[We fade in to an old dingy bathroom. The floor is covered in dust and loose tiles save for a few fresh footprints here and there. Paint is chipping from the walls, while whole sections are broken revealing segments of piping behind it. A florescent light swings from the ceiling, casting shadows this way and that. We then pan over to the cracked mirror, catching a glimpse of the dark figure reflected within it.] KIJO: Everywhere I turn, I see broken souls. Bits and pieces of who they once were, and who they need to be. Mallory Adroit is broken. When once there was a strong willed woman with a family and friends that loved her, now there ia fractured shell, hollow. But at last, the Mist has taken her. And now it is time for the true Mallory Adroit to take form. [We turn again, away from the mirror and toward the pale face and dark eyes of the one and only Kijo.] KIJO: It will not be easy, and you will experience every second of the change as it happens. The Mist is in your blood now, Mallory. My guess is it has already spread to your brain, assaulting you with visions of the future that lies in wait for you. I have torn you down, shattered your false image. But now those pieces will come together again, forming what you were always intended to be. [Kijo leans against the wall, folding her arms across her chest.] KIJO: But you are not the only one who is broken, Mallory. There is another, though her soul has yet to be torn apart at my hand. [Kijo nods her head once.] KIJO: Erica Duke... Erica Vargas... Erica Toughill... [A wry smile spreads across her pale lips.] KIJO: Whatever you call yourself, you too are broken, Erica. Once a great warrior, now merely a great shell like Mallory. The only difference is, as broken as you are, there is still much more to be done. [Letting her arms drop down to her sides, Kijo takes a quick step toward the lens - too quick for our liking.] KIJO: But I can help you. Yes! I WILL HELP YOU, ERICA! [That wicked smile returns.] KIJO: Just like I've helped Mallory. People call me wicked, evil, a witch, a demoness, but you see Erica... [She extends her hands out, palms up.] KIJO: I may be all of those things and so much more; but I also offer you hope. I offer you direction. You can peck away at your typewriter all day, or hang upside down from the rafter, or perhaps even that underrated warrior from years pasts; or you could be something... _Greater!_ You could become special, just as Mallory Adroit is becoming special. [Another unnaturally quick step puts her even closer to the lens.] KIJO: YOU WILL BE EXTRAORDINARY! [And just as quickly, she backs off.] KIJO: And unlike Mallory, your quest will be much shorter; because as I said, you're already broken. All it takes is for me to... [She pulls a blade from her plague robe and begins to jab it at the broken mirror before her.] KIJO: Chip and chip and chip away at all that remains; SHATTERING Erica Duke! SHATTERING Erica Vargas! Even SHATTERING the one and only Erica Toughill! [Another nod of her head.] KIJO: Unlike Mallory, you don't have any friends and family, do you Erica? There's nobody relying on you for backup, or turning to you for emotional reprieve. You are alone; but not for long, Erica. [Kijo now walks out of the bathroom into the hallway of the old abandoned Larimer School once again.] KIJO: Soon, you will be with US! [She stretches her arms out to both sides demonstratively as if insinuating that she is surrounded by followers. However, curiously, the hallway is quiet, empty.] KIJO: On the 16th of November, Erica, all that you are now will be swept away. The violence you will endure is essential. Your blood will spill that night, Erica. It will trek down your flesh, pooling on the mat beneath you. You've seen what I've done to Melinda Rhodes, to Molly O'Hatherine... [Her arms drop back down to her sides again.] KIJO: Now witness firt-hand your own destruction, YOUR OWN REBIRTH! [That wicked smile spreads across her face one last time.] KIJO: And join your new sister Mallory Adroit at my side! [Out.] |
