Matt “Chronos” Anderson reached down and touched the tip of his sneakers, closing his eyes and letting the burning feel of the stretch fill up his senses. He smiled and straightened, reaching his arms out to the right, twisting his arms back and forth to limber up his back. He was in a pair of black Nike shorts and a sleeveless, black dryfit shirt that clung to his trip upper body. The stereotypical armband on his upper arm held whatever mp3 player of choice.

The mutant looked out over the grounds with an easy, almost cocky smile. Less than six months ago he had been stuck in a desert shithole shack.... a place where he had been tortured and to sit in his own feces as his friends were killed. It hadn't been the army... or the navy.. or the marines that had come for him. They had stood back and watched as it happened. Nobody came from him until she did. A few months of tramping through the middle east, one night in Cairo before he was shipped out of the port. If he had learned anything, it was that if you were a mutant, you had to protect yourself. She had told him to come here and she had been right. Here they helped him learn and control his power.... they had given him a home and a job...this was home now.

A group of kids rushed around him and down the stairs into the grounds. He smiled and brought the ear buds up and pushed them snuggly into his ears. With a grin he hit the 'on' button and brought a pair of shades down from his eyes. Oh yeah, it was a damn good song. His muscles bounced lightly as he came down the stairway and took off on a quick jog across the ground before breaking into stride as it ducked onto a small trail that lead out towards the lake. A couple laps around the lake should be plenty to keep him busy.

He paused and jogged in place for a moment, looking out over the sun that played off the placid service. That same, lopsided smile flashed one more time and he ducked his head, picking up the pace and kicking down the trail that edged the body of water.

Rahne's body moved smoothly as she ran. She'd gotten up early and hit the grounds for some exercise. She wasn't the most social person when she first woke up, and going for a run or swim helped her mind sort of...kick into gear for lack of a better term.

She was dressed in loose-fitting shorts and a tank top...easy to move in, and easy to slip out of while in the process of shifting. Not that she intended to shift right now, but best to be prepared should she need to, or should she change her mind. She might go for a hunt in the woods later...but probably not. She didn't want to chance running across some of the kids while she was in that mindset.

Rahne was tempted to shift for her run. It was always tempting. It was also something she needed to take care with. If she spent too long as a wolf, she could all too easily slip fully into it and forget she'd ever been human. It had been that way since the days she'd been forced to remain in wolf form in order to elude those that wanted to harm her. She didn't know how many days that had been exactly, but she knew it had been at least a week...likely more. Rahne hadn't quite been the same since. Getting outside and doing things helped keep the two sides of her mind balanced.

Coming towards her, she caught sight of someone she hadn't met yet. She was curious rather than aggressive or fearful. Rahne knew no one that was a threat to her or hers would be here. She eyed the man appreciatively as the distance closed, tossing him a wolfish grin as she passed him.

Matt bounced lightly on his feet. Nothing better than a good run to get things straight in your head. The music rang in his ears and he accelerated up the path and turned around the end of the lake. Sweat had really started gathering by about two thirds of the way around the lake and he settled into his stride. His face was nothing but smiling despite the labored breath that was echoing out of his mouth. This was fun.... later in the evening he was going to spend quality time smashing things in the Danger Room. Specifically, he was going to do it when Scott couldn't make any sort of judgments on his tactics, abilities, strategy... or decision to turn down the safety protocols.

As he ducked around a corner and entered a straight away he locked onto a form coming up the path. This had to be the first time that he ran into somebody while out on the lake. Nobody seemed to want to take that particular path. His smile grew slightly wider as the figure took form... shapes.. and curves... the kind of random stranger that he like to run into. As they whispered past each other she take a whole eyeful. He turned slowly, jogging backwards with a wide grin. His head tilted to the side and he was about to call out when a yell of surprise came from his mouth.

His heel caught a root and his arms pinwheeled back as he lost balance. ”Whoa.. Whoa!!” His voice rang out and he fell back, rolling once over his shoulder, tumbling down a short embankment before there was nothing under him. His voice was only cut off a thick splash of water as he hit the surface after falling the ten or so feet off the rock outcropping onto the surface of the lake.

Rahne turned in time to see the man fall over and go rolling. She started after him to see if he'd been injured. She wondered if she'd distracted him that much, and was both amused and chagrined at the thought. Of course...he could just be that clumsy. Some people were like that.

She half trotted and half skidded down the embankment, knowing she wouldn't be able to get to the man before he went over the ledge. She paused there, watching the surface of the lake. How long should she wait? She didn't really want to jump into the water, knowing it would be frigid this late in the season...but she also didn't know if the man could swim or not, or if he'd hit his head on a rock or something. If she waited too long...

"Well...at least it's not frozen over, or cold enough to make hypothermia an immediate issue" Rahne muttered. She backed away from the edge a few steps, then took a running leap, diving gracefully into the water.

Matt cursed in a stream of bubbles into the lake as he went under. It was like jumping into a freezer. It might have been sunny, but the clear, clean water seemed cold enough to just avoid being covered in ice. There was a moment as bubbles streamed upwards from his mouth and he opened his eyes, looking up towards the light that reflected through the surface of the water above him. That was the lingering bit of time where he could pretend he didn't just make himself look like a complete idiot.

The only good news was that he was a good swimming. He drew his arms straight upwards and stroked back down, propelling himself to the surface. Chronos broke with a breath and slicked the hair back down over his head. He was facing the expanse of the lake and treaded water, turning around towards the shore. There was nothing but a cry of surprise as he found the woman he'd just passed flying directly at him. Arms came up and wrapped about her, submerging again.

Instinctively he holds the woman against him and kicks back upwards, breaking the surface again with a smile. His brow raised a the woman in the water with him as he slowly released her.

When she saw the man surface, Rahne was already mid dive. Her curse was cut off when she crashed into him, submerging them both. The water was as cold as she'd feared, and she was thankful that her body temperature tended to run a little warmer than the average person's. It wasn't enough to keep her from being unaffected by the cold, though.

Rahne swam a short distance away from the man when he released her...far enough that she wouldn't bump him while treading water, but close enough to make conversation easy. She grinned at the raised brow. "Seemed like a good day for a swim" she said trying to sound casual...and to keep her teeth from chattering.

Matt smiled and then gave a laugh at the woman's words. He had no idea who she was, but he was more than intrigued. He lifted a brow and watched her with a smile before drifting back and starting the swim towards the beach, ”Gorgeous and a sense of humor.. exactly how have I not met you yet?”[/i] His strokes were long and firm as he drove himself along the edge of the lake to the nearest beach.

He walked from the water, the already tight clothing slapped tight against his skin, ”I'm Matt, “ That smile didn't go away as he lead her back towards the path, ”You don't happen to know where the nearest hot tube is do you?” It was a joke, but he would have been more than happy to see her in a bikini... or in whatever. Maybe he was shameless, but at least he knew what he liked...

Rahne laughed and headed after the man. Her method of swimming was half traditional swimming and half dog paddling, but no less effective. She flicked her gaze over Matt as they emerged from the water...neither one's clothing was leaving much to the imagination now thanks to the dunking.

"I'm Rahne" she said as she pulled her shirt away from her body a little, wringing some of the water out of it and unsticking it from her skin as they walked. Despite that and the admittedly thin sports bra she was wearing, the effects of the cold water were still a bit noticeable. Maybe it was the fairly relaxed lifestyle she'd grown accustomed to, or the animal portion of her mind, but she wasn't bothered in the least by it.

She grinned at the question about the hot tub. "Actually, I do" she replied. "Spent a lot of time here growing up. My foster mother's good friends with the Professor." Rahne indicated for Matt to follow, and led the way towards said hot tub.

Matt had been half joking about the hot tub, but it was clear that she had taken him seriously. More skin was more than welcome and he couldn't tell if she was toying with him, but he was ready to play any game she had in mind. He reached to his waist and gripped it, pulling it partially upwards to expose his lower abdomen before pausing, ”Well Rahne, I've been here a few weeks.. and I've never seen you.. and trust me.. I'd remember...”

With that said he pulled and stretched the shirt up and over his shoulder and head before tossing the drenched material over one muscular shoulder. He shrugged and kept walking with her, ignoring the urge to shiver against the cold air, at least the sun was giving some form of respite to the goosebumps that were slowly rising up against his skin and spreading outwards over his upper body. He could almost feel the warmth rising up from her body as they moved back towards the mansion.

”I take it you're going to change into something a little more appropriate..?” He turned and walked backwards, this time a little more suavely, ”Assuming you're game for a little warming up.”

Rahne watched him take his shirt off, enjoying the view. "I've been away for awhile. Just came back a couple of days ago" she replied, grinning both at the comment and the sight in front of her. "Usually, I work as a private investigator. Taking a bit of a break from it at the moment, though."

"I didn't know changing my clothes was a requirement" she said, smirking slightly in response to the comment about changing. "Besides...what I'm wearing is already wet. Might as well just go as is."

She raised an eyebrow at the 'warming up' comment, wondering what exactly it was he had in mind. It was nearly impossible to tell by looking what she was thinking. "That depends on what method you've got in mind" she replied, her tone not giving away anything more than her expression had.

Chronos blinked at Rahne in mock innocence, giving her a smile and an arched brow. He turned slowly back around, walking with her. He stepped just ahead, ducking and pulling a low branch out of the way, forcing her to brush against him as she passed under it. His brow lifted with a shrug, ”I was just thinking along the lines of a bathing suit.. but as long as you're joining me, you go ahead and where anything you want...”

He turned and lowered his shoulder as the grounds came into view and he turned his face towards his companion, ”As far as warming up... I think the hot tub would do just fine.. unless you have other plans.” He motioned her to lead on because he wasn't sure exactly which hot tub she was referring too.. plus... he didn't quite mind having the ability to take in the view.

”So, private eye.. like Sherlocke Holmes? You must be a good judge of character...what can you tell about me? Any clues?”

"No...no other plans" Rahne replied with a grin.

She smirked a bit when she noticed that she'd have to brush against Matt to get past. Since he wanted to play that game...Rahne deliberately took a little longer than necessary doing it.

When he asked what she could tell about him, it was her turn to walk backwards a bit so she could study him. "Something like that" she said, referring to his comment about Sherlock Holmes. "Well...your physical condition and the way you carry yourself tells me that you were either military or law enforcement, and that little incident back there indicates you still keep to at least some of the routines" she said after a few moments of studying him. "Little things about your expression tell me that you're more serious about things than you let on. Most people wouldn't pick up on that...especially if they're not looking."

She paused a moment, studying him further. "The way you're walking tells me you're used to moving stealthily, so you were probably with a covert ops group at some point."

"What I can't quite figure out though..." she said after another brief pause. "Is what sort of soap it is you're using. I can't figure out if it's Old Spice, Irish Spring, or Axe. Even with my...enhanced...sense of smell, I have a hard time telling the difference. I'm reasonably sure it's one of the three, though."

Oh yeah, Matt was into this girl. He flashed a smile as she used that body to full advantage, brushing against him. That was the perfect time to let a hand drag along her waist and then up her back casually to 'guide' her. His head tipped to the side and he took in a long moment to advantage before allowing her to continue into the grounds. They mounted the steps as they had spoken pleasantly. The banter was just on rhythm and key. Of course, Matt had always been into flirting, but he generally just left it at that. There had been just a few people to actually capture his attention, at it looked like this woman... Rahne... might be just the kind to do that.

He listened to her explanation of his character with thinly veiled amusement, ”I'm that easy to read am I?” He wasn't about to confirm or deny the things that she guessed about him. That would be much too easy on the girl. He had to have a little bit of mystery to keep her interested right?

”If you're going to find out what kind of soap I use.. you're either going to have to get into my bathroom.. or join me in the shower.. got to keep some secrets...” He allowed her to keep leading him to whatever destination she had planned. At the moment he was more than willing to be lead around by the nose.

Rahne glanced at Matt when his hand trailed over her body, her lips twitching slightly in a smile. She didn't step away from it or put a stop to it.

"Only to someone who knows what to look for" Rahne replied with a light laugh. She led the way to one of the outbuildings on the grounds. It matched the mansion in materials and had a similar outer appearance. The windows were large, and the roof had several large skylights in it.

She went up the steps to the door and paused to look back over her shoulder at Matt when he made the comment about the soap. Rahne let her eyes trail over him again, and she grinned. "I just might have to do that one of these days" she said...deliberately not specifying which option she was referring to. She tossed a wink at him and held the door open...standing where he'd have to brush against her to go inside. Rahne arched an eyebrow slightly while her lips twitched a little as she tried not to grin again.

”Are you sure it isn't about knowing what to look for? Maybe it's just how many looks you take?” If that was the case he would know just about anything and everything about her. His head tipped forward as he walked up next to her , again letting his fingers slide along her waist teasingly for a moment before entering the room with her.

Turning to face her with that same grin and puts a palm to the back of his head, bending one arm at the elbow as he did so, ”Well.. I have a small showed, but I'm sure you could squeeze in... sharing is caring right?” He had a simple stall shower attached to his room, but that wouldn't stop him from bring company. Not company like this.

They entered a room that was heavy with steam, a pool and a wooden tub up a few steps in the far corner opposite the entrance. Dominating the room was a large pool with light blue lights illuminating it from one side about a foot under the surface. Without waiting, he stripped off his shoes and his armband, dropping them on a bench near the door. With three long strides he was in a long, smooth dive that cut under the surface of the pool. In even, powerful, underwater strokes he was at the far end.
