Introduction

Svalbard was once a vibrant world not unlike our own, vast oceans separated mighty continents each with its own forests, grasslands, and deserts. All was well until catastrophe struck, no one truly knows what happened during the great cataclysm as much knowledge was lost. Only that the oceans rose consuming all but the Seven Islands, each a refuge for the fallen empires now sustained by technologies thought lost and forgotten by all but the Island of Celestia.

For 500 years, it is this central power that now sustains what remains of the Old World, with its Theotechs maintaining and power this ancient technology in exchange for Food, Water, and Luxuries too numerous to count it is this centralised power that commands the economic and political landscape of these free islands, those who defy them risk annihilation and those incapable of defending their trade treaties risk degradation but all is not lost, as those without turn to the aid of Privateers and Rogue Traders ushering in a new great age of piracy.

Whether drawn to the profession by necessity, promises of grandeur and loot or perhaps to rebel against the central powers you are, although perhaps you do not refer to yourself as such, a pirate.

The Isle of Celestia

Otherwise referred to as Central by many outsiders the Island is mysterious to all and seen by many as the saviours of the old world, and in many ways, they are having created and continue to maintain the technology that now ensures their survival but for all the good that they do there is a underlying fear that should the lights ever go out and the cities fall as will the lives of countless thousands be lost. Few of the political elite are under no illusion of the power this Island holds and many are beholden to its agenda and doctrines for ultimately the people will see those who are unable to secure their supplies whether by trade or armed conflict as a weak leader, ultimately leading to unrest.

Despite its fame and infamy the Isle of Celestia is a mysterious place that few have ever had the pleasure to witness, even the noble houses rarely receive an invitation and when they do it is often only to sign trade agreements. That being said people are free to visit the outer regions of Central City where traders and merchants meet to exchange goods upon the neutral ground, but the city itself is strictly prohibatived and closely guarded by the Seraphim an elite military force that serves as the Theotechs guardians and devoted protectors combined with the Celestia Fleet makes for a heavily defended region.

The Seraphim rigorously enforce the laws in this region also and all disturbances are dealt with extreme prejudice as to avoid disturbing the Theotechs and their enigmatic work. Once every 5 years, the Seraphim will recruit the 'gifted' from the other islands and train them to eventually join their ranks or that of the Navy itself. These children will be given leave to return home but only if and when they have completed their training by which point in time it is unlikely for anyone to wholly recognise them due to heavy indoctrination processes.

The Kingdom as a whole is led by an order known as the Theotechs rarely seen beyond the walls with exception to monitor and referee armed conflicts between islands they are perceived in a similar light as agents of the gods by local populations with many openly worshipping them. Their leader is an enigma and has never been seen in the public eye leading many to believe him a venerable wise man and speaker of the gods if not one himself leading many to simply refer to him or her as The Divine.

Exports:

Pearls - Known as Pearls these spherical stones glow with white light, which many believe to be in some way holy. It is these pearls that power the machinery that sustains the islands, their airships, and numerous other technologies. Without the pearls, an Island will lose power and inadvertently crash back into the depths of the ocean or be left vulnerable with its Navy marooned and without power.

Political Landscape:

The island contains a singular small but heavily defended city that is home to the Theotechs and their servants, the Theotechs operate an Absolute Theocratic Monarchy led by an individual known as the Divine. Despite this, the civilisation as a whole is very advanced by comparison to the surrounding islands and is the only known source of the Pearls which they use to control the surrounding islands both politically and economically, understanding this their production is solely focused around this single export drawing all other resources from the other islands and offering protection through their powerful navy.

Should disputes arise the Theotechs permit a Kingdom to enter war with another with their permission, and will ultimately referee the conflict to ensure no one kingdom completely annihilates another. The victor in these circumstances takes all and the loser is more often than not put into a extremely fragile state thus such conflicts are rare if chaotic.
