I can't say I like the sound of this.

Yeah, me either.

They should be able to let the material stand on its own without having to show us real life families and their stories. There is a time and a place for that, and it shouldn't be in the middle of an EastEnders episode.

I can't say that I really understand the rationale or thinking behind this; knife crime is undeniably a huge issue that the show has rightfully tackled. We should be seeing these stories through the eyes of the Kazemis, reflecting the real world through the eyes of the fictional and showing the impact of such an issue long term on Carmel, Kush and Keegan. Shakil's funeral should in, itself, be powerful enough to spread the message that the show is trying to convey.

The real life documentary style stories, although I'm sure they'll be heartbreaking, will only detract from the show's original material and the content of Shakil's funeral. They could (and should) have aired this as a one-off documentary after EastEnders, using clips from the stabbing storyline. It shouldn't be included in an EastEnders episode in itself.

I’ll probably watch the episode on catch up and just skip the real life segments.

Not a good idea.

I'm just so baffled by it.

What's the point? As Jamie Fowler has said, the story should be able to do the talking without needing these real life examples.

This is just one of those things you know John York will be interviewed about in five years and admit it was a mistake.

I'm not sure how I feel about this tbh. While I commend them for doing something different, I'm not sure having real life segments in the middle of a soap episode is the best way to do that. Like Angie's Den said above, a one-off documentary after the episode airs on BBC3 would be a better way of doing it.

Yeah I’m not sure how to feel about it either. Depends how they do it I suppose but I don’t get how it will work.

I just feel like we're going to be seeing Carmel deliver a touching eulogy but then we get immediately taken out of it as it cuts to a real life family in their front room.
