JPL Open Source Rover Project The JPL Open Source Rover is an open source, build it yourself, scaled down version of the 6 wheel rover design that JPL uses to explore the surface of Mars. The Open Source Rover is designed almost entirely out of consumer off the shelf (COTS) parts. This project is intended to be a teaching and learning experience for those who want to get involved in mechanical engineering, software, electronics, or robotics. ![]() Get Started Building! This forum serves as a discussion platform for builders and tinkerers who want to build and discuss the Open Source Rover and related projects. (NOTE: This forum is run by members of the community as individuals and has NO official relationship to JPL, Caltech, or NASA). In addition to this forum, there are two other websites tied to the open source rover project. One is a landing site which holds general information and an overview of the rover and how it works: https://opensourcerover.jpl.nasa.gov The other is the repository that holds all the code and documentation that will allow you to actually build the rover. That site is located at https://www.github.com/nasa-jpl/open-source-rover To get started, visit the landing page for the project at https://opensourcerover.jpl.nasa.gov and then download the plans from the repository at https://www.github.com/nasa-jpl/open-source-rover. Happy building!! If you have any questions or run into problems during your build, please search for answers and/or reach out on this forum. |
