Furthermore, Professor X can project powerful mental bolts of psionic energy enabling him to stun the mind of another being into unconsciousness. These bolts only apply force upon other minds; they do not inflict physical damage. Professor X can also sense the presence of other superhuman mutants within a small radius of himself by perceiving the distinct mental radiations emitted by such beings. In order to detect the presence of mutants beyond this radius, he must amplify his powers. He often does this by using first Cerebro and subsequently Cerebra, devices which are sensitive to that portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that contains mental frequencies

Power weaknesses: However, he can only take full possession of another being's mind one at a time, and he can only do so if he is within that being's physical presence.

History: The life of Charles Xavier has been a long and strange one. Born to Brian and Sharon Xavier he grew up in a family of wealth, never wanting anything. An only child, Charles life was changed when at the age of eleven his father was killed in a lab accident and his mother married his father’s partner Kurt Marko giving Charles a step brother in Cain Marko. A cruel and spiteful boy, Cain bullied his new stepbrother. As punishment, his father secretly beat him - and young Charles felt his sibling's pain firsthand thanks to the emergence of his mutant telepathic powers. Following their mother’s death, a fire in the family home took Kurt’s life, leaving the stepbrothers alone.

By the time he graduated high school, Charles was completely bald as a side effect of his mutant nature. He entered Bard College in New York at age 16 and earned his bachelor's degree in biology within two years. He was then accepted into the graduate-studies program at England's prestigious Oxford University, where he earned degrees in genetics and biophysics. Charles met and fell in love with a young Scotswoman named Moira MacTaggert. It was almost love at first science discussion. Their passionate discussions on the subject of genetic mutation gave way to romance, and they planned to marry. Their only obstacle was Moira's husband, Joe MacTaggert, a former lance corporal in the Royal Marines and a bully, just like Cain. Moira’s efforts to end her marriage were going slower than planned, thus the hold up in her engagement to Xavier. In Joe's eyes, Charles was a good-for-nothing intellectual, so Charles enlisted in the military after completing his studies at Oxford to validate himself in terms his rival would understand.

At the same time Cain had enlisted in the military as well. The brothers served in Iraq together, Charles becoming something of a legend in the area of search and rescue thanks to his mutant abilities. Charles was there when Cain’s dormant mutant gene activated during a stressful attack by insurgents. Caught in a massive explosion Cain was believed dead by his stepbrother and the military. Later, Charles was devastated when Moira broke off their engagement without explanation. He left the Army and began traveling the world. In Cairo, Egypt, he encountered Amahl Farouk, a mutant capable of summoning forth the darkness in the souls of others. This confrontation led to Charles' decision to devote his life to protecting humanity from evil mutants and saving innocent mutants from human oppression.

Charles next traveled to Israel, where he fell in love with Israeli diplomat Gabrielle Haller. He also befriended a fellow drifter named Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, a fellow mutant who would become his greatest enemy: Magneto, self-styled master of magnetism. Whilst Charles optimistically believed that humans and mutants could coexist, the Jewish Magnus foresaw mutants as the new minority to be persecuted and hunted because of their differences. The two parted ways for the time being but kept in contact. Charles resumed graduate work at Columbia University in New York, and after receiving a Ph.D. in anthropology he spent several years in London earning a M.D. in psychiatry. There, Charles renewed his friendship with Moira, who was still married to Joe MacTaggert and was now a renowned geneticist. The two began discussing the idea of founding a school for mutants.

Charles returned to America and resumed his studies of mutation. During this time, Professor John Grey, a friend of Charles' from Bard College, brought his young daughter Jean to Charles for help. Jean had been traumatized when she telepathically experienced the death of a friend. Charles aided in her recovery, and in the ensuing years trained her to use her mental powers. Charles later met with Fred Duncan, an F.B.I. agent investigating the growing number of mutants. Charles told Duncan of his plan to locate young mutants and enroll them in a school using his ancestral mansion home as a base to train them to use their powers for humanity's benefit. Contacting Moira, she became his partner in the endeavor helping to outfit the school and help raise the mutants housed there.

During this time Xavier and Erik reunited in New York, and Charles invited the older man to help him with his school. Erik agreed. Over the years they came to invite others into the mansion including their new compatriot Henry McCoy a young man on the fast track towards high degrees and being one of the world’s smartest. Jean Gray returned, as Xavier brought in young Scott Summers. Warren Worthington III, Ororo Munroe, and Forge soon followed. Scott, Ororo, Warren, Hank, and Jean were slated to be Xavier’s first choices for his ‘X-Men’, called that because they possessed an ‘extra’ ability that normal humans lacked. Five years ago, 2005, the X-Men were formed. Soon after Erik’s true goals were revealed as he hated humans for all they had done to him and could not ‘play’ at Xavier’s dream anymore. During their time building the school Erik had been building his own team, the Brotherhood, in secret. After a falling out that ended up with Xavier impaled upon a metal rod leading to paralysis, Erik fled.

Now Xavier is prepared to make the next big step of the school by opening the doors to mutant youths all over. Faint stirrings on the mental plane show him that Erik is reemerging and preparing his own move.
