Tinkerbell has an idea for a Junkers Congress. You can read up on it here.

An quasi-military oligarchy (Guard) "administrated" Junker "government."

This is so contrary to the Junker way of life, I can't believe anyone had the gall to propose it.

Need a name that stinks. I'll go with Tin Pot Tink, me thinks!

So who runs the junker stations? Is it just anarchy? I'm just curious because everyone says junkers are individuals but yet they have stations and a home system. I have never seen a group of humans work together without some form of leadership.

Also if you read his proposal this is not a heavy handed "government" its more of an agreement to form a group that watches each others backs. Thats what junkers are supposed to do anyway.

It is anarchy. Hell, there's a whole wide world out there with orgs of folk not run heirarchically. Look up co-ops, and there's tons run precicely as you might imagine a "co-op" would be. Who ran your "club house" you and your friends built/squatted when you were a kid? Who needed a leader?

Why is a "leader" needed? Junkers aren't some megalithic state-backed corporation, or massive private company. The Junkers aren't a military, and they're about as apolitical a people as you're going to find in FL, more so than Zoners. The Junkers are a wide-spread, tiny gang of nomadic, less-crotchety Fred Sanfords. :P

I reckon the vanilla "depots" were constructed muchly from scrap by Junkers forming a loosely organized cooperative, and with Junker comings and goings, I'm sure that co-op grows and shrinks quite a bit. "Depots" are the smallest bases in the game, and are probably used primarily as warehouses, as the name suggests, and with minimal ammenities. Maybe a community s***ter and a cot for layovers. B) Think of Junker depots as community run flea markets, maybe. There's generally agreed upon rules, very few of them, and a first come, first served rule to set up a lot on the depot to peddle your goods to the various folk what pass through. Regardless, they aren't really "bases," so much as stop-overs for various criminals, freelancers, and what have you.

All in all, I say market anarchism ftw. It's what makes the Junkers what they be!

And I'm sure Tink's words sound good, but it don't ever work out the way it's said it will, and in a game, people tend to be more inclined to take certain liberties. We'll see how many new rules, restrictions, and what not, get put on the books 'cuz of folks what cause problems for Tink and the crew.

As for the home system and all that rot: In vanilla, no faction had "home systems." I don't know what Igiss did that, to be honest, but I don't see that it really changes anything.

Well my RP revolves around the home system of Puerto Rico and how the Culebra family is trying to make more of themselves than just scrap collectors. Everyone keeps saying that junkers should be individuals but thats not how I choose to RP it. Different strokes as they say.

Oh and "leader" is not the right term. Tink is not the leader he will just call the congress to session. Everyone will have an equal vote. I a see it like some hunter gatherers. They would disband and go their separate ways when hunting was good then come together during the winter to share resources. Each clan would have an elder on the council to talk and vote on things. Then after the winter passed they would break up and go their separate ways again.

So I see it more like a group of clans that come together for mutual benefit. But no binding laws to restrict each other or tell someone else how to play. If it becomes that I would quit in a second.

The road to hell, as is said.. Bah. Hmmh. I might just have to exercise a little initiative of my own, and start a REAL Junker player faction. Hard core Junker style. <_<

I am not sure what that means but it came off as slightly insulting.

Thats that police state they call "Liberty" for you. How ironic. Really I was pirating in a Barghest with a Greyhound and a dreadnought showed up and killed us. The LNS IronFist. Again, how ironic. (well ironic isn't the best word)

Only slightly? Drat, must be losing my touch. I'd suggest, if you want to create something, and it sounds as if you've got ambition, you should attempt to form a small, private voluntary syndicate.

What your small part of the family wants is one thing, is perfectly fine, and well within proper Junker roleplay. Government is not.

Mark my word, incidents are going to occur, words will be exchanged, dfolk will be hunted, trade disrupted, etc. These incidents will lead to new proposals, and as all "governments" do, real world or otherwise, it will vote expand its authority exponentially, slippery slope fallacy be damned. Or, it'll die.

No matter how benign its intentions, it always happens this way, lest it collapses.

Do this. Don't do that. Stay back in line. Where's tax receipt? Fill out form. Let's see license. Submit six copies. Exit only. No left turn. No right turn. Queue up and pay fine. Take back and get stamped. Drop dead— but first get permit.
