Hunter will probably erect a massive screen on the side of the Vic and play it on Christmas Day. |

"You seem to think you can threaten me. Well, I've got news for you. You're wrong." "You've got no rights when it comes to me." "I'm not running scared every time you don't get your own way." Where is she? All this because he shouted at her. Yet in 2018, she desperately tries to get him to want her in the bedroom, after he caused the death of her husband, cheated on her, got her hospitalised, forged her signature to steal her business and disappeared, what, three times (amongst other things of course). How could anyone write one of the cornerstone female characters of soaps as such a sidelined drip? It's something I've felt for a long time, and something I'll post about in a greater length soon, but I really think EastEnders is in desperate need of some female voices. The women we see now feel distinctly like a male construction. "Strong" is shouting and hating each other, with men either vilified or at the centre of their lives. There needs to be some change. Somewhere along the line the writers stopped writing Sharon as a character and started writing her as a punchline. She, like Robbie Jackson and the village idiot Billy Mitchell, is a character to be laughed and a character we are not supposed to be taking seriously. The woman who used to be so wise to the Mitchell family routine is now either turning a blind eye or actively engaging in the Mitchell mantra. It's a shame to see the daughter of two iconic characters and an icon in her own right reduced to nothing more than another mouthpiece for the King Phil shtick. Letitia Dean is better than anything she's been given since she returned in 2012. Her return itself was reflective of the six years have followed - a woman with nothing, desperate and begging Phil for help. She has not progressed at all since then. |

DTC had his moments with her, she was great as 'Ma Mitchell' for a while and when she was saying that the square was her manor and not Phil's. But I think the decision to keep her with Phil was a bad one, especially when she found out he was behind the attack in the Albert that stripped her entirely of her confidence and self esteem. The Sharon of old would have left his ass after that and never looked back. |
