Hello and welcome to Instant Role Play! This is a role playing website aimed at authors and welcomes all. What is role playing? There are a few different definitions. Our version of role play goes something like this: You make a character; you find a plot that your character can join; after being accepted into the plot, you write what your character does like you would in a book except you are writing that book with many other authors. We have other guides for more information on the basics of role playing. Instant Role Play is in its infancy. We are testing the best ways to allow online role play at the speed of a conversation. Most chat programs have a small maximum character limit, but forums like this one doesn't auto-refresh the page. Another trouble with forums is that they are bulky, but we might be able to modify the code to make a more streamline theme. Zetaboards allows different themes to be used for specific categories. Off topic sections will remain in the current format. Role play sections will become easier to read and reply. Each role play plot has its own section. Inside the plots are: plot rundown and rules, sign ups, characters, and the role play itself or links to the role play. Also included but not required: character journals/bios, plot-related out of character (ooc) discussion, plot-related external resources (such as mythology and names), plot-related extracurricular activities (such as art), and "chapter" updates. Chapters should be decided by the participants of the role play. Once a good break comes along, one or more or all participants should write up a summary of what happened since the last update. It could be a simple outline or a great retelling. The one thing it should NOT be is a direct copy, whether or not some of it has been changed. Another option is to allow people reading but not participating to be the authors of the chapters. This allows others to join in the action without having to be a constant part. It is encouraged all role plays allow nonparticipants to author chapters. As for the functionality of the website, we are open to any and all suggestions, be they positive or negative. Most topics are open to replies, so you can give us feedback right where it applies. If a topic is not open or your suggestion doesn't pertain to any specific topic, you may post in the Improvements section. While negative comments are allowed, we reserve the right to hide anything that doesn't fit with our values. If the comment is posted by a register user or the comment comes with contact information, we will discuss the reason for hiding your comment(s). That's the other thing we don't do: delete stuff. Whenever possible, we are pack rats. We believe anything written, fiction or nonfiction, should be saved. In multiple locations. With an acolyte or more who can recover the writing. With many authors working together to create a story, there will be conflicts. One such conflict that some may not think of at first is ownership. The author who creates the plot gets to decide who joins. They can set rules within reason. They can also create as much of an outline as they'd like for the direction of the role play. However, as soon as someone else join the role play, they are no longer the sole owner of the story. Any profit to be made from the story, complete or incomplete, must be discussed with all participants. If participants of a role play would like to look into publishing, they can add a pinned topic for open discussion. Participants of the role play must not disallow other participants into the discussion, even if one says they do not care what happens with the story. All financial decisions regarding the role play and its story and characters must be unanimous. As long as all who are involved agree or signs away their ownership, and it does not contain copyrighted material, the role play may be monetized in any way. Instant Role Plays will not at any time ask for compensation or any other form of profit unless otherwise agreed upon, but there are a lot of ways we can help for free. All you have to do is ask. |
