The Bob/Laurel/Doug/Brenda story strand has been diabolical and worse than Molfie's relationship.

Emmerdale makes misfires just as often as EastEnders does, especially in recent months.

The brilliant stories lately have focused on the same characters who've received frequent exposure for most of Macleod's era. Debbie, Joe, Ross, Charity, Cain and Moira are all excellent.

The rest of the cast range from the good (Bernice and Faith), the poorly written (Laurel and Bob), the bad (Dan and Daz) and the ugly (Aaron :X ).
Aaron and Robert's 'romance' has been a thorn in the side of the show ever since they started throwing wrenches at each other. This isn't an endgame couple. Their affair was good for what it was. It was destructive, it was dramatic and it should have ended three years ago.

I have to admit I don't really mind Aaron that much these days. He is barely there so there isn't anything to mind.

I haven't really minded the Bob/Laurel/Brenda/Doug stuff that much, although as usual with Emmerdale in recent years the buildup and motivations and points of view have not really been there. Overall I think it's all pretty much in character for those involved and has allowed for some good family drama and campy trash that doesn't involve people dangling off cliffs or being shot.

The problem with the Molfie relationship for me was that it was just one more step in the decimation of Little Mo's character, on top of the second rape, on top of a needless pregnancy. The character felt well and truly snuffed out. For me none of that is there with this plot. It's the most I've enjoyed Brenda in many years, and it's pretty much Bob being Bob. Laurel is the one who has suffered the most from it, but she's been much worse in the past (like when she wanted people to leave Ashley for dead on the streets and actually got angry when they wouldn't), so I can't treat it as a horror of the ages.

Both Emmerdale and Eastenders have a lot of problems, and I imagine they always will. I generally try not to compare them because it just leads to arguments about which is worse. I could name four or five stories on Emmerdale at present I don't bother with and I could name four or five stories on Eastenders I don't bother with (or I could if Eastenders actually had storylines beyond vague outlines stalled out as long as possible...). It's just how soaps now are, sadly.
