February 1st: 5:34 PM Open Tag: New Mutants Structured Freeform Metallic doors slid open, the vast walls and floors of metal that made up the Danger Room coming into sight. High above there was a glass wall protrusion that hung down with visible computers and other systems within. The observation and control dome for the room. Multiple footfalls sounded upon the floor as they followed the man at the lead. Reaching the middle of the room, Scott turned around to study the grouping of students that had been brought to the lower levels for the first time for many of them. There was only around forty students at Xavier's so far, with more being found around the world to add to the list of potential students. Mutants were becoming less scarce over time and eventually there was a chance that the halls of the mansion would be full of hormonally fueled rap music listening belligerent and moody teens running around. Scott did not relish that day. "This is the Danger Room. The most sophisticated training room in existence. On this floor and above there are various gyms and training rooms for just pure low interactive physical training. The Danger Room is not for that. Nor it is a toy. Holographic nodes within the walls and floor and ceiling bring any environment imaginable to life around you. At the same time force fields of various levels create the feelings of simple things like gravity and the ability to walk long distances while at the same time giving solidity to any threats that you may face. From Godzilla to a angry mob, you can fight anything your brain can ever come up with. There are various programs already within the computer that have been programmed by the staff. There are new programs added constantly. Students are not allowed in the Danger Room unless accompanied by a staff member. This is not a playground. Serious consequences will befall any that think this is a place to sneak into and play around. Trust me you don't want to find out what will happen. Questions?" ~OOC Note: Post students reactions to the Danger Room, questions to ask, whatever reactions they would have to the moment. After the first round there will be a fun surprise thrown in for the students, as well as the subsequent rounds. Try to keep up posting as the pace of this thread will move quite quickly, the three day rule will be applied to the thread.~ |

Terry moved with the group of students, once they passed through the steel doors her eyes were up towards the sky…ceiling, something like that. It was… a whole lot of steel, and outwardly, she did not, look forward to exercising in here. Big as it was… she wasn’t certain how it could handle her, or her powers. Force fields? …you could echolocate off of those…right? She liked the punching bag and treadmill of upstairs, she didn’t question what they were, or if they’d work, they were solid, traditional, and predictable. As they were asked if there were any questions Theresa raised her hand waving it above her hand for a moment until she was called upon. “Mister Summers. This is nice and all… but…it’s a giant enclosed room… will that not work against those of us that use sound waves in one form or another?” She wasn’t trying to be difficult, but it did not make sense, illusions, force fields, making an enclosed space, smaller…what if she broke something? Or worse, it came back at her or her team mates. |

Adam had heard rumors of the large metallic room beneath the mansion but he hadn't imagined just how magnificent it would look. The room was big and smelled sterile and metallic, like an operating room almost but with that hint of sweat from a weight room. He liked this room. He couldn't help but look around with a smile in his eyes that just barely managed to stay off of his lips. He was in slight wonder at just how cool this school really was. When Mr. Summers started talking about how advanced of a training room this place was he was ecstatic. Training was one of Adam's strong suits and he had never really worked out his powers really. He knew how to use them and control them and all that jazz but he didn't really know his potential and this place was supposed to help him find it and work that out alongside his mind and his body. It was perfect Then Mr. Summers started talking about how the room worked and its ability to project force field enforced holograms to depict any area or texture and trick the mind into thinking it was moving wondrous distances and the like. It then occurred to him as Terry spoke up that the room wasn't that big or apparently perfect as he thought before. "Yeah. How does this place compensate for our powers, Mr. Summers. I make portals and calculate distances. I can literally see and feel the exact amount of space from here to that wall or the ceiling.Even if you can trick my eyes my sixth sense doesn't feel very fooled at all. Also, what about the more dangerous aspects of our powers? Can this place take that because I don't want to cut a hole in anything by accident. I really don't want to cut a hole in anything because that's really dangerous and gets expensive fast." he said a bit of concern leaking into his voice. The edges of his portals sliced through the world itself like butter and he had ruined more objects that way snatching them through a portal real quick if he forgot them. He had lost three practice swords that way and a really nice suit jacket once not to mention some chemistry notes a year before he didn't want to have to pay for fixing anything he broke around the school that he didn't know anything about, like force field projectors. |

Kat listened to the little speech in silence. She had to admit she was wondering the same things the others were in regards to their powers. She stayed silent and let the others have their say first. "What about fire safety measures?" she asked. Kat wasn't worried about herself. She'd long since learned that she was immune to her own powers...sort of the way some spiders and snakes were immune to their own venom. It was the others she was worried about, if her powers got out of control. The damage she might do to the equipment, and the room itself...but especially to her team mates...that was her concern. She didn't know how yet just how intense she could make her fires, and though she hadn't lost control yet...there was always a first time. "Are things likely to melt if my powers get out of control?" |

Melody had followed Professor Summers down with a bunch of other students and looked around keeping the comment of "this is a big, shiney room" to herself and face palming when someone asked if they could melt the place. "Really?" she muttered to herself, eyes rolling heavenward, asking for strength, "Ah doubt they'd let us some place we could trash...seems kinda counter productive.." she sighed and leaned against the wall, realizing that this was not going to get going anywhere fast. "then again, they might be doin us all a favor..eugenics wasn't that bad of an ideah.." Sliding down the wall she pulled the pen out of her pocket along with the little note pad and started to write, folding her lets and floating just enough to be off the floor and be comfortable. If she had a question she'd ask, but for the time being she was just going to sit there in her plan purple t and jeans and wait for someone to actually think. |

Trent followed the group of students following Rachel's dad. He had yet to meet everyone so there were several strangers to him in the group. He actually only knew Porter out of everyone there. As they piled into the Danger Room he looked around as Professor Summers explained everything about it. It was a technological marvel to say the least. But as the other kids started asking question Trent found himself bored and rolling his eyes. Leaning back to lay down he held himself up in the air and floated around the room. "Are you guys really asking all that? Think about it for a sec, Professor Summer and the other X-Men train in this room as well right? So why or how on Earth could any of us kids do anything to this room that they can't? Besides the way he explained the way these holograms and force fields work it sounds like it will be the same as being in an actual place and that the force fields keep us from doing damage anyway. So if you ask me we just need to focus on teamwork and our own skills and abilities and stop worrying about making a mess. I know our enemies won't care if we do." The fact that he only knew one person in the room and that was barely knowing at that didn't matter to him. He was being serious about what he said even if he didn't act like it. Truth is anyone scared of what they can do just showed that they lacked experience and training. So overall it sounded like Trent was going to be superior to them in that regard. However in terms of abilities the sound and fire girls peeked his interest. He was curious to see if Portal and the others would combine powers and the girl barely floating off the ground over against the wall would require further observation for him to get an opinion over. |

Armando had been following Mr. Summers and the rest of the class to the danger room and he was excited to go to see it for the first time. He had heard so much from others about it from others, which made him die in curiosity. The room was breathe taking as he looked around and listened to Mr. Summers speech of the use and how it worked. He truly hoped to see the computer that could do that and also wondered how it worked because it had quipped his interest. Though as the others started to ask questions if the room could handle their powers he started to wonder what the room ‘could’ handle at maximum. Trent had a good argument yet at the same time a bit flawed in his opinion. “Trent is probably right with this room is able to handle much. But a power which the user has no control over can be very destructive if not to this room then to the others around us. Though myself not included for I can handle quite a lot. Not sure how much.” He added the last part for he was not sure what his limit was. |

How had they gotten roped into this again? Damn the lack of class or necessary course work to get out of this. Neither Jeanne-Marie, nor Aurora were keen on getting the grand tour of someplace, only to be told they couldn't come in and work on their reflexes, like stopping suddenly from top speeds. Tilting her head, Jeanne-Marie blinked and let Aurora out, since she really didn't want to deal with the stupid questions she was hearing. "<My god, people you've all been drinking the Kool-aid haven't you?>" she huffed and folded her arms, once again glad that most of them seemed too American to have actually learned Canadian French. They taught Parisian French in the local high schools, and while they were similar Canadian French was far better. Paris was the armpit of the French speaking world, and anywhere Cajuns congregated was definitely the smelly shoe of the French speaking world. "Professeur Summers, why are we here?" she asked, not caring how rude it sounded. Seriously, the man took them down this big secret room, then told them they couldn't use it without supervision. What fun was that? |

Kate stood beside Mel in the danger room, listening intently to Mr. Summers words. Ever the good student, Kate took any mental notes she could. Next she listened to her fellow students questions. And while Kate was taught that there isn't a stupid question or answer, she couldn't help but feel that some of her fellow students questions were a bit...dumb. If the room could melt, would they be in here? If one of Adam's portals could cut a hole...wherever...would he be here? And did Adam never sound like he was long winded and tooting his own horn? She wondered if that's how she sounded sometimes? Still she wasn't sure if students were asking these questions because they genuinely didn't know or because they were just a tad on the insecure part on their powers. Kate felt it was the latter and for that she felt sympathy for. She wasn't exactly confident with her powers either. She just wasn't very good at them. They weren't dangerous, at least not like the fire girl, but not being good at something bothered Kate. She liked to excel at things. She was good at excelling at things and if she didn't excel right away, she would try and try until she did. But unfortunately she wasn't very good at being a mutant and nothing could handle that. Trent was the first to speak his mind and while she sort of agreed, she wondered if he knew that sounding like a patronizing asshole was something which actually hampered teamwork. "I'm sure Mr. Summers knows what he's doing," she said to Armando with a smile, "The staff wouldn't put us in a dangerous situation...they'd just be us in a room called Danger," she said with a frown before turning back to Mr. Summers, "Couldn't we call it like the Learning Annex? Sort of foreboding isn't it?" She shrugged before turning back to the rest of the student, "Trent's right though. This room is most likely designed to take a beating. I mean Ms. Munroe and Mr. Summers both have powers that can do serious damage and this room looks pretty spotless to me. So considering it could withstand their blasts, it should withstand any of ours and since it could do that, I'm sure it also has ways of protecting us against any out of control powers. No one here is that skilled with their powers and the staff knows that," She was talking a lot again, and practically speechifying but that's okay. She liked doing that. "Think of it as a giant trust exercise. We have to trust the staff, trust each other and trust the room, which sounds weird but it's true. So I think we're all good and more importantly, I'm sure we're safe," She smiled kindly at her fellow students before she turned to Mr. Summers and said in a somewhat hopeful tone, "Right?" |

Jono listened to the discussion quietly, his dark eyes taking in the room around him as the others discussed whether or not the Danger Room would be at risk from their powers. Finally, after long minutes of listening to the various arguments and occasional derisive comments from the others, Jono spoke up. "First off, some of us are more explosive than others. I took out an entire building the day me powers manifested, I could probably take out an city block in one blast if I wanted. So I say those wondering about the limits of this room are justified." He looked around at his fellow New Mutants, daring any of them to challenge his statement before folding his arms over his chest and continuing. "Secondly, we get enough shite from the rest of the world, do we really have to give it to each other too? Give it a rest. I want to hear what Mr. Summers has to say." After shooting a pointed glare at Jeanne-Marie, Mel and Trent, he gave Scott an overly interested expression and cordially gestured for the man to continue. |

Mark was off to the far side of the whole crowd, slowly knocking his head against the wall. It wasn't making any loud noises, but he figured someone would notice. And this was why he hated his own age group for the most part. Half of them were whiney pains in the asses, the other half preteneded to know what the hell they were saying. Granted this wasn't all of them, mind, but there was an overwhelming majoirty that was just "Pity me" or "I'm not stupid". A large hand stopped his head from meeting metal and he looked up at probably the tallest person he's ever met. "Please don't do zhat." he smiled and patted mark's shoulder. "I'll stop when they stop being like the rest of the gen. pop." he told him and got a blank stare. "General population." The tall boy nodded and sighed, these Americans ..a.nd foregners..... |

Matro sighed as he stood in the middle of the group of students. The voices of their opinions filled the room almost causing the young teen to cover his ears. It wasn't so much the arguing of the students that was getting on his nerves, after all so many people stating their opinions all at once was just like walking down the school hallways, but hearing the voices all collided together as they argued was causing him to strain. It didn't take long for him to realize the small banging sound from the other side of the room. Matro moved toward the other two students. "Could always be worse, they could all be agreeing on one idea, with no individuality what so ever." Matro folder his wings over shoulders as he talked, giving a fang filled smile when he was done. |

James was probably being abnormal by not speaking up when someone began mentioning the idea of how sturdy the room was. It didn't matter that most of the questions that were being asked were probably going to be addressed anyway by Mr. Summers in a few minutes because like someone had said it showed that people were thinking and expressing themselves, which is what they needed to be doing. At least, James assumed that was what they were supposed to be doing, but he was thinking about something completely not related to the topic of how well built the room was. "When do we begin training?" The young Native American didn't care if the room couldn't handle what he dished out. If it broke, then it meant that changes would need to be made so that it could handle having a beat-down in it. If the others were afraid of breaking a room that was meant for them to test their powers in, then they should probably think of moving to an abandoned island or region where they wouldn't hurt anyone because that was their only option at this point. |

Dani stood quietly next to Kat. She remained uncharacteristically quiet during the whole discussion, though she did nod and chuckle when the leather-clad kid told everyone to shut up and listen. Dani did have her own questions about how the Danger Room would react to her powers, but she figured it would be better to ask an instructor when there weren't five hundred people standing around to ridicule her thoughts. As the rest of the group quieted down, Dani turned an expectant eye toward Cyclops. "I agree with James, when can we try it out?" |

Scott's hand rose and fingers began to rub at his sore and tired temple. The teens were trying his already limited patience as they went from starting with insightful to then less insightful questions to sniping at one another. Why he had volunteered for such a thing was beyond him, but he was there now. Being a father he should have been able to use that experience at the moment yet his children were just that, children. Not teens. So the ways to deal with them didn't fit. As the teens continued to speak Scott spoke up at last. "Enough. I asked for questions, not for you to descend into anarchy. The Danger Room is equipped to handle any powers it can come across. It has built in safety features to stop your powers from harming yourself or others. We would not bring you into a training facility that could potentially harm you or harm others through it not being equipped for the variety of powers at your disposal." Scott stopped rubbing his head as he sighed slightly. The questions portion had caused pain, making him wary of even bringing up the next part but Xavier needed him too. That man could get him to walk through fire and back. Damn him. "All right. Now that we got that out of the way, as you know the X-Men are here to train you and help you with your powers. As you also know each of us has a codename for in the field and training purposes. It is useful not only to hide our identities should we be out in the field around those that might not like or understand us, but it's also for ease of identification during tense and confusing times. Each of you will now choose a codename that you will be referred to for your time at this school and if you go beyond that. While you are choosing, naturally I will reject certain names as they must be appropriate. Choosing one that represents your power set or something about you are the easiest choices to go for. Now one at a time make your choices." Scott sighed and rubbed his head and waited, this was going to be interesting to say the least. With a pad in hand he prepared for what the students would throw out at him. (OOC Note: Naturally your student can throw out multiple names in their choosing, but they need to end up with the codename you already gave them or they have canon wise. Have fun. Also remember this is a structured free form thread, you don't have to post in the posting order. Just one post per character per round.) |
