Would Stacey and Martin work, as landlord and landlady? They would be a curveball, I think. A normal couple making a go of things like Jack and Vera did over on Corrie back when Corrie was actually worth watching. I’d take them over the Carters or a return to the Mitchell family!
That would be like having Arthur and Pauline in the Vic. Their power, just as with Jack and Vera, stems in their grounded nature. Their kitchen sink, dirt-under-their-fingernails feel. The owner of the Vic has to hold a sense of gravitas that stems beyond domesticity. Jack and Vera didn't work because they didn't have that slight glamour that pushes the Landlords/Ladies into that different spotlight.

I do see what you are saying there. Perhaps my desperation to see a break from the status quo is clouding my judgement on who would work and who wouldn’t somewhat! I think I enjoy them so much, because of their normality and mundanity. I don’t think that would translate across well to a pub setting, but part of me wants me to see them give it a go like Jack and Vera did.

Just to add, once there is a fabulous and formidable woman as the Landlady, I will fully expect a regular Drag Night for them to play against.

It would be nice to see Alfie back behind the bar. Shane worked very well as the landlord the first time around. He was let down by the writers when he came back. I think he would work well with Kat or on his own.

I think that Alfie and Kat, are pretty much done as a couple now. Their stories feel very played out and I think it would be better to see Kat standing on her own two legs from now, like Elsie Tanner but kitted out in leopard print.
