Mallory's emotional cavalry

MalAdroit
[Cut into the Gallant living room. It's a quiet evening and we find Mallory Adroit sitting around on her living room couch. The TV is on and she appears to be watching a very old episode of Sailor Moon. One that's in the middle of the climactic, final battle as Tuxedo Mask has just thrown one of his rose darts at the monster's feet.]

Tuxedo Mask: Now, Sailor Moon! Finish her!

Sailor Moon: MOON!! TIARA!! ACTION!!

[One of the show's trademark dramatic graphic scenes occurs to show Sailor Moon preparing to throw her tiara and kill the monster. The tiara wobbles wildly across the screen and strikes the monster who is turned into a pile of dust that gradually blows away. But at that moment, TV goes off as Mallory lets out a baleful moan of frustration and throws the TV remote down on the floor at the her feet.]

Mallory: Why can't it be that easy? WHY?!!

[Mallory's lament apparently louder than she realizes as quickly her husband Ian emerges from the bedroom and rushes into the living room area. Sliding in beside her on the couch.]

Ian: So I guess the cartoons aren't helping.

Mallory: No. They are actually making it worse.

[Mallory turns toward Ian and buries her face in his chest. Ian instinctively wrapping his arms around the woman he loves.]

Ian: Why? What's the problem?

Mallory: Why can't life be that easy, Ian? Why couldn't you show up in the aisle at the Pitt Arena in tuxedo and cape and prevent Apathy from stabbing me by throwing a rose at her feet like a lawn dart? Why can't I be able to throw a tiara at Kijo and be done with her? While she is reduced to a pile of ash that blows away. She certainly has the name for it.

Ian: I know, babe. Reality can be a pretty ugly place sometimes.

[Mallory sighs deep into his shirt.]

Mallory: Kijo. The name doesn't even sound human. And the worst part is I don't even get what her damage is. What drives her to do all these awful things? Attacking my friends because they are connected to me. Bleeding Molly like some sorority girl in a horror movie. Darn near killing Mel in the the middle of the ring. For WHAT?!!

Ian: Could it be as simple as she hates what you stand for, Mal?

Mallory: What do you mean?

Ian: Think about who you are. You're the woman who reached out to save a broken friend in Melinda Rhodes from herself even after she brutalized you publicly toward the end of ACE. You're the woman who tried and ultimately failed to heal Scarlett McCain's emotional scars. You're kind. And selfless. You have a beautiful heart. Lots of friends. A tight knit family full of love. An adorable little baby. A terrific husband. . .

[Mallory forces a chuckle through her aching lips.]

Ian: And look at her. A lone wolf. Huddled up alone in in a ruined church. So full of anger and torment that all she knows how to do is pass it along. All because she's incapable of knowing what it is to have a scintilla of what you do or understanding why you should be able to. Your loving nature is apparently so foreign to her she can't accept that someone like you exists. So she must feel she needs to tear you down to her level. It's all I can figure.

Mallory: So that excuses her for assaulting non-competitors? For bringing her opponents to the brink of their very mortality? For pretending she'd kidnapped our dear little Carli and taunting me with the ruse? I THINK NOT!!

Ian: No, it doesn't. You said you didn't even understand Kijo. I was hoping I could help with that. But no matter. You know something far more important.

Mallory: What's that?

Ian: You know how to disarm Kijo. You know how to get her off balance. And most of all, you know how to defeat her. You did it at the debut show and there's no doubt in my mind you can do it again.

Mallory: But. . .

Ian: Tut tut. But nothing. Who's known you longer? That ashen instigator or the man whose name you took?

[And the light clicks on.]

Mallory: You of course. You knew me when the dream of wrestling was just that. A dream.

Ian: And have I ever steered you wrong?

Mallory: No. You haven't. You're always straight with me. One of the many things I love about you.

Ian: Then trust me on this one. You're going to go into Blood & Steel Chairs, you're going to stare Kijo down and you're going to conquer that demon just like you have all the others in your life. You may not be able to scream out a battle cry, throw a tiara and end things easily. But you, my love, are a survivor and you will find your own way.

[Mallory throws her arms back around her husband and give him a much happier sounding kiss.]

Mallory: Thanks, Honey. Have I told you what a blessing it is to have you in my corner?

Ian: Only every day. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

[Mallory playfully musses his hair and gets up from the couch.]

Mallory: That's my Ian. If you need me, I'll be in the nursery. I feel like watching our little angel sleep for a little bit.

Ian: Sounds good. And Mallory one more thing you can be assured of.

Mallory: What?

Ian: If your mother decides to so much as say "Boo" about this meeting with Kijo, I'll say a whole lot more than that to her. I know how important solving this Kijo problem is to you. And truth be told, after that fake kidnapping stunt, I want rid of her too. There's professional gamesmanship and then there's what Kijo did. That woman can't be put in her place fast enough for my taste. Thankfully I know the woman who can do it. But right now she needs her girl time. Go. Gogogo.

[Mallory heads toward the hallway but just before she disappears from camera view, she turns back in the door facing.]

Mallory: Is it any wonder I love you?

Ian: I should hope not.

[Mallory laughs and heads for the nursery as we fade to black.]
