![]() As there has been a number of people making claims about either having tried out for the spot as bassist for Kaine vacated by Dan Mailer this year or having being offered the placed by ourselves I figured I would post something to clarify the situation. Firstly despite what some people may have claimed, we didn’t audition them for the bass player position in Kaine, neither at Pioneer Studios in Colchester or via video link. We would absolutely never audition anyone via video link and the suggestion we ever would to us is pretty laughable. We didn’t audition anyone. So if we didn’t actually audition anyone how did Stephen Ellis end up in the band? We knew well in advance that Dan was possibly leaving us, so as any well prepared band we had already looked ahead for cover just in case we couldn’t find anyone to join the line-up immediately after Dan had left the band. Dan would obviously honour of all the dates he had committed to with Kaine and there was never any question of him not doing any shows. However once Dan had informed has he definitely wanted to leave we decided it would be best for him and ultimately ourselves that we get at least a new live line-up in place in order to continue full time as a band and allow Dan to move on with what he wanted to do next. Chris plays in a band called Drop Dead Fred along with Stephen so he was already familiar with his playing and asked him if he would cover for us in the event of Dan’s leaving. Once we knew Dan definitely wanted to leave we booked a rehearsal in with Stephen, which was a huge success. Not only had Stephen learned the set in a short amount of time I was also extremely impressed with his bass playing and how he jelled with the band both on a musical and personal level. We obviously knew Stephen before he joined the band, and him having played with Chris was a huge advantage so after the first rehearsal with Stephen I asked him if he would like to join the band full time. He agreed and the rest is history. Unlike some bands we have a policy of not “stealing” musicians from other groups for our own, however due to the fact Chris was already in Drop Dead Fred, Stephen joining us wouldn’t impact on their band or prospects. So nobody tried out or auditioned for Kaine. We rehearsed with Stephen Ellis and asked him to join the band on the strength of that performance. Five gigs in it’s really proven to have been a great situation for the band. The new line-up has already penned its first song together “Voice in Hell” and we played it live for the first time Thursday this week. The song will be in our live set from this point onwards as we move towards starting the third Kaine album. Edited by RageSadler, Sep 11 2015, 06:04 PM.
