Gillian Wright is being used brilliantly in this stint. Jean's interactions with Hayley are a particular highlight.

I'm so glad that Charlie still maintains some sort of presence in the Slater household even though he's passed. It was such a shortsighted decision and these references to him are incredibly natural. Compare that to how Peggy, Abi and Steven have all been erased from the canvas.

I'm glad they've shown Stacey and Martin discussing and debating their issue on this, rather than the more obvious route of it coming between them again. |

Stacey once again proves that even the worst character assassinations can be fixed with good writing. But then again, it's Stacey. We're waiting, Sharon. Edited by PurpleRain, Jun 22 2018, 08:39 PM.

I think what I'm enjoying most about Stuart's role in this show is that his scenes all have a strong undercurrent of tension and danger, there's a real unpredictability about his character and this story which makes it an unpredictably exciting watch.

I've actually really enjoyed this little vignette about Charlie's cab. A really nice way of showing the bond between the Slater women in a realistic sense. Better with Kat, natch, but I guess if there keeping it we'll get some scenes of her with the cab. |

Unpopular opinion: I don't care for any of the Stuart scenes or this story. |

EastEnders doesn't do subtlety anymore so I took two things from the brief Jay scene: 1) His days at Coker & Sons could be numbered 2) He's going to end up getting dragged into this Stuart story. |

I think short-term vignettes and character studies are definitely where the show excels at the moment, which is why I can forgive the March to mid-May content for its lack of substantial storylines as it was all so damn real and watchable. It's good to have these now accompanied by proper stories and events. |

Ever since the cab appeared on the Square, it's given me a real pang of nostalgia! It's so natural and brings back many of my fondest memories of the Slater unit. I can't help but compare it to Michelle's never ending mentions of Pauline, all of which felt shoehorned and unnatural. I've definitely felt as though the writing has been a lot tighter lately, in all aspects of the show. |
