I have recently contacted well over 150 music venues and promoters who put on live Metal and Rock bands throughout the U.K. I will be contacting even more as and when I find them to see just how many I can physically contact. We are looking for dates nationwide throughout 2016. Why am I doing this? Well it looks like it’s back to the drawing board for Kaine. Having been signed several times and toured twice in 2014 we have not been able to replicate that success this year. Aside from playing Wildfire Festival we haven’t played any other really “big” shows this year and aside from what we do locally our turnouts at shows have been poor in some cases. That’s not to say we haven’t had good gigs because we have and some have been fantastic but there’s definitely been a considerable slide backwards. It’s unlikely we will get the opportunity to tour again as we don’t have a big enough pull on our own to justify the costs of touring and the costs of buying onto other bands tours makes it simply impossible. We also hoped playing Wildfire this year would enable us to be seen as a band able to deliver a decent performance for a small or medium sized festival. Sadly this hasn’t been the case with currently no offers to play any small or medium festivals in 2016 on the table. It’s a shame but we can’t force these people to accept us on the billing. At the request of our fans I had also contacted festivals they said they wanted to see us on directly about playing in 2016 but it’s unlikely I will do this again as it hasn’t bore any fruit. Generally if they want you to play they will ask the band directly anyway. I had also contacted a string of various labels, promotions and management groups to see if they would be interested in working with Kaine and the answer from all of them was simply “No”. I am a realist and I know that a major label isn’t going to take a look at a band that’s closing in on its 7th birthday, fronted by a 30 year old playing NWOBHM revival to small numbers in pubs. That’s not to say there isn’t a market for what we do, or that we aren’t good enough because we are. A smart label could make a fortune with us if they invested the time and money into it but that’s just not happening. At the end of the day Kaine is all about hard work and while we will never likely be a major force in Metal or to be out touring with known bands we will be fighting our corner in the underground. If money was the only motivation for doing this we would have given up after our first album. I am not about to give up, I will just start over again and try and find as many people on the road as we can. So yeah… we are having to essentially try and rebuild ourselves from the ground up again through playing as many small venues and clubs that will have us, anywhere in the country and most likely for little or no money. That’s absolutely fine though as we have been here before and that’s how it is if you can’t draw the numbers out. That’s not us being hard on ourselves, its honesty. We can’t afford to compete with the publicity budgets of signed bands and thus nobody has heard of us. We don’t have that financial backing like they do so we rely entirely on word of mouth and what limited exposure social media will give us and more importantly being a good live band. It's just us doing this as we haven't got a wealthy backer, rich parents or even someone acting as a manager. We all work jobs to pay to continue to be in this band. It's just us. As for the managerial stuff I do all the grunt work for the band, it's success and failure lies entirely on my shoulders. If I don't put the work it we simply don't get booked. The other big issue with starting again at small pub/club level is we will need to spend money on new gear. Our current heads/cabs are far too big and loud for pubs. We have already received threats from the London Borough of Islington due to our backline being too loud! So while “beginning again” so to speak we will have to invest in more suitable gear. We will keep our current backline for when bigger shows do crop up so that’s not a problem. It’s just a shame we are having to dig deep to pay for a set of new amps after rightly investing in our current backline on the basis we were doing bigger shows at the time. So that’s it really, thanks for reading and the continued support as we really do appreciate it. I hope what I have written has been honest, informative and insightful.
