Hidden Gems

I thought I'd make a thread to celebrate the "hidden gems" within each episode. A "hidden gem" to me is something - a little scene, a look, an exchange of dialogue - that's brilliance is underrated in the pomp and spectacle of the rest of the episode. Depending on how many of these "gems" appear, I may post more than one per episode!

What a lovely idea to appreciate the smaller moments of the episodes! I loved both of the scenes you mentioned!

For me the most underrated scene of the past week has been Shakil talking about how important a mixed race Royal was to him.

That scene saw Diane display some absolutely phenomenal acting. I actually got goosebumps.

Linda catching Shirley watching the wedding was one of my favourites from this week - the way they played it caught me off guard because I was expecting Shirley to do her shouty routine and quickly change the channel but what we got was actually quite nice.

Shirley's material was this week was the most I've enjoyed her character all year, Linda Henry is so much better when she's doing the quieter and more understated moments that I question why she doesn't get them more often.

When they get Shirley right, she is fantastic. She's got a wealth of history, she's played by a (usually) fantastic actress and she's got a real place at the heart of the show.

(Flashforward to this time next week where it becomes obvious we've jinxed her and she shouts louder than ever before!)

Shirley was one of the week's highlights mainly because for the first time in ages, she didn't shout!
